I low key had a relationship just like this at my job. We both called each other "besties" but always blushed around each other and always tried to be alone together(we worked at the same job and met at this job also), until one day she said "Bestie, can you give me a hug so I know I'll see you tomorrow at work?" with a huge smile on her face. When she told me that, I was like 1st the bestie hugs, now she basically confesses in a hint-like way that she wouldn't mind me crushing on her, my bestie? What next? But as time went by, I tried to fight the urge to really confess my feelings for her since we were besties until one day she quit our job due to poor management. She only stayed so long because of me. So I wrote her a farewell letter and confessed to her in the letter. She said that she didn't know I felt that way about her, I guess because I tried so hard to hide it. lmao Also she has a boyfriend BTW too, and this is when things get funny. All this time I thought I was hiding my affecting for her but she told me he already knew, because "were besties" and she told him "We are not doing anything out the ordinary, he's just my bestie" I was 💀 because she proceeds to tell me he knew about our bestie hugs and all. I was dying laughing because if the dude knew ALL this and never bother to confront me about it, he must have huge loyalty for trusting his girl around her "bestie" that I could have made a move and he would have done nothing about it. 😂 One time she even drove me home once when my car broke down, I could have made a move right there but I tried not to disrespect the fact that she was taken and I was a bestie, not a thief. lol
