My dad was part of the SCA. It's like a combination ren faire, larping, and medieval competitive sports. We have a photo of him in plate mail triumphantly holding up a wooden sword. Part of the fun of things like that is the teamwork between fighters and crafters. Someone has to make that armor after all. My dad once made a chainmail vest, we used to wear it for fun when we were kids. I got archery lessons from the SCA people too. And one time dad put the chainmail vest on a haybale and shot an arrow through it to test his work. Verdict: Great for slashing, not so much for arrows.

Can confirm: sneaking everywhere drains your stamina faster (in real life too!) I once did laser tag for 5 hours and duck walked everywhere. Legs were blasted afterward. Honestly sneaking around or swinging weaponry a lot should cause muscle fatigue if you fight like hell.

Absolutely, but I think that won't happen because PZ is very melee oriented. It would be great because it would make people use firearms more since fatigue from shooting guns is much less pronounced.

IRL if you're driving a city/large town taxi or delivery vehicle around lots of intersections, you get tired v quickly due to mostly the concentration required; in protracted combat it's very variable: green troops initially tend to suffer more from concentration fatigue (as they're trying to focus on many things at the same time); veterans suffer more from the stress (as they have more experience & thus can anticipate potential life-threatening problems earlier). Periods of mid-battle tense waiting don't help either variant ofc

On the medieval combat thing: Look up HEMA (historical european martial arts). Martial art systems from various periods including the medieval period without the potentially cringe larp (depending on your sensibilities🙃). I believe the earliest source is from around 1300. It's a real rabbit hole to go down, and a bit of a trip after you've been taught all your life to think of medieval people as just being stupid

So far I"m liking this play, I mean, I was looking forward to a quiet agrarian self sufficiency in the countryside but you kinda took a sharp left turn, so....okay. but I do hope you manage to take this to the ENDGAME. so many games I see LOTS of early game, and a taste of midgame. but completionist in me wants to know...what is the ultimate? what does a hand crafted fortress, the most safe structure you could fabricate or upgrade....how much weapons and ammo can you stockpile? how reliable, and varied a food sourcing can you procure, gather and grow? it's the late-game grind, and NOBODY HECCIN' DOES IT! so I don't know what's out there!

I think the problem of taking It to the endgame Is It becomes entirely self sufficient to survive at some point and that's basically the endgame and gets boring to watch, that's why you don't see too many big KZbinrs going to those lengths and it's why his Zero to Hero playthrough was only 16 parts. It's why they mix it up with modded plays, challenges like the Zero to Hero, Nomadic playthroughs, Insane zombie counts, CDDA, etc. You gotta think about It from the perspective of a content creator.

@@halfknight6706 Yep: while the 'ultimate challenge' is to grind thru to (effectively) immortality, the actual gameplay (that gets tedious after a while: eg the star-jumping 'burpee' cheese) does not attract/retain views (hence not making RL money for the creator & the publisher, usually via ads). If the creator has a huge following demanding concentration on one game type/genre it may work, but in general diversity is better: ie more viewers (hence financially rewarding & channel upgrades) for the creator (& therefore publisher) when viewing figures for one series drop off :( Twitch & YT have different target markets too: Twitch currently favours smaller/niche channels (hence more indie-focussed) while YT currently favours larger channels showing mainstream popular releases; this may change arbitrarily as their respective beancounters decide which method is more profitable..

Seriously: LPG (liquid petroleum gas) fuel is generally known as 'pet-rol' in the UK, 'petroleum' (or similar linguistic equivalents) in most of Europe & Asia, & 'gasoline' in countries with a high US-taught Engish language. For completeness, DERV (aka diesel oil/fuel oil) is often used in remote local heating systems & thus may also be referred to as 'heating oil', whilst aviation fuel (kerosene, or paraffin in UK terms) was/is used in most contemporary aircraft engines both prop & jet (the game is set in ~1993, hence the prevalence of CRT TVs) All of the above are various fractions of crude oil; rocket fuel is a completely different chemical mix that I won't describe here (tho Factorio or even ONI players may be interested)

pretty sure it was AA that got me into this game - around 400 hours ago. learnt so much from this guy. but i gotta say - i think he's been using guns a little too often - his melee is getting rusty. theres a couple of times he was aiming no where near the zomb and he's like 'o noes, the animation!' lol. or even dealing with the zomb he's standing on instead of the one coming at him, works ok with a piston, not so much with a nightstick especially when you are starving tired and cold. mind you he still handles a mob way better than me.

We used to have armored combat in full suits, there are several guilds around the world. All weapons and armor is inspected to regulation, blunted no sharps, and no lunging or thrusting. Bouts usually last a few minutes due to the weight and heat. You have to wear a paddes armor under your armor to protect you from your armor...hmmmm

Medieval combat goes by the modern name HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) and people definitely still do it. The problem with a pickaxe is that while it would be fairly devastating and pierce through most armor, it’s easy to see coming and the windup leave you very open.

Vans I feel are the best, if not truck's for vanilla. But in a modded run, I'll use a military vehicle similar to the Oshkosh but with a flatbed in the back. It's storage is roughly close to 700 and it gets good miles but it's slow and doesn't have the best momentum so I'd refrain from taking on hordes with it unless you wanna be stuck in the heart of a swarm reminiscent of Frank West being on the tank at the end of Dead Rising.

Why don't you ever use the 'walk to' trick to move through forest to avoid getting scratched? I highly urge you to do so! In one of my games i was casually chopping wood around my house when apparently a stray branch pierced my jugular and i would've died right there and then if i didn't have a bandage on me, which is probably the worst and embarrassing way to go in this game. I like to think of it as the forest fighting back. Ever since I have developed a fear of Project Zomboid's many trees.
