Travis and Ryan started hauling in the hay bales from the 25 acre hay field when the Bobcat wouldn't start just as a snowstorm was starting!

Summer Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday, Friday and at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZbin channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

The nighttime shots of you all working in the cold blowing snow trying to fix the skid-steer are powerful. You always work hard, but that shot highlighted the hard work you do and how determined you are to get it done.

Hey Ryan we just bought a JCB Tele handler used from a rental company. I have to say all of your videos on the JCB you guys have had really weighed heavily on my decision to purchase it so thanks for all that! On another note you have to love your brothers personality. Some of his lines are so funny: the first thing he says after seeing that shooting star was “that was what killed the dinosaurs right “😂 happy Thanksgiving to you and your family bud

Nice job getting that hay hauled despite the conditions. It's pretty wintry today up here in northern Wisconsin, and I, for one, am glad I don't have to run the snowplow or Bobcat with the wind we're getting. I'm surprised you didn't get the bale flip on camera. Happy Thanksgiving to the Kusters and all fans of How Farms Work and The Rest of the Story!

It would depend on how tight the bales are to some degree, but it would have to be pretty loose. On really solid bales sometimes I can only get the spear to go in half way.

Nice to catch a meteorite on video. With the amount hay straw and fodder bales you move why don’t you grab yourselves a better bale wagon.get a flat top the. You can use it for round and square bales as well as transporting other things like equipment and you can double your hauling capacity for bales.

I was under the impression that farming is hard. Looking at your videos (have seen quite a few of them, rather interesting), it seems less hard than my current job. Maybe a little dirty and sloppy from time to time and maybe a bit frustrating off and on, but I believe I could handle it. Doubt you will read my comment, but if you do, what kind of work is available on a farm and "very roughly" what kind of pay is expected? I know there's no way for me to own a farm, but hey, if the pay is decent enough, maybe I'll try my hand at working on a farm in the coming year or so. I'm a wee bit out of shape compared to my past, so I would prefer to get in better shape first.

When I took tractor safety 20 years ago they had a video they had us watch of the stored energy of a chain, cable, and nylon tow strap when stretched till they broke. All 3 would penetrate 3/4" plywood when they snapped back. Basically they told us any one of them could kill you, so be careful, and dont overload any tow apparatus

How Farms Work you wouldn’t have to haul the skid steer and deal with the hole stuck situation. then you wouldn’t had to have had Travis driving that truck there. So one operator one machine vs 4 machines and two people
@t.money1196
@t.money1196 4 жыл бұрын
Mikey Johnston one operator one machine? So you’re telling me you’re going unhook and hook the bale feeder 20 times and that’s going to save you “a lot of time in this situation”? That’s only one factor to mention too there’s so many other things that play into why that isn’t a faster process.
@mikeyjohnston2703
@mikeyjohnston2703 4 жыл бұрын
T.Money11 that’s a hauler not a feeder also take just a few mins to hook one up so yes it’s cheaper and faster also if unhook and hooking is killing time build a gooseneck hitch for the hauler and weld a ball on the hay fork then you never step out of the tractor

A couple years ago my Brother and I had a similar Problem when we hauled bales to the cattle. We didn't have another tractor or truck with us that Time. In our luck someone came by and helped out. We finished the Work and when we wanted to leave I already forgot about the Problem and shut down again. 😅🙈 when I saw my Brother going crazy I immediatly remembered. He walked over, ready to kill my ass and I just wanted to get out of his way so I started the tractor again. We could Not believe. Since than we always keep an extra eye on the cables and contacts in Winter. 🤣
