This is definitely not the norm. Most likely as a software engineer you will get to enjoy the usual 9 to 5 routine. Excluding a recreational room and little freebies like food and drinks. Not that that's bad. I'd rather go to work at 7 fixing some bugs and get the hell out at 3

These videos don’t show when, u have u skip breakfast and eat other two meals on ur desk while coding if the task is length but moderately difficult. When task is difficulty or some critical bug shows up then, no lunch n all just some protein bars or something. Most of these videos are of people who r freshers so it’s not the end of the world even if they work leisurely. I’m Head of Product ( Lead engineer of the product team, front end, back end n dev ops for the product). Good days r fine but bad ones were like starting at 9am and working till 6 am(21 hrs) the next day lol. Coz various teams comprising of hundreds of engineering’s work on different sections in a product and if some developer made a mistake and it wasn’t caught in unit or integration test, then u r the one who has to figure it out, as sometimes mistakes hv domino effect, as a single service is used at multiple places and often bad code or mistake from one developer affects others developers n their services as well.

that is normal in the big companies. it is required to have breaks and chill for couple of minutes, get coffee and etc. Calculate launch break + all these small breaks and you will see that most people actually work about 6 hours in a 8 hour shift and that's how it should be in order to be productive and actually like your job. In one of my jobs, we had a tracker that calculated the time that we actually work on the PC, it was about 6 hours and our boss said "that's normal, it's how it should be"

You had breakfast twice. One thing I wanted to see is what you were actually coding. Of course, if you showed that, you probably would be an ex-Instagram employee. I'm nearing the end of my software career, but if I was younger, my day would be more like yours, instead of a less interesting video. Basically I'm up very early, then a very short drive to my office (two miles). Working on and off at my desk, figuring out some software issues, or troubleshooting (today's big problem). Any meetings are on Microsoft Teams. Snack at my desk and leave at about 2:00 pm. That's it.

This and many of these videos "a day in a life of a software engineer" have not been real, instead of showing how busy software engineers spend all day long writing code, reviewing and debugging them, instead many have of you just filming yourself doing things that are really not connected to engineering ways, so advice is for you to really show us what software engineers works on his/her daily basis. Many of you have been filming yourselves showing that you are using most of your time playing with dogs at home(for many who used a work from home), playing ping pong, wandering through the city with a roller coaster, hanging out with friends at bar, doing yoga or spend time in gym, drinking coffee and eating different of good foods(although many of what you are doing are true) , others have been watermarking their coding sessions thinking that we will copy their codes and deploy them into production and benefitting from their work. Many of you have truly deviating so far away from our expectations as many of us expected we will see you spending your day as software engineers dealing with engineering problems(writing, reviewing, testing and bug fixing codes) around your offices or at home for those who are working from home. Please guys show us something natural like the one here by this guy here kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLJlGN8oaidr6s
