That might sound weird on paper, but it was to showcase just how little Frieza thinks of anyone besides himself. Probably the most loyal servant he ever had, in addition to being one of the strongest and definitely the most intelligent considering he's the leader of his own squad, and he still looks at him like one would a domesticated pet. The original actor quit after the namek saga, they bought a new guy in who quit during the cell saga, I personally didn't think he was a good fit. They then brought in another guy called Kirby Morrow who finished the series and was actually better then the second guy, he also played Cyclops in the Xmen Evolution cartoon. He sadly drank himself to death a couple of years ago.

I remember when DBZ went on a long break and Goku knocked out recoome and it showed him battling Jeice and Burter the next episode. We were so hype for the new episodes. When they came back the voices were different as well as the music and i couldnt put my finger on it. Im glad they made the change to funimation. Bruce falconers score was legendary.
