I feel like As Nodt is the personification of some of Kubo’s personal demons. Anxiety, panic attacks, chronic pain, existential dread. He’s such a great villain because he draws from lived experience.

Nope, all quincy must return to the son of soul king Yhwach.. they don't belong in the cycle of death and rebirth hence why there are no quincy that have turned into shinigami, human or hollow after their deaths because after they died they go back inside Yhwach..

I like to think that Rukia's Zanpakuto isn't an ICE type, but rather a Temperature type. Toshiro's Hyorinmaru is an ice type, he can manifest and control ice, but only a normal type of ice, it's cold, yea, but not excessively so. But Rukia only manifests and controls ice as a byproduct of her ability to control the dropping of temperature itself. Genryusai was 2000+ years old, but what if his was the same. He didn't manifest and control fire, but the Rise in temperature, which, as a byproduct, just produced fire. Imagine a 2000 year old Rukia, who has vastly expanded and mastered her Zanpakuto's abilities, rivaling that of Genryusai.

I think I know why he asks Yhwach for forgiveness at the end. Yhwach is in universe Jesus and the one way to get to heaven is to accept his sacrifice so he can forgive your sins. He’s asking for that forgiveness so he doesn’t end up in hell. Truly a man of God

One of the few sternritters who we actually got to know a bit about. I still think he was taken out way to early & more could have been done with him especially since Rukia & Byakuya didn't do anything after the As Nodt fight. Here is me hoping they extend his fight a little like they did with Renji & Mask cause for someone who got introduced as an absolute menace we didn't see much of him . Also hope we get to see more of Rukia's.Bankai Vs As Nodt since this is her last big fight of the series

Thinking about As Nodt’s monologue on fear, I almost feel like it was a missed opportunity that he didn’t meet Hisagi. They could have a great debate on whether fear makes you weaker or if it can be motivation to be stronger. Äs Nödt is my favorite Sternritter as his Schrift reminds me of my favorite horror movie villain Freddy Krueger, my #1 favorite Stephen King monster Pennywise the Dancing Clown/Robert "Bob" Gray/IT, and my 2nd favorite Batman villain Doctor Johnathan Crane a.k.a. The Scarecrow. Even read his quotes in the manga and subs (until the anime gets English Dubbed) in the portrayal of John Noble, the actor who voiced Scarecrow in Batman: Arkham Knight. "How can the world know fear - true dread - when there is you? A stalwart knight, ever ready to slay monsters. Fear isn’t true biology, Batman. It’s more than instinct. You know, As Nodt is the second Bleach character to have multiple eyes in his strongest form, the first one was the 7th Espada, Zommari Rureaux. Now that I think about it, both characters seem to have similarities to a Yu-Gi-Oh Dual Monster, specifically, One-Thousand Eyes Restrict. Think about it, like One-Thousand Eyes Restrict, both Zommari and As Nodt use multiple eyes in order to affect their opponents. Sure the way they use said eyes are different, but the principal is the same. Am I the only one who noticed that?

Ngl, his backstory actually really made me reconsider my opinion on the character as a whole. As Nodt is just a dude with the same existential fears we all have, only he turned it into his weapon. I mean, it's like horror movie fanatics in the real world (myself included): not fearful of the casual, "everyday" kind of Hollywood cinematic horror, but still possessing a natural, human fear of the unknown. He was stuck in a hospital bed day in and day out with nothing but time to think before he succumbed to what was assumedly a terminal disease... Pretty sad, even though the dude ended up being sorta sadistic n' weird.

Both of As Nodt's voices in the anime really bring out the creep factor of this character. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka gives us a menacing deep voice that strikes fear into many, while Elijah Ungvary has this unsettling monotone that is very unnerving to hear. I do look forward to this week's episode where he gets to fight Rukia and we see him become susceptible to his own power.
