Day trip to the North American International Autoshow

I’ve been a car person since I was a kid. I can name a car from 50 yards away and tell you make, model, trim and engine. Useful? No.
I use my flight benefits to visit auto shows. In the before times I went to 2-4 a year. Ever since 2020 they haven’t been the same.

I lived in the Detroit area in my childhood. Went to the auto show with my Dad in 1980...will always remember, we met Al Kaline. Good times.

Nice video about the car show experience. This is pretty much the same feeling I got at the Dallas Motorcycle Show the last time I went (I'm about two hours east, easy drive to the Dallas convention center)... Its just not the same anymore.

Interesting film Darren, and what a shame the Detroit show is now what it is. I used to go quite regularly for my work and it certainly was like nothing else round the world, really glitzy and some interesting concepts (although really cold!). But I think you’re right; there are now other ways for the car companies to showcase their products rather than an expensive show.

I would suggest checking out the Pittsburgh Auto Show, Feb 14-17. We have had better luck seeing vehicles that we were interested in there compared to Washington DC.

Agreed, that the DTW LH lounge is awful. They're getting a flat fee from Priority Pass, so really no motivation to have a decent food spread when the lounge doesn't have any customers for their flights.

Darren.... is it us or them? i get your frustration at people who can't read, blocking the way because they don't have a plan!! 🙄 etc.. I get vehicles based on comfort, drive and how much stuff we can get into it Montreal had great car shows yrs ago but now not so much.

You ever go to the antique car shows I have a 58 Chevy Impala and a Corvette I put in the local car shows the World of Wheels which is the granddaddy of them all I took first place with my 58 Chevy Impala

2003 Toyota Matrix XRS. 1.8 liter engine making 180 HP naturally aspirated. Fun little ride. Also multiple Saturns in the 90s.
