Yeah sucks we have to buy yakuza to enjoy this. Plus I'm guessing it's running on emulation so not necessarily a true port 😢 It's a shame as I've always can very curious how model 3 games would run on modern hardware with Ray tracing capacities. While I think the polygon models definitely hold up to this day, the lighting is very basic compared to a modern game.

I played this game once when i was a kid. I remember that the steering wheel shaked soo hard that i struggled to drive straight. I also remember that the arcade cabinet looked like an actual car and the screen was huge

I read years ago Sega changed the easy track in Power Edition as they recieved complaints Daytona 2 didn't have any traditional NASCAR courses in the game. Though I'd have prefered they gave you the option of choosing between the two as I vastly prefered the biodome level. The replacement is boring as all hell to look at, no giant Sonic carved cliff faces for starters :D

The interview with the crew chief reminds me of the interviews on F-Zero GX, it also had 30 racers at the same time. The winding tracks with a bunch of stuff going on in the background are similar too. Some of the same key developers worked on both games so that makes sense.

My local Walmart had this game in their arcade back in the day. I'd always play it while my grandma shopped. The last time I played this game was a little over 13 years ago now, right after I graduated from high school. I'd kinda given up hope on ever playing it again, but I'm thrilled to be able to finally play it at home.

As usual, your retro reviews are always great man! I’ll never forget the first time I ever played Daytona USA 2. It was back when you could walk into an arcade and play games like Harley-Davidson & L.A. Riders and Star Wars Trilogy Arcade. The sound of the demo music was roaring inside the arcade and immediately caught my attention. It was one of the first arcade racing games I had ever played and it started my love for racing and Sega’s arcade games in general.

The lovely thing I have watched from a few other videos here and there is that the versus cars (#1 to #16) have their own liveries and visuals as well, and I believe for all difficulty levels and AT/MT. I'm not saying Daytona USA didn't do this with their 8 cars, more that this is a good logical step forward and I really love that. ♥ It's not just "Oh here are the 16 cars with only the numbers being changed." At the very least, while being in a Yakuza game, at least SEGA remembers, I suppose. I do wish they will just put it all on Steam, imagine how crazy the PvPs will be. Call it a "Daytona Ultimate Collection", with ALL of the versions if you feel like playing them. I can only dream.

Interesting stuff mate, I enjoyed that! Daytona 2 is a game I’ve only ever played in the arcade so I’m interested to see what happens with the version they’re putting in Yakuza that people have been talking about today. With that game and Fighting Vipers 2 included I’m looking forward to it! It’s good to know more about this game, there are a lot of details I’ll be looking out for that you’ve mentioned next time I play it!

dude after a LOT of Daytona 3, I've been playing original Daytona completely forgetting about this game. The handling is so good in this game, the tracks are dope and it's so underrated I feel compared to other (sega) racing games. Plus it taught me about harsh life lessons early as a kid! Everytime my missus says "Oh how about we buy this or that" I always say... "Its a battle on the edge, babe. We'll fall off!" lol

I found out today about Daytona USA 2 coming to consoles, I'm a huge fan of Daytona USA 2, there's an arcade I go to in Orville, Ohio called Putt N Stuff & they have Daytona USA 2 Power Edition. Before I go there, I call to make sure it's working, unfortunately it's currently not working, I first played this game at the CiCi's Pizza in Murfreesboro, TN when I was 4 years old when I lived in Murfreesboro, TN, now I'm 20 about to be 21 on 9/20/23. I can't wait to play it at my house, my favorite car in the Chums Gum/J.C. Eagle car, mostly because it's basis is the Chevy Monte Carlo & I'm a huge Chevy fan, I also like the colors & paint scheme & it's nicer for me to drive. Which car is your favorite in the game?

It depends which course I'm playing. If I'm on the Beginner I like the Phantom Full Force, because I've really got the knack of how to drift it well around the final corner. If I'm on the Advanced or Expert I prefer the Scorpio, I find the Phantom a little bit too easy to spin out on them. In Power Edition I like using the Hornet on the Beginner too.

4:18 is it just me or that the starting time limit has been buffed from 60 to 80 seconds to make racing completion easier for all racers as a patch update? Because if that is really the case, it will make medium track better for beginners but gives pro players more room for minor slip ups and can still finish the race within the time limit

1990's arcade racers didn't get patch updates dude, arcade games didn't start running on proprietary PC hardware until at least the mid 2000's and these wouldn't get any online capability for many, many years after this. You can usually change options like the difficulty & the timer in the arcade cabinet's test menu.

SANCHIES H2K here, i get hope that Yakuza Gaiden includes a good analog support for Sega Racing Classic 2 for Controllers, because i never got a good Supermodel configuration. The only racing game playable for me on Supermodel is Sega Rally 2.

