Chris Long reacts to De'Vondre Campbell leaving the 49ers game early after being told to go in and play on Thursday Night Football against the LA Rams. George Kittle, Charvarius Ward, Kyle Shanahan and other 49ers players all took issue with Campbell's decision to leave saying "they had never seen that before," and "he'll probably get cut." Chris Long was surprised by the decision and how in the NFL, you suit up and do your job. The Rams vs 49ers matchup had plenty at stake in the NFC West playoff
standings and the 49ers needed their teammate at that point in the game.

No matrer what trash Campbell has as an excuse it'll never be compared to Ward-playing after losing a child, Williams-injured/loss of a child,Warner-playing with a broken ankle,Kittle-playing injured/hamstring,Purdy-playing injured/shoulder,Pearsall-playing/recently shot,Greenlaw- coming back from a serious injury ....no excuse for quitting.

I think the big thing too was that he acted like everything was normal up until the moment he was asked to go in the game and then that's the moment he bailed. I think there's a time and a place where you can say you just can't do it and even if it's disappointing it's not to the level of torpedoing a guy's career, but that has to happen BEFORE the game day roster is set so they can activate someone else, elevate practice squad guys if needed, and so on. Once the active roster's out and you're on it, that window is firmly closed. Also, I feel for Greenlaw. He makes this incredible comeback and it's barely being talked about because everyone's talking about Campbell instead.

Campbell has been an issue all year. He was brutal to start the year, and then they had him share snaps with Winters in an early game and he flipped out to a reporter about it. For the record, I am assuming he knew Greenlaw would get his spot back. I think he was butthurt that Winters was the 3rd LB in the first half and not him. But F dude, you can't run. You can't cover. They can't put you there. We ended up playing a 1 legged LB and a safety at LB, and our 3rd and 4th safeties at safety. Yeah, big shock the Rams could suddenly run.

Forcing Deebo the ball after he complained on Twitter, was another huge reason they lost. We’ve known that he lost a step and that’s why he hasn’t been getting the touches. Plus if Kyle never fixes the O-line pass protecting issues and gets WR’s who can separate, then Purdy will be doomed.

I’ve got to push back on the comment of “The Niners didn’t have that fight”. I’m sorry, what? Two different players tragically lost children this year, one of which played in this game. One the players was shot in an attempted robbery, he played in this game. Fred Warner is playing with a fractured ankle. He played in this game. It’s actually a bit insulting to say they “didn’t have that fight”. What more do you want from them? That’s what makes Campbell’s refusal worse. This team is plagued with injuries, and this was a do or die game for the team. Without even getting into the “who’s injured/missing” necessarily, to quit on the team when your number is called, knowing that the people standing beside you are dealing with significantly worse issues and still saying ‘Nah’, all because you’re upset you got benched after poor play earlier in the season is some bullshit. And I’m not talking as a fan, but as someone who’s played team sports. WTF?

How can somebody that has their FEELINGS HURT on PRIME TIME, the team was losing, they were going to lose anyway as their season was already over, pull this stunt? Don't bother suspending, CUT the player. ANd fire Kyle!

@nadjasunflower1387

this guy was an ALL PRO LB with GB...was being the operative word...he was ' bumped ' due to 1) Dre Greenlaw was back, but under a snap count. 2) Campbell's slow, can't cover, and not really good at anything. Doesn't try on the play, unless it's coming to him. couple weeks ago when he could have tackled a RB if he'd made a good effort, he just jogged, and RB went past him to score a TD. the younger LB took that spot because he can do all of the above...it's his own fault he got bumped...

Niners have a deep culture problem with some key contributors. John Lynch is the man and I have a ton of respect for him but letting Aiyuk walk all over the team in the offseason was the final domino. At some point you have to value culture over talent when talent wants to be all about drama and problems. Niners will be fine moving forward, but they have a culture issue for sure.

This type of thing has always been a problem with Shanahan teams. People already forgot about Deebo putting hands on the LS and Bosa highjacking Purdy’s post game interview with his bs. These things don’t happen on well run teams. Not to mention the year long crying tour all the stars of that team, including Shanahan and Lynch, went on making excuses for why they lost the 2022 NFCC and how they deserved to win. They’ve tried to fight every team they’ve lost to over the last several years until recently where it seems they gave up. Hence why Dre should not have gotten the benefit of the doubt in the Big Dom situation.
