@mustbeleslieg First, I got my CCNA and Security+ certification, then I landed a job at an MSP as a junior sysadmin. 18 months later I transitioned my current role (network engineer). If you can get an entry-level role at an MSP like helpdesk, you'll learn a ton in a short period of time and become desirable to other companies. I also suggest building and imaging a couple of computers if you're just starting out.

I'm glad you mentioned that the PMP helped you get the salary you want. I'm starting to see this idea that Certs don't mean anything and they are saying people should stop trying to get Certs and try to get the experience instead. While I agree that racking up on Certs is not going to guarantee a job, I don't think they shouldn't be written off altogether like we don't need them. Experience is definitely important, but the Certs are definitely the door openers.

I would say this. I have been a program Manager for 15 and I was making six figures without a PMP. I did eventually get my PMP two years ago. Some companies require it and some dont. What I notice is a billion dollar company dont care but a smaller company would. However PMP is a global recognize certification, but I will say I was making 6 figures without it. Always invest in yourself like Get your Agile and SAFe certifications, but confidence is what get you in the door

Happy for her but these stories are so jarring to me. She got offered a $105k job off rip after asking for $80k? These are unicorn stories. Very insightful and great to hear nevertheless but her start is unrealistic for the majority of us. Maybe I'm just cynical because this job market and job application process has been so frustrating 😅🫠 looking for a new PM job now and seeing 500+ people (Senior professionals w/ masters degrees included) apply to entry level PM roles. It's tough out here.
@symonebeez11 ай бұрын
Keep applying and they are always hiring PMPs in the GovTech space. It's interesting people think these are unicorn stories when we are regular people.
