Very few realize how rare it is for creating performers to sing with absolute mastery, 20-30 years later in their careers. Who knew Dead Can Dance would be their best in their 60s?

As a European, I love Dead Can Dance too. Sorry, to say that to you, but what you're hearing in the studio recording and not live. Pay attention all the instruments you're hearing and what you see. Besides, it's also obvious of the qualities of musical sounds, and of his voice, of course. Take care.

Fair point, but you’re mistaken. I agree it sounds like the album version, but if you listen to both simultaneously, you’ll notice the difference. So, no, it’s not mimicry.@@dominusstyx

@@pixelfrenzy No, they're not pretending to play, it's what we're hearing as audience, and that's the studio recording. All TV/Radio shows it's the same thing, even if there's live audience. Only concerts are really live, with all the paraphernalia and full orchestras. Of course there are exceptions, but are rare though. On that particular setting, for me, there's no way to be live, apart of the absence of the plethora of instruments we're hearing, even the "echo" of his voice and only, screaming Studio. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. Good bye.

We are ancients As ancient as the sun We came from the ocean Once our ancestral home So that one day We could all return To our birthright The great celestial dome We are the children of the sun Our journey's just begun Sunflowers in our hair We are the children of the sun There is room for everyone Sunflowers in our hair Throughout the ages Of iron, bronze, and stone We marvelled at the night sky And what may lie beyond We burned offerings To the elemental ones Made sacrifices For beauty, peace and love We are the children of the sun Our kingdom will come Sunflowers in our hair We are the children of the sun Our carnival's begun Our songs will fill the air And you know it's time To look for reasons why Just reach up and touch the sky To the heavens we'll ascend We are the children of the sun Our journey has begun All the older children Come out at night Anaemic, soulless Great hunger in their eyes Unaware of the beauty That sleeps tonight And all the queen's horses And all the king's men Will never put these children back Together again Faith, hope, our charities Greed, sloth, our enemies We are the children of the sun We are the children of the sun

I love revisiting this performance every couple of years. Such a fantastic and influential band - I'll be looking up an artist I'm just getting into, be it metal, rock, pop, electronic, film/videogame music and so often I'll see Dead Can Dance cited as an influence. They're one of those bands that perhaps aren't charting constantly but whose footprint can be seen or heard in a great many bands, and will be for centuries quite possibly.

I was blessed with discovering DCD in 1990 on an alternative radio program in Canada. I was stunned, mesmerized, and nothing can compare since. This music is sublime, Divine, otherworldly, and deeply magical . BTW...DCD has been explained by Brendan Himsrlf as the coming to life of musical instrument, the resonance, what was still and inert, touched by the human and the energy of Soul....comes to life....thus DCD....not goth by any means....old Souls music from another world. Thankyou for 30 plus years of nectar.

My good friend turned me on to DCD around the time Within the Realm of a Dying Sun came out (I was 14). Man, they were pretty eclectic for that time. Especially given the rest of the 4AD catalog around that time. I was listening to The Birthday Party, Bauhaus, Wolfgang Press, Pixies and other "harder edged" bands. Enter DCD. My mind was kinda blown. I gobbled up everything I could find. Fast forward a year and The Serpent's Egg was released. Mind blown - again! I think that was the first inkling I got of just how huge their soundscape was to become (though I didn't know it at the time). I lost touch with them after Into The Labyrinth. They started becoming a little too mainstream for my liking. I was shifting gears and my taste had veered over into some very fast and loud punk rock. And there it remained for a couple decades. Now I'm 44, and am rediscovering DCD all over again. It's good to see they are still sounding amazing! Kudos to them. Let's see how my 10 year old son likes them. :D

First time I heard this was at night. I was driving up I95 in Philly. I had never heard of this band and I could not get over how much he sound like Jim Morrison "all the older children come out at night". Unbelievable!
