DBS CEO Piyush Gupta to step down; Tan Su Shan to take the job | Full press conference

DBS chief executive Piyush Gupta will step down from his position when he retires on Mar 28 next year, announced the bank on Aug 7. He will be succeeded by Ms Tan Su Shan, who has been appointed as deputy CEO, in addition to her current role as Group Head of Institutional Banking. More details: cna.asia/3yk4V9n

POSB Neighbour First; Banker 2nd. I opened my account at POSB Marine Parade where I could drop by as a Neighbour and do my banking. Now DBS has closed down tbe POSB Marine Parade Branch and consolidated with DBS Parkway Parade. It is no longer possible to walk-in as a Neighbour. Need to stand outside in a queue or directed to an impersonal Machine. While this will leads to cost cutting, and increase in productivity and profitability. It is no longer the Neighbour Bank. Has this over reliance on machines & automation led DBS to fall foul of Client service and strictures passed by MAS? Suggest the New CEO, Board & Management Team listen to the Client and change Direction.

Finally, local born singaporean as CEO after so many years of "foreign talent", hired so many people from India as IT professional and cutting costs by reduced ATM machines in whole island. Making consumers inconvenience till MAS stepped in last Nov 2023 barring it from making non-essential IT changes. I think DBS has been performing robustly. Stock price is up 48% over the past 5 years. While things are going well, we should defer to the wisdom of those who have achieved it until there is reason to believe otherwise. No need to always complain and ask for reasoning. If you wish to be a contributor, work as hard as them and rise to the top of the industry to have a say. This logic is applied in our Republican system of government, where we elect the best in our society to make hard decisions for the whole.

So who will take up the vacant positions? - give back to Sporeans? When was there ever a green light given - for Sporeans to hold a monopoly on IT jobs? Which decade / company was this witnessed in? Who were doing the project / contractual IT work right from the start - Sporeans? Where would the adequate number of Sporeans have learnt the required IT skills - in the first place? How many ridiculous hoops did one have to jump through - before being able to access uni here / relevant training (if any)? Was opportunity provided by "dear leaders" - did they invest in us? Or was the plan all along to emplace tactical suppresive obstacles and blockades - to keep us out?
