He was and Is Ichigo's true rival and for someone who is not aware he has surpassed all the Espadas including Cien Granz and Ulquiorra as a matter of fact Kenpachi wants to have a serious battle with him over Harribel and Nel and Harribel is afraid to fight Grimmjow. So yeah in the upcoming light novels we might get Kenpachi vs Grimmjow.

We don’t know if Grimmjow is more powerful than Nel and Halibel, that information has not been confirmed. Halibel being afraid of calling herself ruler in front of him does not necessarily mean she fears his power alone, it could be that she does not want to cause unnecessary destruction among the remaining arrancars by triggering Grimmjow’s obsession with being King. Kenpachi wanting to fight Grimmjow doesn’t imply he is stronger than the two tres espada either, Kenny is a battle maniac, you can bet he’s going to recognize another one and he’s going to want to fight him instead of the two rather peaceful females. Point is: We don’t know who the strongest living espada is.

Embodiment of destruction I I don’t entirely disagree, but my point was that Kenpachi would choose to fight the one who’d actually fight him and provide him the most fun. What do you think Nel and Halibel would do if Kenpachi challenged them? Nel would literally have flashbacks of Nnoitora, she doesn’t like fighting for no reason. Grimmjow on the other hand would almost certainly fight him right away. So that leads me back to my point that we don’t know if Grimmjow is the strongest espada based on the single fact that Kenpachi wants to fight him.

Grimmjow has always been an impersonation of the reckless deeply complexed man, who hasn't found his place in the world. His need to prove himself as the strongest is derived from a need of attention. Even in his backstory he was a loner. Unlike Ulquiorra who enjoyed being a loner, having that trait embedded in his way of being, Grimmjow had always wanted to be a social creature(this is my opinion though). His lack of social skills is mirrored in the desire to assert his position as the king. After his feud with Ichigo, his face expression changes, he starts to feel empathy and a connection with the main character for a while. He knows he is not lonely, fact which is further engraved in the persistence with which Ichigo tries to protect him... In the last arc, I believe his perception upon the world changed. It is true that his demeanor is still the one of a child who tries to prove himself but his character is different. He silently cares for his comrades such as Nel with whom he has maybe formed a relationship of some sort. Of course he mumbles to himself that he is the best but he listens to the woman as any happy and trustworthy man would do. Finally, as far as I'm concerned, Grimmjow was not left out of the character development process, which is happening to most important characters, however his is a more subtle change, as his behaviour is the same but he subtly seems to have found his place in the world.

I always loved Grimmjow and Ichigo's interactions because grimmjow brought out a side of Ichigo we never really got to see much. Ichigo's enjoyment of battle. Every time we see Ichigo in a fight he is always serious and goes for ending his enemy within his first hit, but against grimmjow, Ichigo never ended their fight with an insta kill technique. This is shown in their final match Ichigo relentlessly cut and stabbed grimmjow and grimmjow reciprocated, they were both like kings of the jungle fully immersed in the brutality of their battle.They both wanted to bring eachother down.

He's literally what hollow ichigo is like manifested. They both carry Ichigo kurosaki's violent instinct for battle. My favourite rival of Ichigo kurosaki as he's basically the one that gave Ichigo kurosaki a strong inspiration to control his hollow powers and get better as a shinigami. I only wish masked Ichigo can use sonido and cero.

I’ve always related to Grimmjow in a way, that feeling of “I have to be the best, if I’m not I might as well be the worst” and the hatred of being looked down upon even in pity yet no matter how much we try we can’t seem to truly reach the top even though it’s always in sight and if we do believe we’re at the top someone shows up to knock us back down. In the end though, we get up again and again, always eager to prove our worth, not to others, but to ourselves

Grimmjow reminds me a lot of Ichigo's Hollow or rather Zangetsu. They both fight what they consider their instinct. Both fight for survival even if in some cases they have to find a reason to fight. For Grimmjow simple reasons like Hollow vs. Shinigami are enough. For White Zangetsu it's that Ichigo is always ending up in a situation that could kill all three of them (Ichigo, White Zangetsu and Black Zangetsu). So while I think Ulquorra, as the other well-known Espada, would be reasonable to make a video about next, I think White Ichigo would be nice since they are pretty similar to each other. Unless filler is involved, I don't think there is much to say about him.

