Working at Amazon is a thrill a minute. Everyone gets the one minute late "coaching". When you're new you have to pretend to care, after a few months you just say whatever. Fire me. The trifling management is the worst part of the job. The job is not cool at all in any way, but you get used to it and don't expect it to be. Never get used to poor leadership demotivating you and making it worse.
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
Wow! I did not know that. I very much agree with you, Gary. Sounds like you had a very similar experience as me. Hope you're in a better position now. Thanks for the comment!
@garybeltrand58022 жыл бұрын
Yep, they'll try to get on you about any dumb little thing, even things that aren't your fault. TOT, "low" rate. Stuff happens that hurts your numbers that you have no control of. To be fair, it's horribly boring work and a lot of people there will screw around too much, work sloppy, and waste time if they didn't watch them like that. If you're not one of those people and work hard your whole shift, they should respect that and just leave you alone. The job is depressing enough as is. Quit a couple years ago. Safe to say, no regrets.

I enjoy it. But I'm also good at it. I pick 450-500 an hour , and that's going nonstop. It's mentally exhausting but I came from ship dock and I hated it so it's a breath of fresh air in comparison to the docks. The PA's don't bother me, probably because of the numbers I'm putting up. But I'm on flex so I can come and go as I please. I usually work like 20-25 hours a week , just enough to cover my car and rent, but they give me a shift diff for working certain hours so I get 5 more dollars an hour sometimes and I love it.

400 units per hour is the minimum You have to keep your scan rate under 8 seconds.. which means you have 8 seconds to dig through over stuffed bins scan and move on… and god forbid you have to drink water or go to the restroom because your rate drops by 70 units in a couple minutes. Amazon isn’t made to be a career and they know it. They want a revolving door of employees..everyone is disposable.
@bigboss-yv2nr8 ай бұрын
don't buy into that 400 rate bullshit. This applies for anyone reading this as a picker or stower: Sign into FC games at your station and stay in the top 50% percentile and i guarantee you they'll never fuck with you about rate. 400 pick rate is literally impossible on a consistent basis unless you're working at an unrealistic pace, NOTHING goes wrong the entire shift with the pods or anything else and you get nonstop multiples and perfectly organized bins. Like i said, impossible. Seriously, don't stress. Stay in the middle of the pack and you won't have to worry. As a picker, worry more about not making errors and especially the golden rule: DON'T OVERFILL THE TOTES.

@@homewithdestiny thanks, Destiny! I work as a picker, too, but our pick rate is by the hour, like for example we need to pick at a rate of 300 units/items/products per hour. @@davidwebb091370 Oh that's right! Sorry I got mixed up because I no longer work there anymore. I believe I would hit the required 300 units per hour, a fair amount but not always. I want nothing to do with that, but others will pay a fortune in time and money to do it. I may think it is stupid and boring, to me, but I understand that others enjoy it. How do you know which item to pick up from the yellow machine that comes and how do you know which tote it has to go in?
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
Those are great questions! I will try my best to answer in a way that makes sense. 😁 There are multiple ways to know where and what item to grab from the machine. There is a projector that shines a light directly on the cubby of where the item is located. There is a screen that shows a diagram of the machine and lights up the area of where the item is located. Each cubby is also labeled by a number, letter and color. For example "2A pink". The screen shows a picture of the item, the quantity, and the cubby location. Once you have the item, you place it into the assigned tote. The tote has a circular ring light right above that lights green. You place the item into the tote and press on the light to signify that the item is in the tote. And then the process repeats itself. A new item lights up on the screen, you grab it, scan it, then place it into the tote and press the ring light. The machine then moves away and a new one appears and you continue the process for the whole day, lol. Pretty repetitive and easy to learn overall. Of course there are exceptions and unique circumstances that pop up that might require a different step; like a missing item, damaged item, barcode that won't scan, etc.

That’s a newer warehouse that uses robot drives to carry the yellow shelves. While there isn’t any walking around as in the older warehouses the expected speed rate for these pickers is higher. 10 hours per day , 4 days in a row every week is tough. One entiery later sums it up doesnt it. Im about to leave stowing for picking.
@bigboss-yv2nr8 ай бұрын
picking is much better, it's easier to zone out and time will go by quicker. U get ur own little station and you'll be more isolated than stowing, which is basically a dream if u don't wanna deal with people. Turn on FC games and stay away from the bottom and u won't be bothered the entire shift. Easy to have an earbud in the ear facing the pods. Feels like free money once u get the hang of it.

Versus my experience picking at JFK8, a fulfillment center in Staten Island, New York, where the supposed "expected rate" was 400 units per hour, this picker moves very slowly, doing maybe 270 uph. But, then again, I was among the rare pickers at JFK8 actually were doing 400+ uph. The real average was, indeed, about 270 uph.

I am the fastest picker on my warehouse and I did 525 but in my warehouse is more difficult because we have to put the items in a locker, not in the tote. The regular pick in my warehouse is called pick to tote. The first time I did pick to tote I reached 780.

Great detailed video. How long you there? Do they ever make you work different shifts or more hours? I'm about to start the same shift. Also why do some show pickers on the OP machines and other show pickers using these robots? They are both called Pickers?
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I worked there for almost 6 months. They don't make you work different shifts but there is mandatory overtime during PEAK season. This is usually during the holidays, so I had to work five 12 hour days. I'm not too familiar with OP machines but I do believe they are also called "pickers" as well. Hope that helps and good luck! :)

If I get more than 8000 steps in on a normal day I've exceeded my average ( I don't work at Amazon). Any Amazon step counters out there that keep track of their steps?
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure how many steps exactly, since I have never personally tracked mine... but remembering how tired my feet would feel after a shift, I would say you definitely would hit over 10,000 steps a day. The warehouses are huge

After the breaks, do you go to the same station assigned to you when you first arrive?
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
Yup, usually you do unless a manager sends a message on your screen, or directly tells you to go to a different station, for various reasons.
@eikcajurt2 жыл бұрын
@@homewithdestiny Thank you so much, also when you arrive how do you know what you need to do?
@homewithdestiny2 жыл бұрын
@@eikcajurt When you arrive, you go to a designated place with everyone else to do stretches. There should be a screen that shows everyone's profile pic with the station number they are assigned to for that day. Sometimes your name doesn't show up, so in that case, you go up to a manager and they will assign you one directly. Glad I could help! 🙂

There is a button for each , missing , unscanable , or damaged. For unable to scan and damaged , place item in a new tote , scan the tote and send it down.
