I love it when they say 'tight pockets' it's not necessarily tight, it's the way the pockets are cut. Hence why the middle pockets are difficult. There's not many cue sports, when you can play a shot along the rail, and hit the rail half way up and still pot the ball. It's why English pool (8-Ball) players, snooker players easily transition from their sport to American Pool. 0:02 "If he can make this!" jeez, if he can't, he is in the wrong sport! I love how the American commentators love to make this game harder than it is... watch a game of 8-ball (ultimate pool series) or Snooker and you'll see a difficult cue sport.
@ohsoleohmio3 жыл бұрын
9 ball is different game and so are the larger balls … there is much more to take into account everything is exaggerated…weight ,kick induced throw ,spin etc judd trump could play it all his life and still not get in the top 100 … many have tried mark gray has had 34 147s and hes been trying for years …. any pro 8 ball player could beat a pro snooker player playing 8 ball on an american table though … these pockets are ridiculously tight for american 9 ball … there shot selection is massively limited … and the way they are going through the racks is completely different than 7 year ago
@scambodia1473 жыл бұрын
Well said,agree totally,snooker requires far more skill,hence the difference in prize money at the in tournaments,no brainier really,but the numbnuts out there struggle to grasp the fact😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
@GrahransWoWGold3 жыл бұрын
@@ohsoleohmio Right, I know it's a totally different game, but my point still stands. The commentators during the Mosconi Cup, love to make 9-Ball (American Pool) harder than it is. However, I'll admit, the pockets look tighter than usual, but still, the ability to pot a ball along the rail, from the other side of the table, is made easier due to the cut of the pockets. The only pockets that are difficult, are the middle pockets. But, I'll reiterate, as I feel you've misunderstood my comment, when I say it's easier for a English 8-ball/snooker player to play 9-ball (American Pool), than it is vice-versa, I mean, a 9-ball player would struggle to play English 8-ball and snooker, whereas, it's a lot easier for an 8-ball, snooker player to make the move the opposite way! Gareth Potts, Chris Melling, Jayson Shaw to name a few, that played English 8-ball (blackball) and made it in 9-ball. Can you name me anyone that done it the other way round, and became successful - I think Shaw and Melling were very successful in 9-ball!
@GrahransWoWGold3 жыл бұрын
@@ohsoleohmio And I wanna add, American Pool you can jump balls when snookered, you get 12 diamonds (if used correctly) assist you out of snookers too. And regarding Michael Gray, he's highest rank was 74 - so he was only just a top 100 player in snooker! He was a 3x winning Mosconi Cup player, and at one point British No1 player in 9-ball. Could argue, he was more successful at 9-ball than snooker - even if he has recorded 34 147's! Just a couple of other names that done well from English 8-ball/Snooker to Anerican 9-ball. @@GrahransWoWGold 9 ball is incredibly difficult its the same as snooker when you get to the colours but there all over the place none of them are on there spots and then add 3 extra colours….this is virtually impossible on a snooker table without a completely different way of thinking and ofc big pockets like old club table maybe … yes for an amateur its harder to go from american to 7 foot british table or even a 6 foot dutch 8 ball table and technically snooker is harder much like russian billiards with even tighter pockets though its a different skill set what most don’t understand is that with snooker you dont need to calculate nearly as much in terms of kick induced throw and kick induced throw from side.. most snooker player even top pros do not hit the ball dead center and this has massive consequences with the big balls 4 inch pockets are fine to make players miss what is normally a reasonable shot just for entertainment purposes however it ruins the game if all the clubs incorporate this pocket size as after 2 weeks the balls do not slide in they rumble like the tightest most worn snooker table imaginable … its just not playable …not to mention balls not polished before every game and super heated table … 9 ball is incredibly hard game and like any sport to be the best you have to play the best appleton melling and shaw and potts are all predominantly pool players … different mindset …, they can all play snooker sure … could have been pros most probably … but many ‘snooker’ pros who have had 147s cOuld try 9 ball for a decade and never manage to do absolutely anything in the game imo the talent pool in america and europe for the big balls is massive and you can be sure that if they all tried to be snooker pros many would make it .. even if its theoretically more demanding is some technical regards … the big balls are much more demanding technically in ways you cant even imagine … mainly because of more friction at contacts throw side kicks weight of shot potential energy of balls ,cushions much more responsive to side etc etc it really doesnt matter how easy the pockets might seem to snooker players or anyone … the best still rise to the top and the most incredible talent from snooker or 8 ball still has to learn how to be the best at 9 ball a much more brutal game imo because its easier at least when you look at it from snooker minded perspective.. so who becomes the best at 9 ball ? those with not just incredible accuracy but every other talent also courage temperament foresight fitness etc etc if its an easier game the competition is ten times harder ….

For next years Mosconi Cup, they need to add one substitute, so if anything happens with one of the players, say injured or something else, there's a player that's prepared to play ready to sub in. Rather than a captain that wasn't prepared and not at his best. It's just a little unfortunate for the americans. So the lineup would be The Captain and Vice Captain, 5 Players (that play), and 1 Subtitute (that plays only when one of the five players get injured or can't make it for other reasons). The americans would of course be better off, if they had Billy Thorpe or other active players replace Earl rather than Jeremy.
@Silver-pm5iq3 жыл бұрын
I understand where you’re coming from with having an extra player just in case. As far as the Jeremy Jones subbing in for Earl, Jeremy is a very strong player and can hold his own.
@attalaaufarrafi83883 жыл бұрын
@@Silver-pm5iq it's okay for this year, but just in case it happens again for the following years and one of the two teams uses it as an excuse of losing. We of course want it to be as fair as possible