What I love about Grimmjow is that he truly has the aspects of a panther. He knows he's an apex predator. Unlike Nnoitra, he can gain respect for his enemy. The way he sits during meetings, nonchalantly, gives big cat vibes that says, "I'm the boss, not you" while still recognizing that Aizen is his master. And I think thats why Aizen likes to have him around. I think that Aizen is secretly a cat-person. He sees Grimmjow as his stray cat rescue. But does not hesitate to discipline him when he acts out. Grimmjow in short, is the bad boy that you love to love and love to hate.

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate how badass a name like Jaegerjaquez is. Now, i love their rivalry because of how both of them grow. That smile Ichigo has and shares with Grimmjow before he leave for the first time, is exactly the conflict his inner hallow has with him. Then boom, it starts to take over. It displays how Ichigo really does like to fight and won't admit it (Ichigo, the guy who was picked on but never backed down from the fight, smiling). Then, you get the famous King and Horse speech as he starts to control his inner hallow explaining all that. His hallow refuses to submit to that. Fighting Grimmjow that last time, he finally admits that he came here to beat everyone after Grimmjow taunts him saying he coulda have left with Orihime already. Then he can use his hallow mast as long as he wants. It's amazing how Kubo managed to develop each character with a rivalry that makes both characters likable for an awesome final fight.

Grimmjow definitely was driven by his inferiority complex, similar to Nnoitra in some ways. Kenpachi fights for the love of fighting but Grimmjow seems to fight for fear of what will happen if he stops fighting, but just like Zaraki, Grimmjow wastes no time in using the chaos that has broken out in Las Noches to pursue his own agenda which is not aligned with Aizen, just as Kenpachi did the in SS arc. Their loyalty to their respective organizations goes only as far as it allows the two to pursue their own ends. If it comes into conflict with what they personally want they have no problem disregarding orders and even attacking comrades if they get in the way. Love Grimmjow, thanks for the analysis.

great analysis but I also wish you talked about the part where he beats up loly and menoly and tells Orihime that he was repaying the favor because she had healed his arm. He also tells her to heal her own injuries before taking her to heal Ichigo. I thought those interactions with Orihime were interesting and it would have been nice if you analyzed those as well. Also, his outfit in the final arc was different so it would have been nice if you talked about that change and what that could say about his development as a character.

I feel this isn't right. The theme of Bleach, as far as I watched it, was that friendship was stronger than death itself. Grimmjow was born alone. He fought with the fear of regression and that instinct of survival overtook his personality. He NEEDED to be strong to exist. He was small, he was underestimated, he was looked down on as lacking the one thing that his survival instinct made him believe he needed. Strength. When he was finally given the ability to lead a group of companions, he felt empowered, he felt he had a place in the world, as a leader, as a king, even if it was a king of the lonely, guidelines dead. But when he found that his companions could not come with him, that his army could not follow him into battle, he took pieces of their soul with him...because they were his purpose. Without his purpose, he was left with nothing but the lie, that he needed to be the strongest in order to be the king. I don't think he meant it when he called them cowards, and I think that was his way of pushing them away, because he knew he couldn't take them further. IF he was a man of destruction and nothing else, he would have killed them...but he didn't, he took them with him, making them a permanent part of him, to remember them by...to remember the time when he was a King, something he missed when he became a 6. He then becomes dedicated, mercilessly so, to become the strongest one day--- but he doesn't have a reason beyond that primal need to fight....unless deep down inside, it is to honor those who he lost and consumed in order to get to where he was, to truly make himself and a king of the lost and swallowed. But--- Ichigo points out the truth, he isn't the strongest and its not that he may never grow stronger, its that he was at his best when he was seeking to grow stronger, just as he was when he traveled back with his companions, always hungry, always seeking more. And thus, the jaw on his face comes into meaning--- The JAW is the HUNGRY FOR MORE! He doesn't embody destruction, he embodies tenacity itself! And that's why he's the best character in bleach....thank you! Thank you very much. Goodnight. >///

