Marathas were defeated at Panipat. They had lost battle but not war. Peshwa had dispatched another force to fight Abdali and it was approaching Delhi. Abdali's army was also badly damaged at Panipat and was not in a position to fight another battle against Marathas. Abdali hurridly left Delhi for Afganistan 15 days after first battle. On his return to Afganistan, Sikhs looted him because his army was too week after Panipat battle. Marathas forced Abdali to run back to Afganistan. Therfore they won the war against Abdali.
