My father was a real Blue Noser. P51D #4413849 "Little Buster." Flew with Preddy, Whisner, JC Meyer, Don Bryan, etc. on many missions just as you described. DFC, AM, and Presidential Unit Citation. Thanks for the memories.

You _really_ wanted that 109 :) Textbook use of the K-14. Agree that it's sad when you don't bring one home. I just finished mission 3 and lost #4. No idea what happened to him. Need to watch Tacview.

Great campaign and bonus mission as usual. I always thought the DCS Mustang guns were unrealistically weak. You pumped a lot of bullets in that last 109 and it kept on going. I have experienced that numerous times even at optimal firing distances from the enemy plane. I've complained to DCS about this. The planes you actually downed took less bullets but still way too many bullets had to be fired IMHO. Makes it a bit of a pain to use realistic ammo because you run out too quickly and then you have nothing else to really do.

That may be. I always think about Preddy who downed 6 aircraft in one mission. He must have been a helluva shot.... then again my aim was really poor due to the fact that I was using a twist stick instead of my regular rudder pedals. The 109 didn’t go down because the last 10 seconds of fire went all over the place, dispersion was crazy as if I melted the barrels. This I think is unrealistic and a big hindrance.

@@ReflectedSimulations One thing I've noticed in the replays is that the new damage model never properly just kills the pilot. I would need combined arms to test this but would be very curious about e.g. shots to the armoured seat, shots to exposed pilot etc. .50cal at point blank should go right through the seat.

I pumped a bunch of 20mm rounds in a Me 109 (from a Spitfire) and it only went down because it eventually ran out of gas. Me? If you get 2-3 rounds of 20mm from German flak, you're done.

This campaign is REALLY fun and really immersive-when it works. I have had problems in the 3rd and 4th missions for sure in which my squad just stops on the runway and will not take off, so I have to run the mission alone. Only a few enemies so I was able to take a couple out before the others (left? I guess?) I'm diving into this because I"ve finally got a great system i9-13600 Intel and rtx 4090 Alienware system with 32G ram and I'm running multithreaded DCS (maybe causing problems?) . Got a nice new Virpil throttle, VK stick and I'm running in VR with Quest 2 and oculus link cable. LOVE the immersion of the radio casts while climbing to altitude. In mission 4 I even orbited the field until 7:45am but the squad just stood motionless in line to take off. Had that happen several times in a row after restarts , etc. until I just gave up and ran the mission. Moving on to the 5th mission.

@@negativghostrdr yes, it’s all core AI coding and behavior. Not something that can be fixed in the mission editor. You can send a track to the forums in the AI bugs thread. Btw whenever this happens to me the AI ends up taking off after 5-6 minutes.

I set my convergence to the horizon, and it seems I am not hurting him much when I hit him. What could be wrong?

If you set your convergence to the horizon, the bullets never converge so they don't pack a punch. Set it to 300 yards, and hit the e/a from as close to 300 yards as possible. That's when all your bullets will hit inside a very small box.

You don’t AFAIK, you need to buy it yourself from the dcs store / or steam store if you have the steam version. Alternatively someone can buy it for you as a gift. But they cannot transfer their own copy if I’m not mistaken.

39:32 You spent WAY too much time, and energy engaging this enemy. At this point, with his landing gear down, he's no longer a threat to the bombers. So, you're just wasting fuel, and ammunition. As soon as you saw his landing gear fail, you should have flown back to the bombers to protect them. Also, by continuing to engage an enemy that is no longer a threat, you ran out of ammo causing your buddies to be potentially shot down.