Hrrrm, that's weird. I've always found Daytona USA 2 plays really well with both wheel and joypad in Supermodel. Scud Race is a bit twitchy with a pad, but it's got pretty spicy handling in general.

Got Daytona USA 1 & 2 on Emulation. Play brilliant😂 joke that you can only play this buying Yakuza 7. Should of been a stand alone release, but its all about licensing. The Game has a different name as well.

oh yeah one more thing you do actually get to play the hornet car in the battle on the edge version but youll have to put a secret code on the course select screeen.If you input it correctly youll get the hornet car but theres a catch. the car itself does not handle like from the its original game daytona usa.instead you get to option to tune it the way you want as in power,grip and acceleration( if i remembered correctly)

Well this game is going to be in Yakuza 7 but not as Daytona USA 2 but as the alt name Sega Racing Classic 2 due to Copyright reasons because the Daytona USA name came from Daytona International Speedway which owns the Daytona USA name. Sega decided to use the Sega Racing Classic name because they used for the re-release of Daytona USA for modern arcade machines.

I'm mostly using a Logitech DFGT wheel in it, although there are a few bits I'm using a pad. I haven't got any strange custom settings though, it's just the default X axis.

I don't think the Daytona 2 rocket start method works in Scud Race - I don't think Scud has any kind of rocket start. Scud Race and Daytona USA 2 (and 1) handle very differently. There's no real trick to the drifting, you normally need to just come off the gas for a split-second, hit the brake (and shift down if using MT), then get back on the gas and steer through the drift (coming off the gas a bit if you're drifting too wide). It's often easier said than done though and I've had times (particularly on the hair pin on the advanced course) where it doesn't initiate the drift properly for some reason.

I have a question so every time I enter a password in outrun 2 original Xbox it seems that it doesn't save the unlocked cars is that normal? It seems that I can only save unlocked cars if I beat the game normally Also another random question would you stay in an old cemetery overnight ?

Yes, that's normal. The bonus stages, cars and music will only save if you've unlocked them by completing the missions etc. If you use a password they won't save I wouldn't _choose_ to stay in a cemetery overnight for no reason, but I'm an atheist & don't believe in anything supernatural, so if someone offered me cash to stay in one I'd take it.

How is the emulator for this nowadays? When I finally managed to make it work, the controls were terrible. Daytona USA 2 power edition is still the best arcade racer ever made. Daytona USA 1, sega rally 1, scud racer, and indy 500 are among my favorites. Edit: as someone who exclusively drove the phantom car with manual. I can tell you are pretty good. You're missing too much speed during drifts though, also some wrong gears and driving lines during some corners (not maximizing speed) but not bad at all. I ordered yakuza 8(?)(like a dragon gaiden) just to play this game, lol. I've played the first 3 yakuza games and enjoyed them, so it was not 54 euros "just" for Daytona USA 2 lol. But i doubt I would have gotten it if it wasn't for this😅. Edit again: this phantom can drift perfectly without brake, but you can occasionally use it. It's more about perfectly steering (which is not easy, especially 2nd gear to 4 or 3, 4 drifts), and changing gears from 3 to 4 and ever so slightly letting off the throttle. I can't wait to find out how hard this is gonna be on a controller 😂. 29 out 30 I'd do it right with a wheel. But there was always the slight risk of spinning

I've never had any issue with the controls in Supermodel. I usually play with a wheel, but even with a pad it still plays well. The only car that handles weirdly with a pad is the Hornet, which is a bit prone to oversteering, but there are ways to alter the X axis sensitivity in the game.

Model 2 Emulator's great if you use a wheel, but the default X axis is really super sensitive if you use a pad unfortunately.

Such a shame how there's no ideal version of Daytona 2. Power Edition adds some nice changes, but they ruined it by removing the excellent Beginner track, replacing it with something very bland and boring. Reminds me of what they did to Daytona CE on Saturn, where at the time i was excited to read that Sega had finally learned their lesson that 3 or 4 tracks, or even less with Manx TT(!!), wasn't at all acceptable for a full price home console game, but once again Sega go and ruin it with bland ugly tracks that looked unfinished. Made it feel nothing like Daytona. Don't even get me started on that disgusting ear vomit they call music. To a lesser extent they did a similar thing with Daytona 2001 on Dreamcast, it wasn't quite as bad, but still pretty toned down compared to the arcade games. No one wanted any of this. We wanted over the top arcade fun. After the DC stopped being sold i was done with Sega and their absolutely moronic decisions. Stopped buying their games because i was just so tired by this point, after so many years of this crap. They would always make something that could have been absolutely amazing, best in class, a total classic, but then ruin it with some blatantly moronic decisions.
