I followed this nest for a couple of years. I’ve seen it with a foot of snow on it and watched the progression of spring. There was a lot of drama and then I lost track of it. I can’t imagine being able to climb up there so this is a real treat! It’s always been an amazing vantage point. I’ll be excited to see him fledge.

The wing slaps from the little guy sounded pretty solid ,"touch me and see what you get" . Even at that young age it ried to defend itself . Reminded me of Foghorn Leghorn , I'm a chicken hawk you a chicken ? And seeing mom or dad's shadow several times was cool , they were close by and keeping an eye on things .

Extraordinary to watch. I was a little nervous for the chick at first but I could tell he was in good hands. The guy was so gentle and calming with his voice and taking his time. Tremendous work being done.

I am amazed by this! This young man is well-suited for this job. I am very impressed with his demeanor and patience. He seems to enjoy his job. I have watched this a few times, and it doesn't cease to amaze me. I think DC9 did a great job too, showing how big he is by spreading his wings. That makes me smile every time. Just want to point that out. But wouldn’t it cause less stress & fear to the eaglet if it’s not put in a bag & taken for idk how long. I was just wondering.

Oh my gosh! This has to be one of the best you've done Lady Hawk. DC9 just sat at his feet and looked at him. When he went to pick him up he got a few wing slaps. Stayed a lot calmer then I thought.

They don't band here in Fl. where I 'am because they say the band's can get caught on thing's or cut into the leg . Every where is different ....

No need as the population is doing so well. Banding only needs to happen when a study group is studying them and environmental changes. Best to leave them alone if at all possible so a smaller group is used to study. Bless the scientists who continue to monitor the populations and study how we can help them populate more again.

ow wow! This was so amazing. I never seen an eagle get banded. I just assumed it was done in the nest. The baby seemed interested and I kept wondering what was going through his thoughts. And can I say what an amazing job the man did. It takes great skills to climb and not jeopardize the tree and nest. Who could have a bad day at work climbing trees, petting baby eagles and hanging out in the nest?? LOL Great video!!

Excellent footage! The young bander was so skilled and patient with DC9. It was delightful to watch. It will be enlightening to find out the results of the blood test pertaining to effects of pollutants in this young eagle. The Anacosta River was previously one of the most polluted in the US ☹but lots of money, effort & litigation has gone to improvements. Last I heard it was still off limits to swimming and fish consumption. Will be looking for that documentary. TY LH for sharing this special video. 🤍

That’s my question too. What happens if the parents show up and defend the baby by attacking the man? It’s a big risk as it is. How do they know the parents won’t come? So cute baby! I hate that they have to band them but I understand some of it too. I just hope it’s not one of this big flaps I saw on another eagles wings, that was awful to see.

It's nice to have tracking data on these magnificent birds, but, I must say that as careful as he was, I cringed watching that bag swinging with the eaglet inside. I hope they can find a better way to do this procedure, in the future. Thanks, Lady Hawk, for the video ❣️

In Fairfax , VA just down the road from DC by the Occoquan River there is a cell phone tower. A few years ago a pair of eagles took over the tower with a massive nest. The cell phone company put up another tower not far from the first tower. I don't know if they had to but still good they did it. Awesome see eagles fly
