We made it to Hiker Heaven!! Slowed down my pace during the 2-day hike to Agua Dulce. Met some awesome people at the KOA campground (444 mi) too!
My tent is the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2, I highly reccommend it!

I love your videos - and I love the diversity of the trail! People of all ages - and all of them offer a different perspective of what the PCT looks like! It's so fun to see your perspective alongside the others! Thanks for sharing!

You are right about diversity Jenn. Many early Hikers are foreigners. I think that is in part because they can only get 6 month visas so they start early to give them the widest weather window. Thanks for following.

I can say, without hyperbole, that you are nearing the top of the list of my favorite hiking vloggers. Great video. I loved the segment on your tent and would love to hear more gear talk in future videos.

Thanks Scott, you are too kind. Much of the credit goes to my daughter Lisa who always puts her spin on my trials and tribulations. Thanks for joining Team Rabbit.

Tent pockets are great, as long as you don't forget your glasses are in one when you take down and stuff your tent like I did. Excellent work of documentation. I enjoy your style. Thanks!

So right Tom. It isn’t likely that will happen with my glasses as I need them to take down the tent but I have forgotten other items. Thanks for following along.

I love your videos, keep trekking, you are doing great ! I am a fly fisherman who has many years experience in the Sierra backcountry. Hope you will do some fishing, you will be hiking thru some of the premier trout fishing in the entire country ! Once you head north out of Kennedy Meadows you will be in a whole different world, not what you’ve experienced from the Mexican border thru the desert and chaparral, you will be in wilderness, no motels, restaurants, or trail angels. Let me give a heads up about two matters: first, time your hiking so that you summit each pass in the mornings or no later than early afternoon, the Sierra can have wicked thunderstorms and lightning in the late afternoons, don’t be on top of a pass such as Forester, Mather, or Muir in the late afternoon. Second, I believe you will find the toughest stretch of the JMT to be the 22 miles from Mather Pass to Muir Pass. Mather is at 12,000 feet, you will descend 4,000 feet over 11 miles to the south Fork of the Kings River at 8,000 feet. Then you will ascend 4,000 feet to Muir Pass at 12,000 feet, on the ascent to Muir you may want to “call it” and quit, but don’t, you will make it to Muir. Take your pic at the Muir Hut. Let me warn you, you will love the Sierra, the most unique area in the entire country, you will not want to leave the Sierra. You will gain a personal and deep understanding of the famous quote from John Muir “ The mountains are calling, and I must go ! “. Wish I could meet up with you on the trail , during August we are going on a fishing expedition from the base of Whitney to Yosemite, 220 miles, in the backcountry for 32 days, off and on the JMT. Keep the videos coming, you are on the adventure of a lifetime !

Good to hear. How's the snow levels in the Sierras? We still have 8-10 feet compacted snow at 6000' elevation here in Oregon, it's still snowshoe and backcountry ski season for at least another 4 weeks.
@RabidRabbit
@RabidRabbit 6 жыл бұрын
memathews As far as I can tell it is too early for an old but inexperienced guy like me to enter the Sierra. I’m hopping north of I-80 for a couple of weeks and then maybe back to KM. If I’m not alive in the end, the hike doesn’t count.

Saw in some of your replies you are getting back on trail tomorrow. So glad! I need my Rabid Rabbit fix. You are part of the big three thru hike vlogs this year. Dixie, Darwin and RR. I was really hoping you would meet up with Darwin on the PCT and do some joint filming. God bless and safe travels.

Yeah them Columbia pants have sewing issues. I have 3 pair. each one has bad stitching. Maybe U look at White Serria. i have 3 pair and will buy 3 more. White Serria are Teflon coated and even red wine stains easily wash out in water. Teflon stops the rain. I luv that. WS Cargo pants r made of Nylon n they are tuff.

Something cool I just figured out. Was looking on Google Maps for where the heck is Agua Dulce and found that the PCT is shown as a dotted line on the map. Makes it even more interesting to follow along. Happy Trails!

PS, if you zoom in you can see a satellite view and eac data point (1 per minute) shows info such as time, speed, etc. it isn’t 100%accurate but close enough for stalkers.

Hi, I'm another older Utah guy (Provo) that really likes following along on your hike. Seems like it helps get me prepared to eventually try it myself. One thing I've been trying to do in preparation, is find an accurate website that shows all the mileposts, so that as I follow along with hikers like yourself I can tell where they are in relation to other people and stuff on the trail. So I was thinking postholer was pretty accurate because it has such good detail, but it shows Messenger Flat CG at at mile 423.9. Is that inaccurate and if so, any suggestions on the best source for all the milepost minutiae on the trail?

There are several resources with differences between them. There are various reasons for the discrepancies such as reroutes being updated in one resource but not another. I use electronic apps including Guthook and Halfmile. Each have advantages. All of my info is based on Guthook. Yogi’s book is based on Halfmile data. I can’t comment on Postholer.

Scott is correct; however it also has the mtnglo feature which are small led lights sewn into the seams. I find that useful for packing up early. One other observation: I had heard 2-person tents were popular on the trail but I don’t see many. I do like the space though and it is worth it to me.

The family that runs it are named Saufley. Perhaps you can contact them through directory assistance or almost any hiker group. You could also call Triple Crown Outfitters as I think they can help.
