Thank you for sharing your day!! I have been a sub for a few years myself now, and I have definitely learned a few tricks that work for me! One thing I cannot STAND is the disrespect that you mentioned, and that's why my preference is younger grades from Kindergarten - grade 4....I have done all grades, and the older ones are nice when you have a good class (because they are so independent and just do independent work), however, if you have a bad class, it's HELL. I enjoy the younger grades because they usually respect you more, you are more engaged and involved with them, and they are usually happy to see you! Also, I used to worry about doing everything correctly when I first started (I even carried around a huge ass binder full of extra plans, different activities, etc. in case I needed it, which I rarely did, so I stopped) - but remember that you are in there for only a day, so don't sweat too much about doing everything perfectly or getting through everything :)

I think some male teachers sometimes leave the most unorganized plans, bless em 😅. Always have an interesting fun backup filler assignment in your pocket.

I’ve been thinking of becoming a substitute teacher but idk how I’d be able to handle the attitude and disrespect from student
@AlyssaRodriguez7 ай бұрын
I think in the beginning it’s definitely hard but if you decide to go to the same schools over and over again, the students become familiar with you and the attitude and disrespect starts to go away for sure! But you can always do high school, they are definitely a lot more chill then middle school kids lol

I recently started subbing, and you have been the biggest help. I have had a hard time with classroom management as a sub- can you offer some tips? I want to be firm, but also I realize that they don't know me! Also, I literally look like a student LOL. Thanks!

Omg you’re so sweet! Im glad my videos have been helping, that’s honestly a morale booster for sure! & yesss I can totally do a video on that! It’s something I struggled with in the beginning but I feel like I’m starting to get a good handle on it. There’s definitely a fine line but I can totally share what’s worked best for me!😊 & I’m sure you’re doing great! Not many people can do this job so kudos to you for sticking with it!🙌🏽🙌🏽

Hey there! I am literally in your exact situation right now. I just started subbing at a middle/high school (in a small rural town) and these kids just do not like me. A part of that I think is because I’m new and new to their town. I’m also 23 but look like I’m 12 LOL. Have you gotten the hang of things a few months later?

@@r1nkaku Hi! I learned A LOT since that comment. Greet students at the door. Let them know they have a sub and let them know what materials they need/ the agenda as they walk in. This is a good way to connect.

Model assignment expectations and be thorough with explaining instructions. They need to know what is expected of them and that is up to you to communicate.

They might want to work together. Do not let them move seats- everrr. But working together is awesome! Walk around the room. Be eager to help them

Hello👋🏾, When a teacher is out 1 day they should leave an assignment reviewing something they have already been taught. If it’s multiple days I can understand wanting the sub to go over a lesson so the students don’t get behind. I’m a retired educator and hardly ever took off but when I did I left work the students already knew and the work was reinforcing what they already knew. Always make it easy on the sub. I normally only like to sub upper elementary(3-5) because they are independent workers for the most part but still at the age where they don’t get to be disrespectful. The middle schoolers are trying kids since they no longer have to do certain things since leaving elementary.

I am a substitute teacher for many years. I am like you...I don't play. I only sub at one middle schools. Which is great because all the students know that I will write names down and these teachers follow through. I love middle school because students are beginning to think for themselves. I hate middle school because students are beginning to think for themselves. What is it about 4th period. Always one of my worst period.

I am considering applying to be a sub at our local school district while I finish my IT degree, but I have had no clue what to expect. This was very helpful while doing my research. Thank you! :)

I'm also a sub, and your day sounded a whole lot like mine on Friday, except I was teaching 4th grade. Kids hitting each other, disrespect toward me, and I HAD 30 STUDENTS. Oy.

@@JeanaeJonesPlanningAvonHome ooof I can’t even imagine. That’s one reason why I can’t do elementary 🥲

I am a coach in one of the popular institutes in the Philippines, I love to educate and share my knowledge to my students as an entertainment technology graduate. I do have some cues to share to my students. I'm just sharing. Also, they said that I look like a student tho 😂
