The movie SO BAD, I didn't even realise it was an official Disney product. This is Disney's The Wild. An egregious copy of DreamWorks' Madagascar, whilst also taking all sorts of marks from their own Lion King. It's not a rip-off if you're taking from yourself! With all the more dated beats, unfortunate ironies and an overall unremarkable product - come join our chronological beat down as we run through a studio in 3D panic. This is Disney's TERRIBLE Madagascar Rip-Off...

Fun fact that people like to forget about this film is that it went into production before Madagascar did, but Madagascar got release into the cinemas first. So The Wild isn't really a rip off of Madagascar as many like to think.

It reminds me of how people sees _Antz_ as a _A Bug's Life_ rip-off despite the movie came out a month before _A Bug's Life_ released in the same year and they both have similar premises. Heck, even John Lasseter and Steve Jobs believed that their idea was stolen by Katzenburg.

What's interesting is that this film was in production months before Madagascar, the release dates then making it unfortunate timing (Madagascar in 2005 while Wild was in 2006) knowing that information, this could mean that both are either highly coincidental in similarities during production or concepts getting split and 2 Studios made films with similar concepts executed differently (:v

I hear in Europe this film is the 46th animated feature in replacement of Chicken Little I would much rather have this be our film to copy DreamWorks instead of Chicken Little trying and failing miserably to be like it not just because its spoofing Madagascar, but because we have a dad that cares so much about his kid in contrast to Buck Cluck

That's false. it is included as the 46th film in the series, replacing Dinosaur not Chicken little when looking at some European lists of animated Disney films. The Wild was actually a collaboration between Disney and C.O.R.E. Digital Pictures, which is a Canadian CGI studio, this was its first and only animated feature. C.O.R.E. had collaborated with Disney before, such as Flubber 1996 and Beverly Hills Chihuahua, but ultimately, C.O.R.E. went defunct in 2010, and left behind this blotch carrying the Disney banner.

My theory is that first they made this as a more serious movie, then Madagascar came out, and two correctioms were made to compete with Madagascar: 1) Humor was added (explaining why it looks rushed and out of place). 2) It was decided the island wouldn't be featured in marketing to avoid Madagascar comparissons. So they had to market the hell out of New York.

I have this thing on dvd. My parents and I saw Madascar on tv and we liked it enough to want to buy it on dvd but couldn't remember the title of the movie. Guess we fell for that... you know what.

The biggest thing I remember about this movie is that it has a love quarrel between a squirrel and a giraffe.

I very, VERY vaguely remember watching this as a toddler while I was, iirc, sick with a stomach bug. The one thing I remember? Thinking this movie was boring and awful, even as a literal toddler with low standards.

I prefer _The Wild_ over _Madagascar_ What was Madagascar's justification for existence anyway, because I failed to find what story or message they were going for? The entire film was basically pointless. Which movie is the rip-off again? Well, no matter, _Madagascar_ will always be stupid. With character designs like those, aimed higher than mediocre clearly wasn't a priority.

I mean as much as this being a rip-off aside, can I just ask if anyone else found it odd that this and Madagascar were set in the Central Park Zoo? I mean don't get me wrong, the CPZ is lovely and all, but it's way too small to fit most of the animals featured in either movie; the Bronx zoo is right there and it can fit all the animals featured in either film. NYC/S isn't just Manhattan (there's a whole other 4 boroughs in the city).

I didn’t have a lot of Disney movies growing up, but oddly enough I had this one on DVD as well as Madagascar. I remember thinking how dumb this movie was and it was the Walmart version of the Lion King and Madagascar. Really the only part I liked was Nigel being turned into a god, everything else just felt so off. Do the Lion King 2 please!

Take a shot every time a character is about to fall off a ledge. When I saw this movie, I think there were at least three scenes that reminded me of Mufasa hanging off the cliff.

The movie isn't even a rip-off, the story has similarities but it branches off significantly, just because the overall movie is bad and it's about a bunch of animals getting stuck on an island, they're vastly different films.
