@@bradleyburton2664 the ref explained what happened. initially when a ball gets cleaned, it was before a shot is about to be made. Jeremy made the mistake of wasting a lot of time thinking, going down on the shot, stopping and requesting the ball to be cleaned with 12 seconds left. it was the lack of concentration on Jeremy's part. even the ref was rushing to clean the ball knowing the time hasn't stopped and Jeremy still didn't get the memo.

I have read a lot of comments on this. Here is my take as a player myself. All players, Especially the Captain should know and understand the rules. The Referee is only there to enforce the rules and call fouls that he observes. The Referee is not there to tell you that you are about to violate a rule or create a foul. This is a major tournament with world class players. That all being said, I think Jeremy Jones really showed a lot of class and spirit during this match. I also think that the gestures from the European team speak volumes to their respect and admiration for Jeremy. We all make mistakes and sometimes it costs us a victory. I want to thank all of the players for bringing us another year of excitement ! I live 361 days a year to see this tournament. It is by far my favorite event and this year has been a great roller coaster all the way ! Stay safe and good luck to all !

It was a pity it ended like that because the shot he had left was an interesting one. I think he was halfway between thinking about dropping it in and leaving a cut for his next shot or trying to hit it harder and use the bottom cushion (avoiding corner bags). Being out of competitive play for a while, it can happen that your mind goes back to what rules might have been in the past. Especially under pressure and with a noisy crowd. A shame for him and his team as he showed great heart in the match.

Pool will NEVER experience the recognition of snooker so long as players are forced to shoot quick. It should not be a race. It should be a game won by skill. Once again, the world of business and promotion have taken over and bastardize the true essence of the game. First, Alcaide is a class act for how he handled the ending. I think the rule is good because players can use it as a timeout, BUT it needs to be changed to say you can't ask for a ball cleaning with under 15 seconds left in the shot clock. I can easily foresee controversy where a player accuses a ref of taking too much time cleaning the ball and intentionally running the clock out on the player. So,give the ref 8 seconds to clean the ball but must start before the 15 second mark. Otherwise, play on.

@yanf39492 жыл бұрын
JJ should've known the rules, no question about that. However, by the time the ref finished cleaning the cueball and left the table, only 3 seconds were left on the clock. No one can approach a table and make a shot in 3 seconds. The referee knew that honoring JJ's request would imminently result in a foul. For this reason I believe the referee should have denied the request to clean the cueball.
@moegreen65662 жыл бұрын
The referee isn't there to make sure what's best for you. His job is to enforce the rules of the game. Thus any player who requests to clean the ball he must do it. THAT"S HIS JOB.

If that were so, the referee should've also told Kaci that he was going to make a second consecutive shot in the doubles match... It's a shame, but the ref is only there to enforce the rules as they are.

@@yanf3949 rubbish so the other day are you saying that the ref should have warned team Europe that the wrong player was about to take the shot? He is there to enforce the rules nothing else. It’s the players right to have the cue ball cleaned at anytime and the ref should honour the players wish if the request is in the letter of the rules.

He clearly thought he had an extension left.. you can hear him ask for it and the usual high pitch screaming from the audience who also forgot that he already used his extension .. Contrary to almost everyone else, I dont think this match was ended unnaturally .. this is exactly how all long safety battles end .. someone looses his nerve and make a mistake.. it just didnt manifest in a bad shot but in JJ being caught in the moment and forgetting he already used his extension.. this is why players with more recent experience (and not from 13 years ago) ask the ref if they still got an extension. He even had time to quickly make some sort of a legal shot.. but instead entered the disputing mode, as a result from being generally frustrated from the 4 previous matches going Europe's way. I dont like matchroom very much, but they did nothing wrong here.. and neither did the ref's. And even JJ actually handled it somewhat well, under the circumstances.
@tonym25132 жыл бұрын
I agree, but I’d add that it really tried to manifest itself in a bad shot. JJ was up against the clock and his nerve in that last rack, and the double kiss/near scratch on the 1ball was where he really tried to give it away. That stroke was horrible, pure anxiety. I feel bad for him as a person, but as the team captain, this isn’t supposed to be able to happen to him.

Things like this make us question the validity of having a shot clock in the first place, I think it taints the essence of what billiards is all about, a thinking game. I think these players are so good that most of the time they don't need to take more than 20 seconds to figure out a shot, but those one off times where a player has to take their time a bit is for me entertaining aswell, I like putting myself in the players shoes and thinking what I would do in the situation, and then seeing the outcome, that's what makes snooker enjoyable for me to watch, it's just like watching a game of chess.
