The reason the rocket steering cursor moved right when you looked right is because HMD was the sight, and driving the the cursor. It assumes you're always looking at a target, and tells you which way to steer the aircraft to get on target.

Head tracker is a good start for orienting your brain bucket in the general direction of the target (CUED LOS), but on a windy day, simply put your LOS on the CUED LOS, and steer the aircraft left or right as indicated by the I beam (rocket steering cursor). When the LOS, CUED LOS, and rocket steering cursor are on top of each other, pull the trigger. The Cueing Dots tell you which way to look to get on the CUED LOS when you're looking away from the target.

Hey guys, please don't take this as criticism. Just an observation. . Noticed that in interior footage, the rotor shadows appear to move on the TADS sensor housing at the same rate as the blades. In reality, the pilot or any observer viewing with the naked eye (or even HMD) would not see a moving shadow UNLESS they were viewing via a camera where the frame rate would determine how fast that shadow (and the blades) appear to move. Is that correct?

Maybe I missed it, but why was the diamond to the left of the waypoint acquisition marker but the rockets still seemed to hit dead on?
@MattWagner2 жыл бұрын
Because while the aircraft is in aerodynamic trim, the flight vector is off to the right (note the FPV). So, you need to compensate a bit. If there is wind, you'd also adjust your offset.
@willhestpt2 жыл бұрын
Love the SFX!! Does the apache have natural slip so it will always have fpv on right?
@MattWagner2 жыл бұрын
That is how helicopters fly. It is just much more obvious in the AH-64 because of the FPV.
@Phvpark2 жыл бұрын
all the helicopters has slip when flying especially in low speeds, even fixed aircraft has it with strong winds but much more less. fly the MI-24 and i guarantee its 5x worse, at least in the Apache the FPV helps to maintain center flight when doing runs

I don't get it at all ! I don't understand what you put on what when you fire. So there is the solid diamond -> axis of the chopper the dotted cross -> position of the enemy the fixed cross -> your line of sight (what you are looking at) the I-beam -> the way the rockets will travel ^^^ Is this correct ? @12:50 the I-beam is not pointing towards the enemy, but you still fire. And what has the pilot line of sight got to do with anything, besides distance ?

So to enter COOP the CPG only has to WAS up the rockets and then lase the target with the TADS?
@radsy58212 жыл бұрын
So having watched Casmo's video and this one, on the first run your ranging was being provided by Nav (N2.1 at the point of firing) but you were aiming short of that. So you'd expect the rockets to land a tiny bit longer than your aimpoint, which is what happened. And your I-beam was offset left at firing, so you'd expect the rockets to land a little right of the aimpoint, which is also what happened. You use the right side of the aimpoint cross, with the I-beam aligned on the left side, so the "error" in the aimpoint offset (centre cross to I-beam) offsets the impact point to the right side of the cross. Is my understanding right?
@MattWagner2 жыл бұрын

I have a question. Does the Apache fly more like the Blackhawk or the Huey? What I mean is, the Blackhawk's flight control system compensates for the most part for rotor torque, not requiring the pilot to have to constantly input pedal to counter that rotor torque. Whereas the Huey requires more pedal for more collective. When I fly the Blackhawk, I can pretty much let go of the controls and it stays on heading for the most part and I am wondering if the Apache is similar in it's flight characteristics. Thanks.
