I've seen them five times, and they have never lip-synched! I can't imagine why you'd think they do. There is plenty of footage of them off-time, in poor voice, etc., which wouldn't exist if they faked their way through their concerts. Most of the time they're just fantastic, and Lisa's voice is so powerful it rises far above the percussion. Check your facts, babe (and the attitude).

awesome recovery for starting early. Didnt break a stride, recovered and came back making up for it-- total professional. Honestly I couldn't image playing along side her and being able to keep with the music and not going off to wherever she is....I'm not the biggest fan of the recordings compared to live, although they are good - live is something totally different.

This heavenly voice abides by its own rules, and nothing about it correlates in ordinary ways. I never know where this voice comes from anyway, how it can be. And how her lips move with respect to this river-fountain-forest spring-river again, how this enormous range, so effortlessly sung, correlates with human vocal cords, is a mystery not to touch. I almost wish she would resort to lip syncing sometimes, to spare those cords a bit, but, given her perfectionism, I don't think she would.

I saw them at the NYC show about two weeks ago. I myself did notice that some of the percussion tracks were obviously sequenced (you'd hear a certain part being played but then you'd realize nobody on the stage was actually playing it), but the rest of the music was mostly live. Also, their singing at the NYC show wasn't always at the top of their form, so if they've been doing any lip synch, it wasn't at the show I saw.

Lots of bands use sequencers for any number of reasons. My daughter & her husband play multiple instruments live, including into sequencers AT THE TIME OF PERFORMANCE so that they can move onto another instrument while the first one continues to play, and she sings with herself by using a sequencer. It's not considered "cheating." Lip-synching is, however, and DCD do NOT lip-synch. It's also impossible to play yang ch'in & sing at the same time, so Lisa uses a sequencer for the yang ch'in part.

I wasn't at that show so I won't argue, but I will say that I, too, have a great deal of engineering and recording experience (indie filmmaker and oft live mixer), and I am certain that when I saw them, they were not faking anything. Once I saw them do Rakim and, for some reason, one of the drummers lost time (probably monitor issues) and the whole song collapsed. Brendon was furious. Watch videos (on right), and you'll see that, on occasion, their performances this year weren't great (or fake).

The concert in Athens was unbelievable!!! Dead Can Dance are breathtaking!! Does anyone know how the instrument that David Kuckhermann plays is called? It sounds almost like the Hang but it's does look like it.

It's not about mistakes! It's because they can't afford to tour with a dozen musicians, some of whom would only be needed on one or two songs, so some parts are played through sequencers! It doesn't make the performance any less "live." Playing an orchestral part through a keyboard doesn't make it less carefully arranged, programmed, and played. There's a great deal of ignorance of how music is made on display here. And the singing, by both Lisa and Brendan, is always LIVE.

Some of the parts you're hearing are coming from keyboards, too. Joe Jackson has performed the entire Heaven & Hell song cycle live using multiple instruments, keyboards, sequencers, pre-recorded sections, etc. The technology is amazingly flexible, but it's not the same thing as what someone like Britney Spears does, which is to fake the whole performance and never sing a note. What DCD is doing is to avoid needing 15 musicians for one song. It's still live.

As women age, and reach the stage of crone (or menopause), we stop producing estrogen which directly affects the firmness of our skin. Look at photos of any woman you know (not hollywood) at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, ... skin loosens and cheeks sink. I believe she has aged quit gracefully...

To compare Dead Can Dance to these people is absurd--esp. Milli Vanilli, who didn't even sing on "their" record. These two have been performing live in small clubs and medium-sized venues since the 70s. They're not a studio creation. They are artists with a great deal of integrity. They have websites and a Facebook page--why not post something there, asking them if they lip-synched, instead of just ragging on them here? I'm sorry you were disappointed, but I cannot believe they faked a show.

We live in a cynical time as 1 of the actresses from "Lord of the Rings" mentioned. Nobody admires these days, always something wrong to be found! To suspect Lisa Gerard in lip synching. Do you even know who she is?! She co-writes all the music in "Dead Can Dance", she has solo lps, she co-wrote (the better part) of the "Gladiator" soundtrack. I couldn't respect her more, in whatever she does, even if she did lip synch.
