You left an urban, high paying job, which, while intellectually challenging, has NOTHING on the requirements of farm labor, and you are sticking to it. I predict that you will indeed make it. Your online journey shows indisputably that you understand that rewards are measured in more than money. Keep working on life balance and trust that a life lived in the pursuit of a noble goal is a life of purpose - which studies have shown is a key indicator of longevity :).

This was really interesting and really helpful. But damn you work hard! I won’t be working anywhere near as hard once I get my property, but this shows me that it can be done without being out there constantly. I have a chronic illness and will need to rest at least a few hours a day. But I can see that as long as I plan things well and make sure I don’t have more animals than I can handle (or need), the majority of the work fits into morning chores and evening chores, with the odd extra check or tlc for a sick animal and sometimes a building project. I also don’t need mine to be a business, I’ll just be raising my food. If you can manage it with working 8 hours a day, I can manage it without working. So, thanks! I needed that! Concerning the plastic that was wrapped around the hay bales, we cut that into strips and crochet or weave them into rugs. We cut them pretty quickly with rotary cutters. We use a huge hook so the rug is thick and tall. We have them in front of the sink because it makes your legs feel better because it is like a thick cushion. It's also great, especially in the wet seasons, because you can make a mess and then just take it outside and rinse it off. The cats and dogs like to lay on them also. We also crochet them into grocery shopping tote bags. They are really handy to carry milk, ice cream, cheese, etc., and other wet/sweating items, plus it eliminates waste. If you do not know anyone who uses it, such as Amish, you can call the local county extension office and they probably have name referrals for 4H or crochet circles. When we run out, we have to go buy used bags from Walmart, so you would be doing someone local a favor.
