Let's go back to the days when there was no race involved, no political statements, and no male or female bashing. Give us great music like this again. Love this song by The Dazz Band. A pleasure to see both white and black people dancing together.

Race was always present, non-white people simply didn't have the same access to express the things they experienced. I would prefer to not go back to less tolerant times, but hey, be a bigot :)

"Let It Whip" is a song released on February 12, 1982 by the Dazz Band and their biggest hit, peaking at number one on the R&B chart for five non-consecutive weeks. The single also reached number two on the Dance chart and number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song won the 1982 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. The Dazz Band is an American R&B, funk band most popular in the early 1980s. Emerging from Cleveland, Ohio, the group's biggest hit songs include the Grammy Award-winning "Let It Whip" (1982), "Joystick" (1983), and "Let It All Blow" (1984). The name of the band is a portmanteau of the description "danceable jazz".

The Dazz Band are from my hometown. I am very luck to have been a Teenager lady in the 80s. We had the best music bands ever, lets see we had of course The Dazz Band, The Gap Band,The SOS Band, Midnight Starr,Con Funk Shun, Atlantic Starr,Cameo,Earth Wind & Fire, Klymaxx, and The Barkays,so many great bands. And the 70s,well the list would be too long for me to write all of the greatest Bands ever in the History of our Planet.

I remember watching this group at the Annual Glenville High School Talent Show. They were the featured kid group, without being featured. Meaning, everyone knew about this talented group before they were famous. I was a sophomore in high school. At the price of .75 cents for a ticket, I watched this talented, hungry group bring the house down. School Faculty and Students knew they were destined to be great. The Auditorium was packed, standing room included. All the money was donated back into Glenville High School extra- curriculum programs, in Cleveland, Ohio. Those were the good old days.

What an awesome memory! There's something wonderful about hearing bands like this on their way up. About 15 years ago I lived in Rockville, MD and my kids would come out from Kansas and stay for the summer with me. We'd go to shows all over the DC area and heard - different genre - bands like Cobra Starship, Chiodos, and Fall Out Boy before they were nationally known. I'm a metalhead and I love '70s/'80s R&B. I grew up in a little town in Kansas - I play keys and bass, and for part of my senior year in HS I played in a country outfit called Loose Change, and in a local R&B group called Sound System, at the same time. You probably can guess which band I enjoyed more - and, (ugh!) which one pulled in more money. Dropping a little Louis-Johnson-style 16th-note funk into a country song sure does make 'em pay attention, though

Even though it was a lip-sync, I just love how the Dazz Band still belted it out and gave it everything, playing up to the cameras with their tight choreography. BTW, they really were singing, it was just to dead mics and their record played over the loudspeakers with the live mics picking up the dancers' wild applause. This was why AB still had that live element even with the low budget and lip-sync restrictions.

I love this vintage performance. I was 11 years old when this first came out and it was all over the radio back then. What I like about this "American Bandstand" clip is that even through they are clearly lip-synching to a record, they are having a lot of fun anyway and it shows. :)

I grew up in those dayz and there is definitely a difference, The whole theme has changed. Music was a professional skill that was driven from the heart. Songs meant something real, not fantasy. Talent was driven to the front of the stage along with style and elegance. Songs were sung from the diaphragm and lungs and the words would stick you right in your soul. You not only heard it but you could literally feel it. The mere thought to compare real talent of this nature to anything past this period is just the lack of experiencing what it was like to live through this era. I have lived through all five decades of music transitions and the 70's-80's are simply untouchable.

Kevin Pritts,so true and I was lucky to have been a little girl in the 70s and a Teenager lady in the 80s. I experienced all of that great music, while growing up at that time. No disrespect towards this Generation, but I hardly listen to any of the 21st Century music. Sorry to say,but it is just not my style of music to listen to. I will always be a fan of the 70s & 80s music and I still listen to that music, that is why I am on here now watching music videos of the 70s & 80s.
