DBD's Forgotten Few

According to some, not all Dead by Daylight survivors are created equally. While some survivors like Dwight, Feng, and Kate have massive player-bases, some characters seem to have been left behind by the larger DBD community... and maybe even by BHVR themselves. Which survivors deserve more love? Let's talk about it.

Zarina Kassir, Elodie Rakoto, and Haddie Kaur are the underrated trio of investigator badass women that deserve more love. The three of them have such cool backstories and don’t get as much cosmetics as the more popular survivors.

People tend to go for characters with a lot of cosmetics because they like to customize there characters to their liking and the characters on the last list have little to no cosmetics because know one plays them, I feel like if BHVR gave them more cosmetics they would have more people playing them.

Very true! It also becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy on BHVR’s part, too. They make few quality cosmetics for certain characters and then say, “But not many people are playing these characters!” That being said, it’s hard to keep 30+ different characters in the loop so I don’t blame the occasional slack. Would love to see a shift towards some of these survivors, though!

He’s the teacher you’d want to have growing up, at any point during your education, because he genuinely CARES about people, not just his students.

as a ringu chapter main i was FUCKING STOKED to see yoichi got a new sweater! like it's probably his best for stealth because of how bright and vibrant his upper clothing is. like seriously the only way to not get spotted and chased every time is by prestiging him to get his bloody cosmetics. i think that could be part of the reason! also lack of cosmetics i feel kills most character picks!

Adam for me has easily pioneered the idea of unique and wacky survivor perks that are genuinely fun to play with. Laurie certainly came out with some new concepts but they were all horribly balanced. Adam? He came out with perks where you throw a fucking pebble, hurt your teammates to heal them better, and probably one of the biggest risk/reward survivor perks ever made. Adam is a total chad. Autodidact and Diversion may not be strong, but they make up for it by being pure, dumb fun. As for Haddie, I generally just don’t understand the dislike for her face. I think she looks fine, hell even moderately attractive. I also really enjoy her perks. Zarina? An SJW? Bold of one to assume your average Twitter SJW does hard investigative reporting and documentation. Zarina is a badass. Proud Jeff main.

I think the reason Zarina and Elodie are lesser popular because of the killers they come with; I had Deathslinger for months before I realised he came with a survivor cos all the promo for that DLC was just him (also there were a few DLCs at that time which were JUST killers or survivors) and Elodie came with Twins.... enough said Since then Zarina has easily been my most played survivor since then, she has some really nice simple clothes that aren't too flashy but are eye catching enough to be interesting

One MASSIVE flaw I have that prevents me from maining Haddie: the fact that she only has 3 head cosmetics in the store... That only change the colour of her earrings and nothing else. Also Zarina was my first ever survivor main~ (it has now shifted to Jeff and Yui, tho)

I've begun seeing more and more Zarinas since Off The Record got buffed, and I also feel I see a lot more Tapp and Bill than most people do. I've seen less Bills than before, but I still see a lot. I play Tapp a bit but not much, I just like him because Saw is one of my fav movie franchises. And I've been a Zarina main since she released because of her lore, base cosmetics for stealth, quiet noises and I just like everything about her. But I didn't see many of her in games. She was never as rare as Jeff or Quinton, but I see a lot more of her. Shes finally getting the love she deserves. My fav survivor is on the rise

If we ever get "Speedo Quentin" he will immediately become one of the most popular characters in the game. Because my feeling is Vitorrio was guaranteed instant success by being hot and having a shirtless cosmetic. @ツ - I even had some thoughts about Quentin's Ugly Sweater. It's Obviously going to be Red and Green Striped, the back will have the words to Freddy's Lullaby. While the middle of the front will depict a To Go Coffee Cup and Caffiene Pills, the collar and waist will be trimmed with a series of snowflakes (because Christmas) and "ZZZ" (because shorthand for sleeping). In regards to a Glen Skin, I wouldn't hate it... but it would absolutely have to be Glen's Pyjamas.

Another thing that takes some people away from survivors like Jeff, Bill, and Yoichi is that, some people actually *do* value having a bit of stealth capabilities in their survivors, and with Bill being incredibly loud, Yoichi standing out like a sore thumb with his *High Visibility Jacket*, and Jeff being very loud and having a big frame in general, makes it hard for some to enjoy them very much... BHVR pls give us the mobile exclusive Yoichi skin i want to play him so bad but his only cosmetics are so bad for stealth aaaa

as far as Jeff perks go I absolutely LOVE distortion and breakdown. Honestly I love distortion so much its been in my perma build since before the first buff. Its a really great info perk on what the killer is running and their add ons. Breakdown is great cause you get over 2min of a broken hook. I just wish it counted towards sabo challenges.

