Dead And Alive Seal Entangled Together

3 жыл бұрын

We were too late for one of them, but the other one had a tiny little bit of fight left in her. When the rescuers from Ocean Conservation Namibia approached the two seals, they were already aware that one of them was gone, but they were hoping that at least one of them could be saved. The two were entangled together in one piece of fishing line, and there was no escape for either one of them. The surviving seal had tried hard to bite herself out of that situation, but without OCN's intervention, her life would have come to a sad end, all because of a piece of fishing line that should not have been thrown into the ocean.
The seal was barely able to breathe, the line was too tight around her neck. The extra stress from the rescue made it even worse for a few moments, but luckily the rescuers are very experienced and know how to act fast. It took one single cut to free the seal from choking. She seemed a bit disoriented, but she quickly found her way back into the ocean.
There are no rehab facilities in Namibia. Keeping her in her natural environment is her best chance of survival. We have seen amazing recoveries on much, much worse injuries on seals.
It was a bittersweet rescue, but we have to stay positive and celebrate each little victory. 🦭

Omg....... that was so disturbing. Imagine dragging your dead friend around for days, while you can hardly breathe yourself. I'm never going to forget this rescue. @@marshwetland3808 I’m Australian. Normally the lines aren’t on beaches, but all tangled in rocks that are exposed at low tide. A lot of them also get snagged on tough seaweed so I wade out at low tide and untangle them. Beaches generally are fine because it’s just sand so there’s nothing to break your line there. The ones I see are all from just casual fisherman though, not big commercial nets and lines or anything. But still, at the end of summer holiday season there’s a lot there. You just need to know where to look.

@@evelynvslife Interesting. Thank you. I live inland now and haven't seen the ocean in 4 years, but next time I am there, especially at low tide, I will be looking and grabbing any lines or nets I find. I guess a straight-up education video about what that looks like and how to do it might get a lot of people like me beach-combing differently.

More and more people have to wake up before it's too late 😔 the oceans are dying. Ocean mammals are nearly extinct, the first time in humans history. Only 10 vaquitas are left, 75 southern resident orcas, under 366 north Atlantic right whales. And so many other animal species and plant species ....

I appreciate that you warned me in Patreon that this would be posted, as I needed to steel myself to watch. I am now bawling, distraught, heartbroken. And angry as fnck at the gawdamn humans who discard this sh!t in the water. I am sick to imagine what those pups went through, unable to separate, the one finally dying, the other one desperate to free itself. Thank Gaia you rescued it! I hope with all my heart that it will recover from such horrific trauma. THANK YOU for having the courage and determination to do such painful rescues.
