Some great memories on there. I was born in Eccles and Pat hospital in 1952, lived in Boardman Street until we moved to Brookhouse in 1955 when it was built. Lived there until I left to get married and visited my parents until they got old and moved away around 2004. I had a very happy childhood and Eccles was a great place to grow up, not too big and not too small and with the big world of Mahchester to explore as I got older. Makes me feel sad, happy and grateful all at the same time.

Snakebites on the grass outside the Cross Keys. Darts nights round all the Joey Holt pubs. Chips, peas n fried egg from Johnny Liu's chippy on Green Lane. Being a waiter upstairs at the British Leg Iron when Peter n Vera had it. Me n my mate working in Chi Fok's chippy on Trafford Rd. Eeeeh I could go on all night............ happy daze, gone for ever

The pubs that are no longer open. The two Star Inns, one on Liverpool Road, now flats, and the other in the centre, now a dentist. The Golden Cross, The Ship Canal, and the Church Inn, all now demolished. The Golden Lion, now a shop, and the Royal Oak next to it, sitting empty. 😢

I was born in 1963 this video including all the photographs have brought back a lot of good memories of my hometown. At 4.57 there is a still image of Lane End and the houses that have been demolished our house was just where the substation now stands it was number 13 and the last one beyond the row that still stand's. 3 houses were demolished on that row obviously including ours. I visit a couple of times a year as most of my siblings still live there. I recently walked around the precinct and the town centre what a mess. Salford council have ruined what was a lovely market town. I know lots of town's have suffered decline but Eccles is pretty much a Ghost town. Can the Eccles people not demand for Salford to be gotten ridden of as the Guardian of the town as they have done nothing of any good! Great video and photos by the way thankyou for posting this here and well done.

Salford City Council are regenerating the area. The carpark is being demolished and there are spending millions on it, work starts June 2024. The town has become overcome with Shoplifters, Druggies and Beggers. But in the plans I believe a new task force is to be set up between Salford Council and GMP to rid the town of them all and to come down hard on the people and businesses that buy from these Shoplifters. I honestly believe Eccles the Old Eccles is on its way back.

Some great nights in silver screen and Talk of the north. Seem to remember somebody telling me if you walked from the first pub at Patricroft to Eccles precinct there was over 25 pubs along the route and some people tried to drink a pint or half in each one of them on a pub crawl.. 😂😂😂 Also used to play football on brookehouse playing fields in Eccles, that was when the pitches were mud baths most of the time.. lol great memories.

Once the video is on there it can't be edited. There are Two options, I've put a Tag in the settings to mention George Shepherd and I can add is name into the video title, that is one option or the second option is to permanently delete the video. These photos have been handed to me with no markings on them and I can assure you they have not been ripped from Facebook has stated. Which option would you like me to go with. I really don't need the stress so I'm happy doing whatever.

I've added George's Name to the video title, if your not happy with this then I will delete the video if you want me to. Don't need the hassle in my life at the moment. Thanks.

The front is being kept and incorporated into the new build for the Luxury Apartments, so at least a bit of this beautiful building lives on in a new life.

Everything does in black and white, but I assure you there was plenty of colour around. It was positively pychodelic even in the early sixties, although they only cleaned up the buildings a lot later.
