Always great videos Ray. Regarding Sense 2 vs. Pixel Watch, I don't think they intended to make Sense 2 bad, that's just how it ended up. I'm guessing it was slow removal of features one at a time after the acquisition, and they decided to release the watch anyway as an homage to whoever worked on it. But they never stopped to ask if they should release it, objectively, vs. Sense 1. I think my Pixel watch pre-order is going to have to go back unopened and I'll keep my sense 1 for another year. I'll miss out on all the google goodness for sure, and the design is really nice. But, the gap on fitbit features vs. sense 1, no temp sensor, and for an LTE version where I use AOD and track a workout day, I think battery life will be half a day rather than a full day and that just won't work. Will wait on more reviews but that's my guess. Too bad for me, I really wanted to go with the PIxel Watch. Hoping there's a V2 with lower battery consumption (=newer processor), temp senor, fitbit feature gap smaller and if they do a larger size, that will get a bigger battery too, enough to support AOD + GPS tracking + LTE for a day. Keep up the great work!!

Beautiful looking watch and a good start, but it feels like a rough draft. Personally, I've tried Samsung, Fitbit, and Polar. Unless you need a smartwatch for notifications, which most of us really don't, a few jobs like nurses do since they can't take their cell phones on the floor - but a lot of them are just glorified heart rate monitors. I've actually gone to putting a little Polar heart rate monitor on the underside of my NATO strap with my traditional Swiss watch. I always find it faster and more efficient, although not as cool, to just pull my cell phone out of my pocket for texting and searching. And of course photos! Excellent review!

Some mixed feelings here. It's good that the Premium subscription benefits are very limited and do not seem like a added benefit, however I could see that maybe any new features (if and when they come) could be added in the subscription instead of the base application. The bands are proprietary and annoying. Garmin and Polar offer just regular 20-22mm bands which are a watch industry standard for years and years. However, i am happy to see they did not use any proprietary charger like Fitbit does and where each model Fitbit has a different charger. GPS accuracy is much better than I expected, but I wonder how sleep tracking will be. I'm hoping the Quantified Scientist will do an in depth review of this. Accessories not being able to pair, I expected as it's a smartwatch and activity tracker first, a sport watch second. However the Garmin Venu 2 series does support this flawlessly so maybe the Pixel Watch 2 will improve on it. Did you test afib and ECG or coming later? I'm wondering if it works well. About filling the gaps you mentioned... Always buy tech for what it is now, not for what it can be with an update later on. We never know for sure, we don't know if it will be free, and we don't know if Google even will continue developing watches. they have a bad track record of killing of services they said they were committed to (Stadia being the latest victim) EDIT: apparently the wireless charging is not Qi compatible and thus some proprietary charging, sadly. This is out of scope of the video, but the thing that gets me about Fitbit is the lack of dark mode in the mobile app, espeically since they offer sleep meditations as part of Fitbit Premium, so when you open the app to do a sleep meditation you're instantly blasted by a screen of white light.

You mention restlessness isn't done by competitors, but it is in the Garmin app if you tap a button. It sort of just shows restless periods and is kinda useless, not sure if the Pixel Watch presents this better, but it's there for free.

I got my wife and myself the Google Watch and changing the band isn't that difficult. Unsure if people are getting the concept of how to remove and attach the proprietary bands. I personally find it much easier and more secured than Apple's method. One major part I like about this is the Fitbit integration and seeing how accurate the heart rate compared to its competitors; very close on how it reads with the chest straps. Plus, the design is great for formal wear and doesn't get in the way wearing it with a jacket. Give Google a few years and I'm sure they'll fix all the known issues. Their first take is a good start.

