This training video kickstarted me in to DCS about 5 years ago. In my opinion it’s still one of the best tutorials out there. I really wish you’d do some training vids for the F/A-18!

Wow, this tutorial series for the F-15C is one of the greatest things I have ever watched. Infact it’s so amazing, it makes me almost wanna cry knowing this is the last one. I have severe ADD which makes me struggle to focus while learning, but I never felt like I missed anything for the entire duration of all three videos. Your info is relevant almost 10 years later, your examples are wonderful, the process you give is perfect, you teach info in the most memorable way, and you also teach some very useful info outside the context of the radar that really helps, (while also throwing in some comedy that really brings a good mood). I feel like I was being told this info from someone right in front of me, and even after flying this plane for abt a year, I feel like I have never really taken control until this moment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and giving people the ability to shape their wings in the F-15C.

I've recommended your vids for the F-15 to the three people I've introduced the game to. They are difficult to fault in any way! Incredibly easy to follow your instruction, you got me up and running a couple of years ago on the F-15 in a matter of hours. Thank you so much for your time and effort! Easily the best tutorials I've seen so far. Legend.

I need to get to grips with the Flanker at some point, I certainly know where to start learning. I wish you could do a tutorial for the Viggen's Rb 15!

HI new DCS player here, absolutely great tutorial thanks. Somewhere in these 3 tutorial videos you mention being able to switch between low, medium and high settings regarding freq or power of the radar beam ? Is this setting still available in dcs 1.5.x in the F15 and what is it called in the control tab ? Is the PFR setting for the su-27 the same thing ? -Found the setting in the control tab at sensors: Radar Pulse Frequency Repeat Select.

I have a question, that either I missed or was a little ambiguous. When you are in TWS and have multiple targets bugged, do you need to wait between firing? I always thought you could just fire them off one after the other (presuming they are all still bugged), but in your video you often count down until "active" before firing off the next one, so I wasn't sure if that was necessary or you were just doing it a slightly slower tempo for training purposes.
@Scoogwie7 жыл бұрын
He has to wait for the target to become in range before he'll fire the missle, other wise they won't have enough energy to harass an evading bandit.
@thewritingwriterof898 жыл бұрын
An absolutely stellar tutorial that I cannot praise enough. This has really helped me get my head around the F-15C, my first air-to-air airplane in DCS. One question, though - given that STT provides constant tracking information, shouldn't that make a semi-active AMRAAM more accurate, given that it is receiving constant updates? TWS mode, while it provides awesome SA, isn't tracking as well, right? It's tracking multiple targets at once, so wouldn't there be a reduced refresh time on the display, a shortcoming that would also be reflected in the data then sent to the missile? Seems less useful for high G-maneuvering targets. Extrapolating a little further, TWS seems ideal for a flight lead, keeping SA while handing targets to other elements for engagement with STT.
@Flankertrainingcom8 жыл бұрын
+thewritingwriterof89 I think you misunderstand what an AMRAAM is. It is not semi-active. It is an active radar homing missile. A TWS launch makes sense because, at the time of launch, the target data is uploaded to the missile which uses its inertial guidance system to travel toward the computed intercept point. Periodically, target updates are provided from TWS while the missile is in flight. But these updates are simply to get the missile into the target's neighborhood with its own radar facing in the right direction to spot the target. When the missile judges itself to be with range of its own onboard radar, it turns it on and uses it for "kill" guidance. So there is no need for faster refresh times. An AMRAAM is not following your radar's reflected energy at all.
@thewritingwriterof898 жыл бұрын
+Flankertraining.com Ah, I see now. So, really the entire point of the AN/AGP-63 in this case is just to point the AMRAAM in the right direction? This, opposed to semi-active, which really does require guidance from the aircraft radar?
@Flankertrainingcom8 жыл бұрын
thewritingwriterof89 Correct in the case of AMRAAMs. And it can also provide the required STT guidance for semi-active missiles like the AIM-7.

also, have any tips for remembering the a-10c hotas commands? bad enough i have to remember the pre-flight for my own aircraft in real life, yet alone the pre-flight for the UH-1 and A-10 hotas commands lol.
@Flankertrainingcom10 жыл бұрын
Nope. And if you ever discover a way, please let me know. As far as I'm concerned, the only way to remember is to use it hours and hours each day until you're relying on muscle memory and not memory itself.
@Munky33210 жыл бұрын
Flankertraining.com lol thanks. yea, i'm thinking about making flash cards. out in the sand right now as a KC-10 engineer, got a bit of time for each flight where i can maybe get some study on. the X52 kinda makes it harder to learn them because a muscle memory might be used twice due to shift commands. soon as i get home i'm buying a warthog too, which means i'm going to have to re-learn the muscle memory. maybe i can come up with some acronyms while im at it lol. any chance of going more in depth on the SU/mig radar, with examples? i kind of get how it works, and i'm going to do my own testing, but if you have any tips that you've picked up on it that'd be awesome.

+KleytenHD Missile range depends on a number of factors: aspect, closure rate, altitude, etc. You'll get your longest ranges at high altitude with a high rate of closure rate head on.

+KleytenHD DCS has totally screwed up the AIM-120's. Max range for reliable firing (w/o installing the Missile Mod) for AIM-120C is 15 miles. Should be alot more than 15 miles. You get targeting computer says your within range when you hit 20 miles...but you'll never hit a aircraft that far away with the AIM-120C in DCS. Just the way it is unfortunately. In DCS the Russian aircraft (SU's and Mig's) actually have a advantage in missile range. They can fire from 20-30 miles. But American aircraft have a advantage in "fire and forget" missiles like the AIM 120. AIM-120 has been severely hamstringed though compared to real world performance. I've installed a DCS missile mod everybody seems to be using for more realistic missile performance for ALL missiles. Helps alittle bit...but keep in mind most competitive DCS servers don't allow mods for obvious reasons. Ppl tend to cheat when given a inch.

Glad they've helped. Things are fine now, though I don't have the time for simming that I used to. So it will probably be awhile before I get back to the F-15. Right now I've been focusing more on my first love, the Su-27.

+Flankertraining.com totally. i was designing a basic sim-pit but couldn't decide on screen setup. on a 1440p 27" monitor now, but its just not doing it for me. I was set up to purchase a projector setup, but the price is just too overwhelming and the resolutions are still too low. waiting for a good VR set might be my only option, and the only option that pleases me so far is StarVR with its 5k total resolution (which will unfortunately be split down to about 2.5k per eye). since i put everyhting on hold i've basically stopped simming almost completely until i can get a good small compac easy to use simpit setup.
