I don't think there was any "allowing". The fans were in the trackside access section and there were simple waist high metal gates separating them from the track, like you would see at a parade or similar. When that big crowd pushed the gates over and started running, there was no where near enough security to stop them. I watched the mains from the stands, and when we walked down to the track after the races, the gates were still laying flat on the ground, we had to jump over them (spectators are allowed on the track briefly after the races).

I've been there many times and the gates have been the same for years, never more required. There were the usual drunks but the weed was everywhere, it was hard to get a breath of fresh air and it's my belief these things contributed to the crowds bad behavior. I'm so sick of addicts..

That crowd was so drunk and high, it was ridiculous, that probably factored into the decision to jump the gates early. I was there and the non stop smell of weed was disgusting, and of course the drunks were out. Some drunk behind us fell down the stairs and his beer can hit my wife in the head and covered her with beer. It's getting to the point that we can't go anywhere in public without dealing with the addicts.

Who the heck is Johnny Hopper? No idea. I simply appreciate that somebody his level of pure SX MX speed (may even still have his USA Pro License (no idea because he’s always pin-pointing things that, in my 50 years of racing MX, I would never see or even think of.). There are a lot of channels with S/MX riders, fans, and pundits my age but nobody breaks it down like Hopper. Support this guy. The absence of hype is a great time saver. All signal/no static. Once the all clear is given at the start all mechanics are required to vacate the starting area (usually around the 30 second board going up). Also one mechanic per rider on the starting gate. Jett had two

If the AMA doesn’t address the obvious infractions by Honda, they lose all credibility and will further erode trust in their justice system. You made some stellar observations and factually pointed out the AMA can only rely on their reserved right to enforce what hasn’t been covered in the penalty phase.

Rules are rules. If you don't enforce them all, how do you enforce any? Any chance of finding out if a protest has been filed? I think the race was great and probably no chance that this had anything to do with it, but they broke the rules. Interesting to see if it is addressed. They loaded the bike into the gate then made changes to it, pretty clear infraction.

There were no rules broken. Johnny is just stirring up drama for clicks. All the mechanic did was engage the holeshot device and remove the tire warmer late. Everyone's mechanic bumps into the other riders. the difference is they're usually not doing it 3 seconds before the gate drops. They weren't working on the bike because there were no tools involved. Only one crew member touched the bike.

@doglover136_ I have read the rule book and spoken about it many times including all the passages Johnny went over. Section 1.8.8 b,2 "Each Rider may have only one crew member accompany them to the Starting Gate. No other crew members are permitted at the Starting Gate." Jett had one and Hunter had one. Christien Ducharme - Race Mechanic, Jett Lawrence Cameron Camera - Race Mechanic, Hunter Lawrence There is no mention of tire warmers in the rule book. Engaging the holeshot device and removing tire warmers is not working on the bike. There were no tools involved. Ferrandis had 2 crew phoenix racing honda crew members attending to him, and he's the only 450 guy for their team. Section 1.8.10 a,2 "In the event a Rider needs to make repairs once loaded in the starting gate, the motorcycle must be pushed back from the gate to behind the rear restraint before any repairs can be made, so as not to interfere with other competitors." - This is where it was on the stand behind the gate.

The rules should always be strictly enforced. If we constantly make exceptions to the rules the line between what is legal or illegal is blurred. If the rules seem to harsh the teams can ask the AMA to change them in the future.

Dose Deegan now loose his win for the Ghost ride because a writen warning isn't enforcing that rule. 11:20 I have to point out something that I just can't not comment about. The acceleration due to gravity has NOTHING TO DO WITH AN OBJECTS MASS. Yes, as the weight increases the the force of gravity increases, but the reason they need to go faster as the mud builds up and the ruts deepen is because the lip of the jump gets lower. This changes the Range equation angle (R=V^2*sin2∆/g). As ∆ decreases the R decreases. The only way for R (range, length of jump) to be maintained is to by increasing V (velocity) on takeoff. g for Gravity is a constant acceleration and the mud does not impact it whatsoever. g is the same for all objects regardless of mass. Its all about the angle decreasing as the ruts get deeper. Ok that's what I came to say. Really great video otherwise Johnny.

As per the rule book, there was interference with other riders. But with that said, the AMA will do nothing because Jett is their golden boy. The rules need to be clarified for the holeshot device… Absolutely no setting it after 30 second board! Not a Jet hater, but factory teams shouldn’t be fussing around in the gate, paid professionals are last second, guess the rider needs to start without it… no touching bikes or riders after 30 second card and figure out the penalty… and Yes its a team so the rider deserves the penalty

Let’s imagine for a moment that every rider on the gate each had two team members working on their bikes, bumping into other riders. That would be more than 40 crew members and 20+ riders all on the gate 30 seconds before the gate drops. I don’t think the AMA would allow that, so was is it allowed without penalty for one rider? Everyone's bars get bumped on the starting line from mechanics moving from the front of their respective bike to the back so penalising one penalise all in that case, did they cut it fine yes but they did miss engaging the whole shot button 3 times so it was finer than it needed to be for sure. This is a storm in a tea cup for all the Jett haters to get on board because he smoked Tomac at Deytona let's be honest because not once have we heard people yelling about 2 mechanics touching a bike until this round and yet we see every weekend 2 mechanics helping to engage a holeshot device. The only guy to be disadvantaged here was Lawrance he was the only one not set 100% in his starting posture or position and he would have felt that rear tire cover being removed, no its a totally diffrent story if the mechanic was hitting the other bikes, there is really nothing in this warning first offence and a fine ...... haters got to hate I guess.

Title 24 podcast spoke with AMA who said no rules were broken. This isnt classed as a repair as it would of been taken off at the gate anyway. they also asked other riders and teams about the incident and asked riders around him if they were distrupted... unsure on the nswers but from what the title 24 guys said, there wont be any fines or points taken away. "but jett had 2 mechanics" no jett had 1 mechanic, i assume the other may of been hunters mechanic.... "but that means he had 2 mechanics touching his bike"... well you see all the time mechnics heling riders engage the holeshot device... No rules broken BUT its worthy of a discussion... what if jett thought his mechanic had his hands out the way and he didnt and jeet took off on gate drop... it was a dangerous situation... how do you stop it from happening again? i dunno, ban tyre changes on the grid??

I would consider this a repair to the motorcycle. Weren’t they changing Jett’s rear tire after the parade lap prior to the gate drop? In regards to removing the tire cover it is all apart of the repair process

Jonnie there is a behind the riders with a camera view the 2nd guy is Grabbed by the ama official, BUT HES ACTUALLY THE ONE THAT GOT THE TIRE WARMER OFF. SO THAT 2 People working on the bike within 5 seconds of the gate drop, its a FUCMING 1 LAP PENALTY , PERIOD , OR IF THE AMA Wants to go buy the rule book a total Disqualification, but its up to there desression on the penalty , so of there being NICE ITS A 1 LAP PENALTY. Jett should not have been allowed to start the race. His bike was not ready to race when it was pushed up to the gate. And, there were two guys at the gate working on the bike after the 30 second board was up. Automatic DQ. The rules are clearly stated. Ask Jeff Ward about what happens when your bike is at the gate and you need to do something to it.
