He seems very earnest about indie developers making good games so i feel like he's just trying to give his two cents from a player standpoint.

Sad thing is when a game is in need of actual feedback, he can't and won't say anything negative which can be just as bad or worse. Some games do need actual feedback, but I can somewhat see why he doesn't since twice he has, and both times the developers got upset at him. (Plus the risk of fans overhating said games) It's nice but should be taken with a grain of salt.

@@pinkbone6114 One was from a game he played but in 2013/2014, it was something "eyes". (I don't remember the name unfortunately) but he critiqued it and the creator got upset by it. The other one was from "Welcome to the game" and the creator ended up messing with his game afterwards. There may have been another incident where he crituiqed a game and his fans ended up going overboard with the creator unless that was the first one I mentioned. I just remembered since then he hasn't really given much feedback or if at all if it's towards indie games to not cause problems. (Much different compared to company games, like "Hello, Neighbor" where he was much more verbal and for good reason.)

This game seems so same-y to me, like everything in it has been done to death. I know it's just a demo, but as usual it follows the exact same tropes you always see in these indie-horror games. Indie-horror games can be incredible, but so many developers just get comfortable remaking the same idea with the same story beats and steps, and that's how you end up with stuff like this that really falls short of even being original. The excessive jumpscares, the meta idea of "what if your the bad guy in a horror game?", the random monster wandering through hallways with no explanation just there to spook you, the changing pictures, the radio broadcasts, it's all been done to death.

Games generally get inspired by other games so you get a lot of the same points which is how genres and therein subgenres are born and defined, I watched this video called Are Comparisons Bad For Gaming by DrewSunn who talked a lot about this, and yea this is how it goes for a bit before there's a branch out, like a few things in this reminded me of P.T. but it isn't the same as you don't loop, you're just stuck, but it's still a hunt to get to the next event, a person seemingly condemned to a hellish fate for something they did that you have to piece together, as a voice from a radio speaks to you, and baby in the bathroom, however I think it's interesting that different spots are essentially level selections which gives me more of a Dread X vibe. So yes, the prologue has a lot of similar beats, but the rest of the game could branch out, we unfortunately have to wait to see, but there's chance and potential

Again, Among The Sleep does it amazingly. If I remember correctly, Visage was another one that did it well. Is this game tied to Visage in any fashion? It seems very, VERY heavily inspired by the setting and style of Visage. I'm so glad Mark is back to making regularly scheduled gaming videos. For some reason not only Mark but pretty much all my other favorite youtubers as well started to only post 1 video every week to a week and a half, and I've made it a habit of decompressing after work by eating large meals while watching a video- usually Markiplier. I'm excited to see the film Mark has created this time, but damn does it suck not seeing Mark's face every day goofing about as I chill out. I've watched Mark since I was a kid in middle school and now I'm 26. He reminds me about how it feels to be a kid again with no responsibilities and nothing too important to worry about.
