I remember seeing a Pantera for the first time in the early 70's and saying to myself thats one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen. I have to say 50+ years later that assessment still holds true. That's the very definition of a superior design, it never never gets old!

4:52: “In the 90s, a decade best forgotten about”. Is that the same 90s that gave us the Honda NSX, Lotus Elise, McLaren F1, 968 Clubsport, Caterham R500, Clio Williams, Ferrari 355, F50, and Lotus Esprit V8? 😃😃 And on the track, the V10 era of F1?

And of course the first Impreza Turbo and Civic Type R. And Supra mkIV, Escort Cosworth and Ferrari 550M. Plus the 90s didn’t debut the following great cars, but included their production: 205 GTi, VW Golf GTi mk2, BMW E30 M3, Delta Integrale, Mazda RX7 (the gorgeous one!), MX5... I’d actually contest that the 90s was the most iconic and important year for performance cars ever.

finally someone covering this car in the main stream. This car, to this day (in my opinion), is the most badass car ever designed or conceived of. better than any concept I've seen, foreign exotic, or american muscle. Looks like a blend of italian exotic and american muscle when car companies cared about aesthetics. It's a badass car, it is not beautiful. Its badass, that sounds corny and cliche but its accurate. It is the car ideal in my opinion and I hope to see it surpassed one day.

I think I could pick a Pantera out from miles away just by the engine note. My father bought restored and sold three of them at various points. The last one he kept for something like 20 years, fortunately long enough for me to be able to drive it on track once. "Man-tera" is an apt nickname, but they're gorgeous and if you can keep them from rusting the mechanicals are either (relatively) cheap Ford V8 components or indestructible ZF stuff. Way ahead of their time in a way and I think still under appreciated.

Such a stunning looking car! It gained quite a lot of popularity back then thanks to that Cleveland V8, highly adaptable and tuneable for relatively small price. There were many examples in Europe and America but there's one that strikes me the most, Mitsunaga's Pantera in Japan, where it is already a legend. It became the first car to break the 300 Km/h mark in Japan, and during late 70s and early 80s, it was the fastest thing on the road, pushing 700 hp with a full rework of suspension, chassis and gearbox. Many of these custom build cars did not only search for top speeds on test tracks, but also open roads. The 70s were the early beginnings of street racing in Japan, and the Pantera was already there decimating everyone. Mitsunaga killed himself trying to get 320 Km/h racing down Tōmei Expressway in 1981.

In 1971 to 1973, as a callow youth, living in Otley (Yorkshire, UK) & working as an apprentice with Post Office Telephones in Leeds, I travelled each day on my motorcycle through the moneyed, leafy suburbs of North Leeds. It wasn't unusual to spot the occasional late 60s/early70s exotica.A Lamborghini Miura pulled up at the lights alongside me, I saw an Espada, the occasional Ferrari & yes, (on separate occasions) 2 DeTomasos, a Pantera & a Mangusta. Made my day! All this was over a period of 2 years....

Recently got my '72 Pre L Pantera back from 4 years of modification and restoration to make it more drivable. I still think it looks quite contemporary compared to modern day supercars, better actually. And I'm not as big a fan of the wide bodied, flared fendered, Countach winged GT5 cars though I'll admit they're more aggressive looking. Those later cars just don't have the svelte, sensuous body of the original Tom Tjaarda design. Now, with over 500hp on mine and a completely replaced, luxurious leather interior with C4 Corvette seats, and fuel injection, it's a much more enjoyable car, and I take it out every weekend, whereas before, I literally almost never drove it. Thrilling experience to drive even a relatively low speeds as you're so low to the ground it's like driving a missile powered go cart. And the noise! It's ferociously loud right behind your head. No need for a music system as you can't hear it anyways.
