Great video! You guys have a beautiful property! I really respect how you pick out defects by hand. That attention to detail really matters.

Thank you!! Certainly gives us an appreciation too for the quality of harvests from different places. Our Brazil tastes great and is a best seller but my gosh do we have to spend ages removing defects. The Honduras though barely find a single one!

Fantastic amount of information in 10 minutes. Lots of videos on roasting, but not to many on how much time is spent on tasks after roasting. Trying to understand why 4 hours of roasting results in a full time job for your wife. By my math, you roasting (finished product) about 12kg an hour or about 48kg for the 4 hours. That is filling from 48 (all wholesale) to 192 bags (all in retail). Trying to understand how many hours of downstream effort are needed per kg of roasted coffee. How is the split between filling existing orders to trying to find new customers. Once again thanks for posting and wishing you continued success.

I would say at the time of filming this it was 'nearly' full time 😊 but we never properly quantified it. As of now I would say I'm more like 7.5-10kg per hour once you average it out (can't run at 100% efficiency continuously). I think we were spending a disproportionate amount of time 'figuring' stuff out for example Tash self taught canva to do all the labels and then was designing them (we now have a creative agency) and then self aught quick books to process all the invoices and expenses (we now have an accountant). Then we hand delivered orders within 6 miles of us (about 90% of our orders). To be honest I should make a video about it all and the practical steps outside of the roasting. I'm SO behind on videos at the minute well overdue getting some more out there! Learned A LOT since this one was published.

Thank you! This one took ages as there was so much footage to sort through 😅

Love this! Super informative, nice shots, pleasant transitions! Only thing I could suggest is background music very faintly. You have such a nice setup in the countryside. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you for the watch and the comment much appreciated!! Id love to put a little bit of music on actually, YT tells me I'm not allowed because of the copyright though so I have to find some nice 'free' music somewhere 🤔

@@ForgeValleyRoasters I think KZbin has an audio library you can have a look through, but obviously not throughout all the video as the birdsong and natural nature and roasting sounds are wonderful. What mic do you use?
@ForgeValleyRoasters5 ай бұрын
@@thenocturnecafe a mix, when I'm walking about and recording I use a Hollyland Lark M2 (plugs into my phone) and then for this one where I narrated from the comfort of my desk after the fact I was using a Blue Yeti mic!

How long do you leave the roasted coffee in the white tubs before bagging it up? Love the videos btw
@ForgeValleyRoasters4 күн бұрын
Heya it varies, usually only a day or so as we will fulfill orders and then package up the wholesale customer orders (including our own coffee shop). Either way we'll have the tubs clear by the time I come back to roast again which is every couple of days.

Mate, how the heck do you have such a beautiful property? Awesome place to work :D
@ForgeValleyRoasters4 ай бұрын
🙌 thank you! We got a bit lucky tbh as we stumbled across the place and it hadn't been on the market in 2 generations! Basically put every single penny we had into it, we love it but my gosh a lot to get done! 🥵
@ I do! CR600 LP fuel. It was my second roaster. I’m working with a Mill Ciity 1.5kg now. Use the CR600 for sampling.

How many days per week are you roasting?
@ForgeValleyRoasters5 ай бұрын
Generally get everything done on 1 day a week at the moment, sometimes we need to roast on other days if an unexpected wholesale order comes in. It did take us a while though to get everyone onto a similar delivery day and estimate our e-commerce orders accurately too!!

@@ForgeValleyRoasters Is your roaster new or used? it's around a 15k machine?
@ForgeValleyRoasters5 ай бұрын
We purchased our roaster lightly used (under 1 year old) from another business. I think we got it for around 13/14k if I recall
