Cap, you don't know me but I feel like I know you somewhat having followed you for so long through thick and thin... this is one of the best payware aircraft reviews that I have ever seen. Thank you. Everything a customer and sim pilot wants and needs to know. Thank you.

"This is not like flying a jet, you have to maintain the engine. The engine is constantly trying to blow itself up and your job is to ah... keep it from blowing itself up." HAHA! I just started in DCS in FEB and started warbirds 3 days ago. I have to say this is the most accurate description of warbirds I have ever heard. Thanks for the info and the great videos!!! Keep up the good work!!!

Pretty much summed up my thoughts on the Jug. I love the Stang, but something about the Jug is just so much more engaging.

Being able to control your turbo-super charger adds and whole new dimension. Flying the FW190 seems so boring by comparison.

Listened to the interview with Nick Grey last night on a drive (another 30-40 hours of material with him would be welcome). Made me consider this plane for my first DCS warbird, and today this video is published. Goodbye money.

Yes, good textures can really make a model pop, even texture tricks done to real life models (Blackwashing to make contrasts) can make a huge difference.

Thanks Cap! It’s my favourite warbird always has been. I love how the F16 Falcon copied the bubble canopy so similar!

I was considering P-51 or this one... but because TF-51D is already there for free (and I love the flying most, so guns are just a bonus) I went for P-47D - and I love it! It is an incredible plane and one incredible module. It has turbo and more levers in the throttle quadrant - just for the fun of it! It has a lot of performance, but can be also reasonably docile. It was the top #1 in Mooch's list of the best fighers ever. What else can I say? Is it perfect? No, there seems to be totally minor issues, but for DCS standard, this is a perfect module. Even the training is detailed with a lot of information. Great stuff, great module, great value. And good review. It's hard to score this one any lower.

It's a beautiful mod, easy to learn but difficult to master. It's not as stable a ground attack gun platform as say the FW 190 A8, or maybe even the Mustang, but work hard and get trim right before your attack run and in my experience, those 8 machine guns will deal just as much damage as a Mosquito. Acurate bombing is an art form (that I have yet to master) but as with all warbirds, practice makes perfect. As for air to air, I find that if you treat it as an energy fighter and only attack when you have the advantage, then it can be very effective, especially if your gunnery is on point (which mine isn't). Make one or two passes and then GTFO whilst your opponent is turning and you still have the energy. A great module ED 👏🏻

This has become my favorite WW2 plane in DCS and historically, lol. Once I understood the turbo boost lever and how its used I never go under 10k anymore, lol. At altitude this bird can dog fight. I pretty much agree with everything else you said about it except I think she floats around a bit much. Ive never put my finger on exactly what was missing and youre right, no aero sounds. Stalling a Piper Tomahawk and a Cherokee was loud. All sorts of rattling going on. I can only imagine how much louder these birds are. Seems a pretty big omission, I hope they fix it at some point. I hadnt planned on buying this bird but eventually did and can only kick myself for not watching this video a year ago. Thanks dude! Painted dark blue I can easily pretend this is a F6F. I used the FW190A Zero pint jobs at Tinian and Im have a fun Pacific battle.

In response to RCs comment on the flight model, the P-47s airframe was arguably overbuilt with two thicker wing spars, there are very few examples of it breaking up under aerodynamic load compared to any other warbird. No clue how accurately that is reflected in this model though

Great. Module. Feels heavy, stable, lazy in acceleration unless boost is engaged. Cockpit in the best looking [ in same league with Mosquito ]. Many different skins available. Complex to operate. Money well spent!

This plane is so much more fun than I thought it would be. I still love the stang but I love this bird a LOT more than I used to. This radio is hard coded in mission editor, how did they really do it? Was this the same kind of radio they used then"? I always assumed it was DCS being DCS.

Having very strong wings, as fighters of that era had, they would not flex as modern composite materials do, and therefore would not be creaking and groaning as you seem to be expecting them to Cap. The sound efx aren't really lacking - irl the engine is LOUD and you would not hear much else anyway. Maybe at idle you might hear tyre rumble over a rough runway, and you wouldn't hear much from the gear retraction as all the mechanicals are in the wings not the fuselage. Most of what you think you should be hearing would be felt instead.
@antongrahn1499
@antongrahn1499 3 жыл бұрын
Its true that they would be felt, but that does not apply to sim/game pilots. Making it audio instead seems like a good solution.
@jlothrop91
@jlothrop91 3 жыл бұрын
That is exactly the point - normally it would be *felt*. Simmers can't feel the plane so you need the audio to give you that feedback.

I have to correct you on one point at least and that is a real pilot feels it if one wing or maybe both wings beginn to stall. It depends on the Aircraft really. I flew an Ultralight Plane in which you dont hear or feel anything until you are upside down in a blink of an eye. So it depends on the plane, not sure how the real plane would react in this case but keep in mind that its possible that you dont get any pre warning.

When you talk about sound, you should also note the dobbler effect at the fly by (module or DCS?)
@rubiconnn
@rubiconnn 3 жыл бұрын
The doppler effect is modeled by the game engine itself, not the module. You can mod in a really crappy sounding aircraft and it'll still have great doppler effect to the sound.

reference dogfighting, i would just disagree inasmuch as it IS a great dogfighter at HIGH altitudes. Get up at 20,000 feet or higher and you can out turn most other aircraft as well as maintain energy so much better. Problem is - of course- that just like fist fights, dogfights end up on the ground at some point.

@@maxbest20s11 yeah…if only could force the bad guys to stay above the 20k hard deck. She is a beauty though and the 56th tore up a lot of 109s and 190s with her; so if you know how to fly her, you can make a living taking on fighters

I'd recommend using Simshaker Sound Module with the Buttkicker. It takes care of the sound routing when you're using and USB headset. And it adds beautiful effects that makes flying virtually a lot easier and more enjoyable. :-)
