When he pulled his gun, she cowered, raised both hands and said, "I'm sorry". He ignored her submission and continued to walk toward her shouting commands as if she were threatening him. You don't close distance with someone you fear will scald you. He was the aggressor, and if she threw the water, she had the right to defend herself however she could. In a life-or-death situation, you take whatever shot you can get. You don't call your shots in advance. His level of indifference afterward wasn't even human.

I'm from the town where this happened. My Dad was part of the Springfield PD. I went to high school with guys who eventually joined on with the Sheriff's office. Please don't judge Springfield by this one incident. There are lots of great people on the force here and they would lay their life on the line to protect us. I'm heartbroken by all this; at all this ugliness that was just layed on our doorstep by this awful person. I love our men and women in uniform but we have got to try and do better. This woman didn't have to die. Look at the video, she was absolutely terrified from the moment he drew his gun on her. You can tell what kind of person he is too later when they asked him who he was with and his reply was "I was with dipshit". He didn't even show any respect for his partner.

I am a conservative and a Republican, BUT I believe changes do need to be made in Policing. I don't believe in Defunding the Police, but these are the changes I think need to be made, 1) All Police Officers should have to maintain a Federal or State license to be a Police Officer, no different then a Doctor that has to have a state medical board issue them a license to practice medicine, or a Lawyer being required to pass a State Bar and have a license to practice law. If a police officer is fired or resigns in lieu of termination should have his license pulled and unable to be hired elsewhere. There is a case in Florida, where a Police Officer planted drugs on over 27 people during traffic stops to get promoted. He literally ruined 27 families lives. There are many cases like this. 2) Qualified immunity needs to be removed, why is it when a Police Officer violates someone's rights and is sued the taxpayer's have to pay for it. This is just wrong. 3) Civil Forfeiture needs to be made unlawful, unless the person is arrested for a actual crime. I wish the Democrats and Republican's would come together and actually serve the public and address this matter in a rational way instead of gas lighting. I am tired of the dam THIN BLUE LINE GARABAGE. I was Active Duty Military for 26 years, when we removed someone from the Air Force for disciplinary reasons, they could not go join the Marines, Army, Navy, Coast Guard. Same should hold true for Cops, if you are fired or resign in liue of discipline, they should not be allowed to join a different police force.

Saying the water was boiling is a incorrect statement that makes the officers POV better, you can not tell if the water is boiling unless you right up on the pot or there is a lid over it, there is no indication that the water is boiling, I never seen a lick of steam even when the water hit the floor. For all we know the water could have been some what hot. What those officers did was cowardly. The cover officer should have turned off the fire to the stove, since when do officers allow suspects or civilians close to deadly weapons in their presence "Ma'am I'm going to go ahead and turn off your stove for you, just until we leave" easy.

Number 1 thing, if the cops was concerned about the boiling water... Well, from a distance of about 8 to 10 feet, that boiling water would have at most gotten a few mild burns on his body. 10 feet away, boiling water pellets flying in the air, are cooled down to the point of not being hot enough to hurt them. The cop was a loose cannon.

Instead, they created an entire false narrative, and even after they murdered her in cold blood, they still kept telling tons and tons of lies not just at the scene, but even afterwards lied and said she committed suicide, as well as that the intruder murdered her. This is corruption with the officer, his partner, but also the Police Department as well. Why did the family find out from social media she was murdered by police? What a incompetent expert. He doesn't know why the woman reached up for the pot. She reached up to take the pot from the counter to place it on the floor, because the officer CONTINUED to order her to put the pot down even after it was already down on the counter, so she thought since the officer is still ordering her to put it down, she thought in her mind maybe he meant DOWN ON THE FLOOR, so she picked it up to place it on the floor, but when she picked it up HE STARTED FIRING AT HER. A miscommunication. This officer's confusing orders caused an already confused individual to not understand him.

I totally agree with you.. She didn’t throw the water at him, I think she was confused by him keep saying drop the f ing pot when the pot was on the edge of the sink. She reached up to get the pot and this bastard shot her

He is like little slight things given room for there to be a option of maybe it was unlawful on her part or it could be a little bit, threatening or confusing to the officer the way I hear it because there’s no way that you don’t know working that long and type of work you do that she pose no threat to this guy at this time, but that he was confusing her cause she had already put the pot down so why wouldn’t you know why she reached back up to get the pot obviously she’s confused she trying to do what he said maybe he wants it on the floor and she duck and put her hands up because she scared he’s already threatening her and coming in closer so I don’t know The way you know things are

The part that really gets me is when the officer checking on her mentions several times that she is still gasping for air.

After all this traction, mainly online, you’d think this would the straw , regarding policing in America, BUT, we’ve been here before, not just national , but global , yet, here we are AGAIN. I strongly believe the system is doing what it was intended to do. This is America, and we will continue to be globally known for this behavior.

She never was in a crisis. She literally called for help with a prowler. No different from a Karen calling about a person looking suspicious.

These Officers knew prior to her call for help for a possible intruder that Sonya Massey was suffering from mental illness.

This us victim blaming. He directed her so he could "put a weapon in her hand".

After he shot her, you could hear her breathing. This is disgusting.

In the movie The Exorcist the priest throws holy water on the possessed person chanting "The power of CHRIST compels you" similar to "I rebuke you, in the name of JESUS". This is what first came to mind in reference to what the officer may have thought she meant. After watching the video, the officer had full clarity that the young lady was either totally in fear of the unknown prowler or maybe even slightly having mental issues. Note: she was wearing a hospital ID band, something the officer should've noticed. When the officer ask about the vehicle parked in her driveway and if she was aware of any damage, the only damage she recalled was a dent. Not smashed windows. As an officer, his first thought should have been that someone was outside her home and had broken in her car. At that point the officer should've started to investigate that angle. Turning off his body cam made it clear to me that the officer had bad intentions. I believe he turned off his camera because he was planning on raping a person he deemed not to be fully in her right mind. Maybe not that day, he would return when he was alone. So he needs to enter the home to case the place out, asking questions like does anyone else live here with you? This maybe the reason the officer kept inching his way in her home opposed to simply leaving. Did he make a sexual pass or was he thinking sexual thoughts at her pre to his partner entering the home? The other officer was running her license plates as you see in the distance, the main officer speaking to her and entering her home. With his camera and audio off we don't know what he or she said that warranted him entering her home. Also she had made a comment about her meds, which should have triggered the officers that she may be in need of her medication and this would explain her questionable antics. Was the paperwork she was frantically looking for, some form of medical records highlighting her mental condition or prescription she needed filled? This is why I believe she continued to ask for their help. In closing he clearly murdered her. Her hands we're up, she stated she was sorry. But at a different angle she grabs the pot again and seems to try to throw it but there was a clear none threaten distance between her and the officer's. But the officer had already threatened to shot her in the face, even after he was given all the mental illness signs and symptoms. A person with mental illness has strong senses and this is how they may react when in fear or detect evil in their presence. His bad decision will cost him. He should receive life or even the death penalty. I wonder if he was fired from the other police departments because of some form of sexual harassment encounters and or racism? His tattoo's seem to represent some form of possible white supremacy or aryan nation affiliation.
