I’m actually geeking, what happened to Norma. She slayed her dad and her mom over being rejected ONCE? Like okay I’m glad she worked through it, but also, GIRL YOU SLAYED YOUR MOM IN GRIEF AND SHE LEGIT TRIED ANYWAY. Why are the parents so supportive and still absolutely wailed on? I wish I had at least ONE PARENT that cared as much as any of these parents. Like DANG. Writer is right, I’m made af bc Norma went after her mom. She’s a saint. Like dang. Edit: Barney is a straight up sociopath, controlling a person because you can’t handle jack, that’s MESSED UP.

I think Hamish wrote Paranormal Park as his own personal revenge corn to get back at his own parents, and projects his hatred onto all parents. I swear he gets sick enjoyment from seeing Norma's mom go down, because she's a stand-in for his own mother. Also, Barney is a fairly obvious Gary Stu stand-in for himself. Hamish is proudly displaying his own disgusting personality though Barney, yet has zero self awareness to realize how badly he's telling on himself. He treats the show as pure wish fulfillment fantasy to rewrite his own life to make himself always win. It's honestly kinda sick.

47:40 The reason for that is because Barney is very clearly a self-insert of Hamish, and he himself is such a narcissist that he revolves his entire personality around being trans. He treats Paranormal Park as his own personal wish fulfillment, and thus he does extremely messed up stuff like destroy Norma's mom (who's been nothing but supportive) since he wanted to see his own mother suffer. He treated Norma's mom as an effigy for his own. Am I making baseless assumptions? Yes! Yes, I am. But given how Hamish wrote Barney as this infallible, perfect little softboi who's always right no matter how awful he is to everyone, tells me that Hamish genuinely sees nothing wrong with Barney's (and by extension, his) behavior. And once you realize that, it's not much of a leap to see how he treats all of the other characters as projections, as well. He uses the show to validate himself and "get back" at specific individuals he's got grudges against.

49:10 You're far kinder than I. I don't feel sorry for Hamish because his bad show with bad writing and a bad main character was rightfully cancelled. It's the same situation as High Guardian Spice's creator; he also had this cooking in his head for YEARS before finally getting it greenlit, and THIS was the best he can come up with? *_Really?_* If Hamish actually thinks his Barney character is a perpetual victim whose behavior is always justified, or even worse created Barney as a self-insert, then there's no way I can even consider him to be a decent person. Let alone a decent showrunner. Yeah that's mean, but there are so many people out there with great ideas, who never get the chance to get their series made. Hamish had his chance, and he blew it. That's on him.

One issue in particular I had with the wrestling episode is Barney forgave his coach faster and easier then he forgives his own damn PARENTS…

His parents who showed him nothing but love and were doing their best to support him after coming out as trans, by the way. So many trans kids would do ANYTHING for parents like Barney's, yet he treated them like garbage.

Ok I'm not done, I'm still mad about this. The only thing they did wrong was freeze up in front of Barney's boomer grammaw, cuz it was an awkward moment and they felt cowed. *_That's it._* Which by the way, we never actually hear what she said to him, so for all we know he blew it way out of proportion. Given his massive victim complex and penchant for overreacting, I'd say that's likely. At the very least, it wasn't the demonic, shrieking tirade of venomous transphobic slurs he claims it was. Considering all of the horrible things Barney has *_deliberately_* done to other people, the mistake his parents made is incredibly tame by comparison. But no, Barney isn't even willing to hear their heartfelt apology, not until he's made them suffer as long as his vindictive heart deems it necessary. He won't apologize to people he's hurt cuz he thinks he's in the right, yet expects people to grovel at his feet for even the slightest indiscretion. There's a term for behavior like Barney's. It's called emotional abuse.

The best part of this show was Norma as her arc dealing with her autism was realistic and not condescending. As an autistic pansexual person I related to Norma alot. Barney's arc was rushed and made him come across as unlikeable at times, but I found him an interesting character. He was even funny at times! Overall, despite the many flaws of Deadend I enjoyed it!

Something I wanted to add before about the whole parent scene in the restaurant is that, no, parents do not HAVE TO accept you, your beliefs or everything you do. The only thing they HAVE TO do is take care of you till you are a legal adult. As cruel as it may sound, love, attention, understanding, any whim and desire you may have, agreeing with any life choices or experiences etc etc is not something a child is ACTUALLY owed. And no better question exemplifies this as, should a parent accept, in the way the show presents acceptance as endorsing and blindly and continuous agreeing, their child as a m**rderer or something abhorrent? No? Then it isnt something that is universally unconditionally given. It sucks but jot even love is something you are automatically owed just because you are someone's child and the negative uses and abuse of these concepts exeplifies this best. These arent ACTUALLY, realistically unconditional things, as much as we want them to truly be and feel they should be. But I think we all know that isnt realistic to how humans operate or these things actually work. Not saying these things are purely transactional but just not as unconditional as the show and people seem to want or think they are

Although the show has a few problems i LOVE it. Funny and chaotic. Also I haven’t watched your first video so I’ll say here: Season 1 strengths: Norma was really well done as autistic, Barney is although underdeveloped has a good plot line in my opinion. His fear of his grandma is so horrifying. Both of them are really great in my opinion and work well off of each other. I think Courtney is very nice to have around as a little bit of sadism and madness. Seeing Norma be in denial of Pauline’s evil is so heartbreaking and relatable to me (Potterhead is all I shall say about that) and there’s so much fun and chaotic scenes which are just crazy. Season 1 weaknesses: wish they developed more of the plot lines. I want to see more of Norma trying to accommodate to the park with her overstimulation issues. And maybe a backstory episode about Barney and his grandma problem. Season 2: I didn’t notice much the first time. But Barney was awful in this season. I wish he grew more.

I said that in the context of a story, seeing a character with Depression, not having any context beforehand and then being expected to care feels insulting because the depression feels tacked on and lazy.
