best strategies for people who do solo games is always stick with playing ranked if you have a skill level of archon and below as turbo and ability draft for advanced players. ranked queues you against players of the same skill level while turbo queues you with herald (idiot players who don't listen when given advice to) to divine skilled players. Take note that I am not saying you should have at least Legendary Rank to play on Turbo or Ability Draft, but I am saying your skills should be as good if not better than Advanced Players. You could be rankless but as long as you have Good map awareness, good game sense, good team coordination and anything that makes you a better player than an actual noob or newbie then you can definitely play in advanced game modes. Ranked helps you get better at the game while turbo only makes you become a terrible player if you already lack the skills as it's way harder in Turbo than Ranked or Normal games.

You'll notice common mistakes on players is that they don't sell the items in their backpack that have outlived their purpose especially when you have max items and still carry either a Magic Stick, Null Talisman, Bracer, Wraith Band, other boots you don't need once you get Boots of Travel, Bottle and other items. DO NOT KEEP ITEMS IN YOUR BACKPACK THAT YOU WOULD NEVER USE AGAIN. Additional gold is more useful at this point for buy backs or possibly to upgrade Aghanim's Scepter into Blessing or Moon Shard. Second mistake is most people don't take shard early or never at all on specific heroes who are in need of an early shard like Dazzle, Disruptor and other heroes who benefits early shard greatly. Lastly, on other games, most people who play carries like FV, Sniper, Drow Ranger and other heroes who has useful skills would get Mask of Madness which is terrible as for example FV needs to be able to use his skills to possible save himself from getting killed with Time Walk as well as not letting him take additional damage. Drow Ranger needs to be able to use silence to help in team fights or save herself by pushing enemies back but if you have Madness activated, all you can do is either die slowly while running away or while standing to fight with you taking more damage. Mask of Madness is one of the most terrible items you can get as being flexible with skills is way better to have than just simply attack speed.

Yeah, mask is only good for it's stats in fights, the ability is only really good when fighting only creeps or towers. It also reduces your armor by a lot, you're really fragile in a fight.
