Excellent beginner’s tips! 5:45 I want to add that the good ol punch to the groin also works from behind the enemy. While it is trickier to pull of, the enemy won‘t retaliate if the punch doesn’t land immediately.

My favorite mechanic is definitely the hold-up. It's a bit annoying for the dog tags. Sometimes, I slipped up on the more stern soldiers who won't give up the tag so easily. I accidentally put up my weapon lots of times when I was still a beginner, and they go into alert status. Good times.

MGS1 was the game myself and my dad played when I was a kid [we also played Tomb Raider] as I gotten older and gotten a PS2 I played MGS2 and showed my dad on how to play the game and I'm looking forward to playing the mast collection on Tuesday. My part even got me a gamecube while in college along with the Resident evil games after a week of having a gamecube I got Twin snakes and OMFG its like playing the OG with HD mods. I will admit the game does have ALOT of downtime during FMV's [Watch them are they talk about the lore of MGS & so much more] I love to watch how snake reacts to different character and after beating a boss I feel as I'm feeling the same pain and sorrow of the bosses [Mantis got me good] I'll be playin them on PC

Cool thanks man. I've spent over 500 hours on mgs3. Once the vol.1 came out I replayed one, then two, then 3 and got so addicted. I even made a official guide and been hand drawinging a complete map xD. But taking a break to replay 2 i forgot what the hell im doing. but thanks for the tips! I'm so used to grabbing enemies i forgot how hard and HOW LONG it takes to choke enemies out in mgs2 specially without killing them.

My first game on MGS I played was Phantom Pain. Loved the gameplay in terms of controls, AI etc but found the open world aspect kinda just there to say it's open world. Don't feel like it benefits the game personally. So I'm very excited to play the older ones on PS5

It's cool that the engine is flexible enough to allow such tricks, but I like to take it nice and steady. In terms of skill, I'm an average player at best and I don't like to feel like I'm in a competition or I have to meet a quota or something. One note, as a hardcore fan of the series I personally do not feel Twin Snakes or the digital graphic novel portray the story of Metal Gear Solid 1 in a satisfactory or accurate way and should be avoided for a better experience if you can handle it. Not trying to gatekeep anyone, all experiences are valid and if you just prefer one over the other as a newcomer I respect that. I just personally have many gripes with those media adaptations of the story and world and feel they are not replacements at all.

Huh.. for me MGS1 controls were the most basic and easiest to understand. It takes me about three hours to adjust to MGS2 and 3 controls each time I take a few months break from them.

I found the controls in 2 extremely difficult without the pressure sensitive buttons of the PS2. Ended up rebinding L3 and X/square to L2 on my Steamdeck.

As far as I know that is indeed how it will work in the Master Collection since we won’t have access to pressure sensitive buttons. I actually think clicking the thumb stick in is more reliable than pressure sensitivity.

Hi, anyone else experiencing coolant not spraying when you press square? I reported it but they still haven’t fixed it… thanks. I even tried starting over, redownloading to no avail…

Because the coolant is not used with square like other weapons, you spray it pushing the right analog stick forward. Although it can be a little confusing exception and weird control design, it is literally written in the item description when you press R2 and highlight it (note that iirc, on top of immobilizing guards for a bit, you can also use the coolant to wake them up when you knock them down - to hold them up for the dog tag for exemple - and even extinguish fires with it)

@@vigminitaur5359 No problem, I also got stuck for an instant replaying it lol don’t know why it is a different command like that, doesn’t really serve any purpose and you can’t do anything else with the spray equipped anyway. Don’t see any reason for it to be remapped now, maybe it is a pressure sensitive control to apply different intensity with the spray (what the item description implies) but it does not serve any purpose as you can’t overuse it and you also have infinite coolant "ammo" so it is not like you could run out of it either. If someone has any input on that, maybe there is something we are overlooking. As far as I know, the controls that have changed have to do with the absence of pressure sensitive front buttons on the ps4 and 5 so now you lower your weapon pressing the left analog stick and run aiming pressing L1.