It is so annoying that companies are now thinking it’s ok to make you pay a monthly subscription to use core functionalities of the device you just paid a premium for. Oura ring and now google?! If I had to pay £780 for my garmin to then have to pay £12pm just to get the data, no thanks. And if they ever start doing that then it will be coming straight off my wrist into ebay. These companies should work off the whoop business model or at least heavily subsidise the hardware if you have to pay to use the software. Makes it a little more manageable to swallow, not that I would probably ever do that as it’s exactly what put me off the whoop system in the first place. People really need to vote with their wallets and make it obvious to these guys that this type of business models aren’t ok. It’s worked in the gaming world.

The other side of this coin is, some people don't need or want the 'extra' details. My girlfriend does not need a 'sport watch' and has no interest in detailed analysis of her steps or sleep. She has a fitbit that she doesn't really like, so she doesn't wear it, but has expressed some interest in the Pixel Watch with the integrated fitbit. She occasionally goes for a walk, and likes to track her steps. The sleep monitoring is an added bonus, but she doesn't even always wear it to bed. If she had to pay 'a little more' for advanced metrics, it would probably not be worth the upgrade.

I don't understand why everybody's complaining about the band. If you had to change your band every time you had to charge your watch then it would be an issue. But I buy a watch I then change the band 6 months later I decide to change the band again what's the big deal yes it's a difficult process every 6 months every 3 months maybe but to complain like it's every time you had to charge the watch you have to take the band off it's preposterous

The reason I bought it (besides being a huge Google fanboy) is that I want to be able to have a watch (I don't wear one) that I can send texts and calls from while at work (I'm a server, so we can't have phones on us, but nothing about watches ;)

On My gw3 when going out to excercise if the screen was bright in sunlight so I can see the display, the watch would get too hot and I had to wait for the watch to cool down . before being able to track of my exercise is this an issue with the pixel watch.

I don't see them dropping the way the band attaches especially with $130 and $200 metal bands coming out. All the bands will continue to be compatible for future versions just like Apple Watch bands are. Why are you showering with it? That's the best time to charge and top off.

Many thanks for the review ! For me, it's clearly a no go. For this price, you have to deal with so many compromises, paywall and missing stuff that other watches don't have for the same price. Comparing this watch to fitbit is doing a favor to the pixel watch. If this pixel watch has to face other watches in the market, even other Google products, I don't think it can stand. Very disappointing, especially when you see the last google smartphones and the extra softwares built in, I was expecting something like that with this watch... We will see how the next generations will looks like.

I agree. To me it feels like the pixel 6 phone, a good rough draft. But it's not a real competitor. I went from a pixel 6, to a s22 plus. Once I shoved Bixby into the closet so to speak, the Samsung phone feels so much more refined and thought out. Same with the watches.

It sounds like someone on r/GooglePixel confirmed you can wireless charge without the puck, even utilizing Pixel phone's battery assist features to share between phone and watch. Product compatibility with the *shape* of the watch would be a concern, though. I can't imagine it will be all that stable on some charging stands.

What is the best way to integrate any activity that i do on my Garmin Forerunner, with the pixel watch / Fitbit eco system? I always thought these smartwatches are very redundant when you have a smartphone. which you also need when using a smartwatch to have full usage of it? I mean, I rather watch on my phone for messages or weather or whatever than fiddling on this tiny watch. Or, just use something like the Pixel Buds, which have such functionality too, and almost everybody uses some kind of earphones for at least music. So there is that. When I wanted something for fitness I would buy a dedicated fitness band, they are much more capable than smartwatches. Especially, this SW costs almost 400 bucks? Way too overpriced if you ask me.

@@LukasToya you’re probably not understanding the English vernacular. Google advertises “one day”. That doesn’t mean 24 hours. They specifically avoid that bc the one day moniker means morning to night. Apple uses “hours” bc that means it’s capable of approximately a day and a half INCLUDING sleeping before needing a charge.

@@seanlinehan1136 But... 18 hours is 3/4 of a day though, not 1,5 and Google is advertising up to 24 hours, not all-day. Still. Both are quite inferior to Garmin and the likes. You trade a great UI and features, for limited battery life I guess. 🤷🏼
