@@jvgreendarmok Absolutely cracking house isn’t it? I loved the astrological ceiling especially. Cardiff castle (or maybe it was Castel Coch…)has some similar horoscope stuff of the Marquis of Bute.

First visit was in the 70s. Try Cumbrae too. Take or hire bikes to get the best out of it.

Yea, I always book online just to make sure I've got a ticket and don't need to rush when I'm at the ferry terminal. But not sure how beneficial it is when Rail & Sail tickets aren't available 😊

I live opposite Bute on Loch Striven, looking over the water to Port Bannatyne & Rothesay and experience the full range of weather here....year in and year out. The mistake many people make when planning a holiday to Scotland is to assume that July and August are the sunniest months, where in fact they are May and June. But that in itself is just a rough guide. .... Its could be sunny and glorious when you visit or it could be atrocious and quite frankly depressing....but thats Scotland. We do often experience wonderful indian summers in September, but we also have Septembers with non stop rain, it is impossible to predict. As one lovely Glaswegian lady said to me once, "Its Scotland, you take what you get." But dont let any of what I've said deter you. It is a magical, beautiful country. The people are a joy, and i wouldn't live anywhere else. All the best, (From a Londoner who ran away from his home town and never regretted it.) 😊🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A Norwegian viking king spent a year in Rothesay and it was therefore the capitol of Norway that year... 1267 if I am not much wrong. I go there at least three times a year as I love Rothesay and the journey to and from. Now, I use the buses to and from Wemyss Bay. It is one of the top 5 attractions in the Glasgow area. I can write 20 000 more words about why... but I will leave it like that.

Great video. My wife and I are visiting Glasgow for a few days at the end of the month, so we are trying to plan things to do / see during our stay. Fuinnily enough my parents had their honeymoon in Rothesay in the 50s and as a child (in the 70s) they took me on a river trip from Glasgow, via Dunoon, Greenock to Rothesay. Sadly there doesn't seem to be any river trips now, but this could be an idea. Just hope my wife doesn't get sea sick 🤮 Regards from Whitley Bay
@terrifictraveltales
@terrifictraveltales Жыл бұрын
That sounds lovely! I don't think there are any river trips anymore either (at least I haven't heard of them). Bute is indeed an ideal day trip from Glasgow. And hopefully it would be a calm ferry crossing and sea sickness wouldn't be a problem!🤞😊

Hope you have a great time and good weather. You could do CalMac tips to Cumbrae (Millport), Bute (Rothesay) and Arran (Brodick) . In that order maybe building up your wife’s tolerance to the big rolling breakers😁. I love the last trip since you’ve time for a steak pie dinner and a 🍺.

I noticed also that there's much ado about tickets in your video script. Your viewers should note that you can use the Spirit of Scotland ticket which allows you to freely travel all round Scotland on days that you choose. Unfortunately, just this year (for the first time) ferries are no longer included. But cross country buses ARE.! (as of-course the trains don't go absolutely everywhere).

Well I've subscribed - but it was a bit short. Also when you're expecting thousands of people to watch, more effort should be put into waiting for the right weather day. Remember, professional film crewes often have to hang around for days waiting for the right 'takes', sometimes having to sleep in tents.!!