I’m a p76 Yoichi main who decided to main him since the Ringu PTB released. He’s a cute guy, yellow is my favourite colour so his jacket works for me, and as someone who cares about skincare I gotta say his skin looks amazing. He’s also got pretty realistic pain sounds even if they sound kinda goofy sometimes. I love that he got a Christmas sweater, even though the devs didn’t advertise it literally at all, so hopefully more cosmetics will make people appreciate my boy more.

Why people should play Adam and Jeff They are in fact the most wholesome survivors out of the bunches, Adam took his students to a concert, no other teacher would do that. Jeff is just a man living with dog, he saved the dog, but it was in fact the dog whom saved him Elodie She’s a queen, she beautiful, and has good cosmetics Zarina She has unique cosmetics, she’s also the first I brought, And yes OTR and FTP are underrated and are good perks these will save lives Haddie If you like badass characters she is for you, her scares show this, she has a unique character model which most female characters don’t have, and if you like a girl with some cake Haddie is your girl, while she doesn’t have much customization right now I hope she gets some cool shit Jonah Boon experimental is underrated and is a extremely useful perk, while it’s Rare to get value due to the way maps are but when you do it’s so satisfying, overcome needs a buff because the amount of sprint is short then the other speed perks, but you can still get value from time to time.NC is not useless but mostly unneeded since most people don’t miss skill check but I think you could still get value from time to time

Main reason why nobody plays the male characters on this list: They are too loud and Iron Will got nerfed. But since the Devs said, that they want to have every character the same volume, that should fix itself in some way. Also male characters are often quite large and have fewer places to hide (also Jeff main here). And one can never forget that all these characters only have very few cosmetics to begin with. Haddie only had bad yellow cosmetics with barely any change, no greens and only a purple set. The only other cosmetic was a Twitch Prime code.

I think one thing that can affect a survivors popularity is how popular their killer is most unpopular survivors also have unpopular killers that were always unpopular or got nerfed and then became unpopular

Possibly, but I’m not sure about that. Kate is extremely popular but Clown isn’t, Feng is much more popular than Doctor, and in a role reversal Legion is hugely popular but Jeff isn’t. I don’t know how much an entire chapter affects a survivor’s popularity, but I’d love to test this theory further! :)

Adam lack of purchasable cosmetics is the real problem, maybe people stopped playing him for this reason, that said is not that unpopular like you say, I see a normal amount of Adam (obviously not as much as Meg) For Tapp, we can say he is MORE unpopular than Adam, i see 1 every 100 matches, but I can imagine that the reason is that he is a licensed character who didn't reached the success of the RE chapters, so people don't spend money on him

A big problem I've noticed is that the popular characters get skins almost every update, while the unpopular ones are lucky to get A SINGLE SKIN in a year. Not talking about any licensed characters that either don't have any already or that just don't have many options to grab from. It also doesn't help when the skins the unpopular characters have are bad, further driving people away from them. But we gotta get the 29th recolor of a skin Nea already has, or put Feng in another licensed character's clothes

In my personal exprience, Bill is used a lot (at least 2nd group), so I would put him in the second tier. Det. Tapps (especially since I got his Beat-cop cosmetic) and Adam (Many of his cosmetics have a Lovecraftian-vibe) I used often, but I will agree I don't come across others using them often. I play killer a lot, and Yoichi's bright yellow jacket makes him easy to spot. Any bright cosmetic or charm (like the Auric cell charm) makes my job finding you so much easier.

i personally enjoy these lesser picked characters a lot. Jonah, Bill, Haddie, Jeff, Adam & Tapp are 6 of my personal favorites from this list, but i also like the others too. It's always nice to play as a character you don't see very often, cause they're won't be doubles of those survivors in lobbies XD and plus I'm sure people will be shocked to see those survivors in those lobbies.

as a high high prestige yoichi main, i gotta appreciate being a rarity💀💀 i also always loved jeff as we share the same taste in music and the love for dogs, but i think it's the disadvantage of his loud voice and injured noises is what turns people more against him.

Bill was my very first main in dbd, when I first started playing, I had to get all the perks, but I played Bill the most, even when I was playing different characters, eventually I switched to Laurie and now I have her at prestige 61.

I main a bunch of characters in DBD, and one of them is Ash. I just love to play as Ash because I love using Mettle of Man in meme builds. I am also a huge fan of the Evil Dead series and Ash is just groovy when I play him.

people choose the characters with more cosmetics, and bhvr gives cosmetics to the most played characters... its a never ending cycle. i wish haddie had better cosmetics. shes so cool and i wanna play her more often but her cosmetic options are just... so bad. she has her default, the masquerade outfit, the (linked) diving outfit and the twitch prime outfit i missed out on. she got a sweater too, i guess, but i just wanna be able to dress her up in some jeans and maybe a nice jacket. its all i want

I came in around the 5th anniversary and one of the first big pop-ups on the menu was something about something and as a reward they gave everybody enough iri-shards to buy a character and my first pick was easily Zarina (and then eventually Elodie too). They have a specific aesthetic that drew me in initially, and lore wise they both have a very Lara Croft esque vibe and it fit what I liked at the time, I had hundreds of hours in just the newer TR games alone and they made me feel welcome in a way.

