A D-Series Honda Civic with an intake, exhaust, and header is the textbook example of cheap Civic fun! So today we install a DC Sports Ceramic One-Piece Header to see if the butt dyno notices a difference! VTEC Engaged!
The year is 2021 and we are still installing headers on D-Series Honda's. Life is GOOD! haha! Installing a header on a Civic is nothing new to the world, but does it really make a difference? To find out I teamed up with DC Sports to install a One-Piece 4-2-1 Ceramic Header on my D16Y8. As a kid, I remember installing my first DC header on my D16Y7 (non vtec) along with intake an exhaust. However, it's been so long that I forgot what that actually felt like. So this time around on my SOHC Vtec motor, I wanted to see if the addition of Vtec was more noticeable with a header. To my suprise, it did make a subtle (but noticeable) difference in power and sound. My Yonaka Catback exhaust produces a deeper growl and my crossover is much more noticeable!
Now I know many of you are wondering, Anthony why are you continuing to modify the D16 motor? Well, as much as I would love to swap the car TODAY, I'm trying to make the most of the motor while it's in the car and make content that's most relatable to YOU! In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy 40 mpg's and plan out exactly what I want to do. All good things come with time right? Anyway, Thank you to DC Sports for letting me relive a bit of my youth and beautifying my engine bay!

4-2-1 or 4-1?! There is some slightly incorrect information when I’m explaining the header design. This particular header is a 4-2-1 with a one piece design versus the old model 2 piece style 4-2-1. There is ALSO a 4-1 design that wasn’t available at the time I ordered this one. I hate putting out incorrect information so just wanted to clear it up that this is a traditional 4-2-1. I guess my eyes and brain just weren’t working that day. Regardless, enjoy the video!

You should look into a goautoworks turbo kit for the D-series! Cheaper than a swap and FANTASTIC quality, I personally have a 98 ex sedan, as a college kid, this is gonna be the way I go!

I PUT THE 4-2-1 DNA HEADERS ON MY 94 ACCORD AND SHE SOUNDS MEAN! I’VE DEFINITELY NOTICED THE SMALL GAINS, I HAVE SOME EBAY COLD AIR INTAKE, AFTERMARKET EXHAUST AND RED PAINTED CALIPERS WITH SOME RIMS FROM LES SCHWAB TIRES, ITS STILL SLOW BUT ITS NEAT TO SEE HOW MUCH DISCOUNTED AFTERMARKET PARTS CAN MAKE THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE

The d series can make alot of power with just pistons rods and eBay turbo kit. No where have I found that cheap k series swap that was cheaper than building a d series and turboing it. Once done with the swap you still have to get turbo and hondata or something equivalent to program the tune so cost effective to not swap if all your looking for is about 500 hp.d series have been pushed to 900+ hp and low 9s and high 8s. Now if your looking for a maximum hp na engine and not on a budget then yea swapping makes sense. But if your looking for big power on budget build the d

But +50mpg!!! I currently own a 89 Dx CRX, It was stock 1.5 DPFI when I got it. Over the last 8 years it's gone from DPFI to MPFI, Then Mini-Me SOHC Vtec head, Then DOHC B17a.

That's correct, that header gives high-end and a 4-2-1 gives better low and maybe even into mid-range. I plan on putting the DC Sports 4-2-1 on my Civic in the near future if you want to see how that works out.

I understand what you're doing here, but the ONLY way that I could make my single cam any fun was to boost it, and then it was alot of fun. It didn't make much power on the stock internals, but it was reliable, it was fairly fast (it would beat modified WRXs and Mazdaspeed 3s at the strip), and the turbo made it so much more enjoyable to daily drive. I eventually swapped in a fully built LSVTEC and it currently makes 612 whp. My Civic is a 1997 EJ8 coupe.

It's cheaper to boost the D series than to swap it. I've looked. A forged bottom end is $500 WITH pistons from Speedfactory and you're going to want to use the no notch forged con rods. By the time you swap it, boost it and all, you would have spent K series money. A turbo D is the same price as an NA LS-VTEC on high compression.

Removing cat will definitely give it that little push it needs to make it a night and day difference but it will throw check engine light on stock ecu. I think vtec cracks good on your motor due to it being very healthy. Usually more work out motors don’t have that aggressive of a crossover. But K is always the way.

I've got a 92 Si that I added that same 4-2-1 one piece DC Sports header to, did about 2 years ago. My experience putting it on was almost identical to yours, down to the scratches. Totally worth it, though. More response and pull. Also it weighs nearly 25lbs less than the stock cast iron manifold and I swear the front end feels a little more responsive in turns. D series engines are a great combination of performance and efficiency and I have no desire to swap mine, it's just too good as it is.

Like your videos. I've had D, B swap and K series swap, you're in fact "dumping money" on that D. Hey, if you enjoy it and, getting paid to make content, do your thing.

Bruh, I have a B16A2 on my car and the crossover sound wierdly similar to my car, and the B16 has the loudest crossover out pf all the 90’s Hondas🤣🤣. Also I love this build. My favorite and cleanest EJ8 on KZbin❤️

D series ain't bad, they can make power just like a B series and are cheaper to build up to 500hp than any other engine. Hell I'd say it's still cheaper to build a D16 to any power level than dealing with a swap.

When you go to swap the motor. I'd happily will buy the D16 and pay shipping. i own a crx and only want an OEM plus setup. motors are scarce now.

Not saying that you shouldn't K-swap it, im just saying that a B-16a2 is the best route for you to go. Wether its na or turbo (based on where you live na would be very difficult to make power) I think that for simplicity's sake, you should go B. Its a lot cleaner and you really don't need any aftermarket parts for it.

I went to get a 02 sensor wrench like you did at orileys and the dude insided he tried to use the air-impact. He tore the cord right off. I got a new 02 sensor that day lmao. Idaho man.

Having a 7th gen with the D17A2 is so much PAIN. Even though it's the better of the D17s, there is almost nothing available for it except a couple air intakes and random ebay headers that all are 4-1 and look fairly similar to the stock one. You guys get cams and intake manifolds and everything, our only good stage 1 cam is no longer available and our stock intake manifold is so weird and made of plastic that no one seems to have even tried to make an aftermarket one. Some guys have hacked Y8 manifolds on but it's a job. All DC Sports has for us is a shift knob and license plate frame lmao 😭

I also have a JDM J32A six speed manual swapped CG1 Accord with a GT3582 turbo running on an AEM Series II 30-6051 standalone and it pulls SO hard for such a big car. It's only running about 10 psi, but it's enough to make close to or slightly more than 500 whp.
