I really appreciate you taking us through the process of model building. It really helps to see someone actually cutting and filing on a shell. Also wanted to let you know I was able to find you again through your MRH ad. Best of luck with this channel.

Thanks for letting me know about the MRH ad. I want to let people know that I'm still around and am just doing videos on a different channel. I'm glad you're enjoying the new build series. Thanks for watching!

Yeah! Modeling is back! Enjoyed it. I don't know if you worry about length of video or not. I like longer ones myself if you're taking a poll.
@DanielCortopassi6 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you liked the video. Thanks for letting me know about the length. With the time I have available right now, I can either produce shorter episodes more often or longer ones less often. I'm not sure if I'll always do shorter episodes. It may depend on what makes sense, like how this episode mostly focused on stripping paint. Thanks for watching!

I have had that same issue with the lettering on cars and engines. I am looking forward to this series. I have always enjoyed your detailing videos. I admire your attention to detail.
@DanielCortopassi6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the model, sometimes you can remove the lettering without harming the paint. Not that Atlas B30-7 though. Talk about tough lettering! Thanks for watching!

I found an old article by Brian Banna (MRH Nov 2001, pg58) where he demonstrates using a #405 bristle brush in a Dremel, in the alcohol bath, to strip Kato units. Looks easy and effective.
@DanielCortopassi6 жыл бұрын
Alcohol is the one chemical that might be okay on Kato shells. I might give it a try myself one of these days and see how it works. Thanks for watching!
@tp62126 жыл бұрын
Gack! I typo'd, and it's Nov 2011, not 2001 :P issuu.com/mr-hobbyist/docs/mrh11-11-nov2011-ol pg 58 is right, tho. 90% alcohol. Brush head IN the bath.

As usual, great video Dan. I've got several GP38's I'm going to be stripping, repainting and detailing per your superlative video guidance. Thanks so much. By the way - looking forward to more of your music and artwork in future episodes!

Very well done (camera angles/lighting/etc.) as I really got the 'feel' for the steps you were taking. Your videos (like this one) have helped me improve at my own modeling skills, and do things (like.. drill with tiny bits) I wouldn't have tried to tackle before - thank you :)

You're welcome. I think maybe shooting from the same side of the table that I'm on helps, too, as it's the same perspective you'd see if you were doing it yourself. On that other channel it was shot from across the table, which made it harder on me, too, since I had to do everything backwards. Thanks for watching!
@tp62126 жыл бұрын
Though sometimes subtle (you did such a fine job on your previous demonstrations) a difference, yes, the perspective is better now. At least for me it is. And I'm 100% in favor of easier! XD

More content like this please! Train nomenclature is still difficult for me, so anytime you can name/identify what is what, that will certainly help (like when talking about dynamic braking and other parts/details - point to the specific part you're talking about). I'm soon to repaint/decal an Atlas ALCO S2 loosely based on an IH Union Line Rwy with decals I got from HighBall Graphics. How do you know where to find (who sells) all of your detail parts? I'm still learning trains after a short lifetime in R/C airplanes.
@DanielCortopassi6 жыл бұрын
I plan to call out the parts that I'm using as I continue this series. The next episode will be about fans. I've been using detail parts from Details West, Detail Associates, Cannon, Precision Scale, and others for years. I discovered those companies through articles in the hobby press many years ago. I'm fortunate enough to have a well stocked train oriented hobby shop near me, but I also get parts from eBay. Some online retailers also carry some parts, though they can be hard to find. Thanks for watching!

Hi Dan....Im very excited to watch and follow this build. What would you recommend to strip down a Kato shell??
@DanielCortopassi5 жыл бұрын
Personally I use a hobby sandblaster. If you haven't seen one it looks kind of like an airbrush but shoots aluminum oxide particles that remove paint but don't hurt the plastic. It's a little tedious. Some people have said 91% isopropyl alcohol works on Kato. I haven't tried that yet. I wouldn't recommend any of the commercial paint strippers, and certainly not brake fluid or some such. I've had Kato plastic become brittle and crack using chemicals. Also, sometimes you can find undecorated Kato shells on eBay or at swap meets. I've been lucky enough to score a couple of those, that I may just use to replace the painted shell that came with the model. I can always sell the painted shell on eBay to recoup some of the money. Thanks for watching!

@DanielCortopassi3 жыл бұрын