Jonah needs better Cosmetics, he looks like a GTA NPC, but I still love him and his few good cosmetics he own. (And I like his complicatet lore, his Lore is very interesting and thats the reason why jonah is an interesting chara too) Jonah and Vittorio are my main survivor. Also Jeff, Ace, Felix, Yoichi, Jake and Adam Btw I was very happy to hear that you like Jonah and his lore. Not many do and honestly I was afraid to come to his appearance in his video XD

@@DasFood Exactly that. That also makes it one of the most realistic. And the fact that he had a bit more drama in his life than Claudette or Dwight because of his profession also makes sense. Also that everything that happens there is sometimes really bad. I imagine the critical part of his lore as the plot of a series. Where more time is taken to explain to the viewer how it all works. I think on this basis people would hate him less, maybe even like him and have understanding. I often have the feeling that people don't really understand his lore either and have a huge black and white thinking about it. (Personally, I would be happy to see a video about Jonah.. xD)

@@annareifer2249 I fell into the Jonah hate mob regarding his lore a while ago before I realized I missed a teensy weensy crucial bit of his lore that said he had nightmares about what he did. I’ve grown to appreciate Jonah more over time, even regarding his appearance. I’m a sucker for intricately designed button-up shirts so Jonah just oozes style for me in the clothes department.

Chains of Hate was the first DLC I bought because I wanted Zarina. I main her, but I have to admit I hate most of her outfits and my eyes have occasionally wandered to Feng and Mikaela and their wardrobes wistfully. As a main, I can say I rarely see other Zarinas in my matches so maybe she's more popular on some servers than others (for those saying they see a lot of her.)

I kinda started maining Quentin as a joke back in the day, he was my first p3 and nobody really seemed to like him so I started playing him more to avoid double ups (I also just like all his perks). Then I watched the movie and like, he's the best character in that film. (his actor also plays Colin in Jennifer's body and can you IMAGINE a cosmetic crossover??) Anyway he's a good boy 10/10 level him up as soon as I get access to any new perks

I think Elodie also suffered from the association with her chapter. The Binding of Kin chapter was one of the most rushed and bug filled DLC launches to date. The killer was borderline unplayable and had an annoying power, there was no new map, and she was bugged at launch to literally bust eardrums and blow speakers. By the time they fixed the sound bug, the novelty of the new character had worn off and no one was really willing to give her a chance esepcially considering the hype for the next chapter had already begun.

I’m a Cheryl / Rebecca main personally. I try to branch out to others occasionally but I always fall back on them. I definitely think I’ll be playing a wider range now. Also I would definitely play Quinton more if his prestige cosmetic still had the Freddy claw marks on his face since I’m a big Nightmare on Elm Street fan

i did play for a couple years and i did finally bought zarina. i dont really think about her i only want that perk for the people. i did play as her in a while then i already fell in love with her, her clothes is very good for stealth, she is quiet and accurate voice-acting unlike other female survivors with very dramatic and moaning sounds, her buff off the record and for the people perks are great (buff red herring plz), and she looks really beautiful. buy her and play as her now (yall will not regrets it)

While I have a big spot for Ash and I love AvED Ash, I still think AoD Ash would've been the best option as a character. I know there might've been lot of issues to make that happen, but he would've had more perk and cosmetic potential. AoD Ash was the peak of his entire character development.

I agree with everyone on this list except for Zarina. I see her, bare minimum, once a day, which I unfortunately can’t even really say for the rest of the survivors on this list (fellow Jeff main pain). Typically I’d say I usually see a Zarina once every three games at least. Sometimes it’s more than that, sometimes it’s less. I also see her more frequently than Jane, and personally I’d switch their places in terms of popularity. Either way, fun video as always Food :) It’s good to highlight the survivors that don’t see a lot of attention and love.

Love how a chunk of my mains are the Underdogs. Early on when playing DBD, a characters perks was a big part for me before the prestige change. Prepping for that, anyone that wasn't in my top 3-4 survivors, had one prestige dumped into them, so when the change came, they ranked up to prestige 3 (or more). Since then, pretty much any character that gets a skin that resonates in me, is fair game to choose. Mains: Nea, Felix, Zarina, Steve, Elodie, Quentin. That tan super winter coat Jeff recently got brought him into use for me. 😍 Skins are a big sell. Infamously known toxic survivors, big pass. 😅
