One of the techs that trained me during extern is an MRI/CT tech. He would let me assist him by screening the patient, setting up for exams, cleaning and disinfecting the room, and he would let me sit in the room with him during procedures and he explained what he was doing every time I was there. I never considered anything past RT until then and now it's all I think about. We need more channels like this showing what we really do in the radiology world

Just found your channel today, I want to salute you bro. I've been an MRI tech since 1999. I like what you're doing, from the little I've seen so far. I encourage you to keep it up, it's good to see the younger generation motivated and positive. I especially liked when you mentioned compassion, such an important part of what we do. So few understand what we really do, it's neat to see you peeling back the curtain a bit to encourage and inspire others. God bless you and your wife.

@CarlosandKandisVids
@CarlosandKandisVids 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheSaLViGuRL Hi Amber, thanks for you question, give vaccines, no, not inn radiology. You could probably volunteer to do that outside the hospital, but certainly not as an MRI tech. Deal with needles? Yes, most MRI techs start IV's regularly, unless you work in a really big department that has assistants or nurses that take care of that for you. I've worked in both environments. It's not that big of a deal, you can do it! I encourage you to learn more, I'll answer any question you have, if I can...

Not complaining though, because that side hustle pays my mortgage with 12 hours of work. MRI techs are in short supply in San Antonio right now, and one of the hospitals in my system is so desperate they're paying me 133/hr to do that thing I do. I hope you come across something similar when you're trained up. The field could use some young go getters. I love to teach, been doing it a very long time. This seems so chill bro, you got some windows, the back room looks nice and quiet, doesn’t seem like you have a bunch of annoying co workers. I’ve been knocking out prerequisites since last year I’m so close to applying for a 2 year program through the community college here. Coming from almost 6 years straight of call center inbound customer service, really hope I get accepted. Thanks for the detailed videos man there’s not a lot of videos showing all the little details and shots inside the actual work place it really gives a more clear idea of what it’s like 👍🏽

A tip to anyone going into this field. If you are new and going to an interview make sure they provide you with a registered tech, the ARRT is kind of vague on their sight but it seems the way I understand it, a MRI registered tech has to be able to vouch and sign off on your stuff not just a diagnostic Xray tech in mri. So in the interview make sure they have a registered tech, make sure they are BUSY. If they are slow, you won’t get the exams you need, and make sure you are not working alone most of the time, these are situations I’ve landed in and now I’m in a contract and I’m stuck just pushing buttons for the next two years. Again, find a busy place. Be ready to work, don’t be a lazy ass, if you want the easy road then by all means skip the registry and work at a clinic, you can take that easy road. But if you can obtain the diagnostic/CT/MRI registries the opportunists are as vast as a nurse and you can fetch way more cash than the average tech. That’s #1 reason why we are here the cash.

I’m gland to stumble on your videos, I’m currently a ultrasound tech thinking on going into mri. I’m curious to know what is your job as an mri tech after getting the images done, do you have to make you observations and report for the radiologist like we do in ultrasound?
@MRIMan
@MRIMan 2 жыл бұрын
We do not make a report for the doctors like ultrasound. We do let the Radiologist know if we find some crucial abnormal findings like a unknown brain mass for instance. Sometimes the patient need to go straight to ER., so we have to know what we are looking at. We also may have add additional coverage for some abnormal findings.

Hey. So what determines what hoe much of an area shows up on the images radiologist read. Does the coil determine the field of view for like the shoulder. Or is it the imaging planes that the tech chooses that matter.
@MRIMan
@MRIMan Жыл бұрын
The coil itself will always give you a limited field of view. We can adjust the FOV based on how much of the anatomy shows up on the coil.

Gadolinium kills. That contrast you used causes autoimmune, pain, and nervous system disorders. I had one MRI with and without contrast a year ago. I had no idea the contrast was a toxic heavy metal. I have been in excruciating daily pain ever since. I couldn’t speak and was convulsing for days after it was injected into me. You seem like a nice guy so I want to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you should really read the medication insert on the contrast solutions and warn your patients of the risks before you inject them. Gadolinium does and will destroy lives. I am only 24 years old and I am not sure how much longer I will be around to endure this pain. Hopefully you can save some patients from going through similar torture.
@MRIMan
@MRIMan 3 жыл бұрын
Iam sorry to hear you are going threw that. It's the doctors choice to order contrast. It's also the patients choice to receive contrast. We give them a form from FDA explaining all the risk vs benefits. Your case must be really rare. It's very interesting, I've never heard if that happening after 4 years of scanning. I haven't had a patient come back and tell me that. Being educated and giving education on contrast is very important. I hope you can pull threw. Would you be willing to do a interview and talk about your story?

We’ve always given out contrast disclosures for patients. I’m afraid most of them probably don’t take it seriously and probably only skim over them. I’m sorry that no one was straightforward with you.
@kateskar
@kateskar 3 жыл бұрын
@@gkcj15 Thank you for your kind words, Cody. From what I have seen, the disclosures vary from facility to facility. I have read about a dozen different disclosure forms. Some simply state that contrast is "quite safe," while others discuss the possibility of allergic reaction or NSF if the kidneys are not functioning properly. Despite that, there is third severe reaction called GDD (Gadolinium Deposition Disease), which is not stated in any disclosure form. If you know of any facilities that warn people about GDD, they are doing God's work and I would love to know where they are so I can recommend their service to others. That said, GDD sufferers all have functioning kidneys before their MRI. There is no single factor that sets them apart from other perfectly healthy people, so it can and does happen to literally anyone. Unfortunately, in GDD, you will see some people go from a perfect bill of health to lifelong pain as a result of just one MRI with gadolinium. For other GDD sufferers, it may have take a few MRIs with gadolinium to notice effects or to notice that their symptoms were coming from the gadolinium itself.

Hello! I've been trying to get into the radiologic tech program in my city for the past 2 years (they admit through lottery selection and I haven't been lucky enough to get in) I feel as if I'm wasting time ... I'm getting discouraged but my university in my area requires a associates degree to begin their bachelor's program for MRI, CT or nuclear medicine... the associates can be in rad tech, sonography or radiation therapy... would it be bad to apply for the sonograpjy program and then finish that just so I can begin my bachelor's in mri? Or should I stay on course with rad tech and become multi functional in xray, mri and possibly CT as well? I'm stuck. Just want an honest opinion. Thank you so much for the videos
@MRIMan
@MRIMan 3 жыл бұрын
I would say do what you are interested in. I didn't wanna do x-ray , I wanted to be just a solid MRI Tech. If I were you id just choose one path at a time. If your gonna be a Ultrasound tech you should stick to that for a few years. If you have patience you can become a multi modality tech. You mite have to do xray for 1 year or 2 with that low pay and than take another clinicals for MRI and pass the boards. You will be more likely to get a job in a hospital with xray. If you can muscle threw and hang in there that's the bet ter route.