So glad you started this series and I hope you will continue it. I'm excited for any of the characters you pick next, though I do hope that you'll be able to do Urahara pretty soon. One of the reasons I like Grimmjow so much is his 'I dont't care about consequences' attitude, and his ruthlessness. He does whatever he wants because he disregards any form of authority (unless that authority can actually kill him - Aizen); which, when you think about, is the essence of his personality. I'm really bummed out by the lack of his screentime in the last arc; but then again, most of the characters I like received the same treatment. The way Grimmjow interacted with Ichigo in the last arc reminds me a bit of Zaraki. He wanted to fight Ichigo, even though their conflict was in many ways over, and a very big reason for that may be that he simply enjoyed the fights.

I wouldn't even think to pay attention to what aspects of a character's outfit say of their own personality, I recently watched a video saying that Bleach (specifically the Big 3) had it's time and now people are looking for new anime's to replicate and fill the holes that any of those big 3 left behind, (Which they're all mostly failing) but often time when I watch Jaymes, Clyde, Seth, etc, and of course you, even rereading or rewatching on my own I'm still often learning something new of Bleach and I absolutely love it. I would attribute this to most of us humans similar to Aizen in Chair-sama are growing simply as time passes in even the most subtle ways as we're constantly exposing our minds to new stuff throughout our day if not in additon to or just simply thinking to ourselves we process things differently each time maybe picking up on something we didn't before, and now the anime's coming back that will not only give us a new medium to further process and/or interpret things, but the very content might be changed, enhanced, added to leading to even more new stuff to potentially reach a conclusion of even if you're not an anime only fan. A lot to say just from realizing the characterization outfits give I know. That's not even mentioning how fashionable Kubo's outfit designs are in and out of Splash stuff! I guess Ulquiorra is the next logical character to delve into because he's the next step in Ichigo's "lack of growth." That means another drawing!

Right? I mean Bleach had a rushed ening and not everything was explained as it should be. But when we talk about "Fall of..." we should talk about Naruto. The Ending was stereotypical, the supposely final Badguy was thrown out the window for some suprise -Villian-shit with no personality (and in my opinion they should even have kept Tobi/Obito as the main villian as he made more sense than Madaras Shit-Show of a plan) and the worst is the bullshit they made with Boruto. Watched even 12-15 episodes of this garbage and it´s like all the Naruto Filler-arcs combined... It´s hard to argue against that One Piece is brilliant and the superior piece of art compared to Bleach but Naruto? Nope!

Im kinda surprised that you didn't touch upon Grimmjow saving Orihime from the 2 Arrancar girls (forgot their names) and killed them to repay Orihime for healing him, even though she was only ordered to do so by Aizen. Or the fact that even though the Hollows he traveled with asked to be eaten by him, apparently he refused to do so because theyre his Fraccion. He comes off as a wild beast, but there's an underlying layer of respect and honor there.

The idea of Bleach not having "deep" characters is utterly foreign to me. Byakuya is one of the most interesting characters I've seen in the medium of anime/manga, and his journey throughout the series is one of the most satisfying ones I've ever come across.

Byakuya is a deep character your delusional he showed no signs of questioning if Rukia deserves to die he only existed to be a obstacle for Ichigo to overcome but by that time kubo had no intention of killing him off so the only solution was to make up a story about him secretly having doubts such crappy writing can't believe i ever liked this GARBAGE do me a favor and watch Inuyasha it has much deeper characters and a far more competent author

Well, it's a good thing none of that was ever confirmed whatsoever, and that Byakuya ended up being a character whose oaths - both to Hisana and to his parents - were properly explored and arrived at their natural conclusions by the end of the story.
