I have been enjoying the game. Coop is definitely where it’s at. I don’t mind killing zombies nonstop especially when trying a bunch of different weapons. I do hope if we get a dead island 3, they bring everything back from both games and have it be set in an open world on one map. Maybe split to three large maps. Idk

Im looking for an Open world survival game “As they are my biggest genre to look for” Exploration, Building, scavenging, surviving, I used to play the hell out of minecraft but after awhile it just got stale as did many other games. 3:18 the whole point of a HEAVY weapon is that it is slow to use, but it deals a brutal amount of damage. It's not "slow" or "clunky" because its a heavy weapon (something you even acknowledge). In real life a sword that big would also be "slow" and heavy to use. It's like playing a game that has minigun and expecting it to have the weight and movement of a regular pistol. It is called a heavy weapon not just because of the amount of damage it does, but also because of how heavy it is to use. It'd be unrealistic for our characters to go around with a sword that big, swinging it like its a butter knife. I can understand everything else, but your point on the heavy weapon doesn't even make sense since every gamer knows that heavy weapons are slow but 10x powerful (all games tell you this anyway), and that's how it'd more or less function in real life.

Generally, weapon swinging in Dead Island 2 is too slow. 2 handed weapons just exaggerate the issue further. Go play something like Dying Light 2 and you'll realise how much better and realistic it is. It feels like the character is trying hard and swinging the weapon as fast as he can to hit the zombie as hard as possible. While in Dead Island 2, it feels like the character is relaxed and isn't worried about hitting the zombies hard enough to kill them.

Tried the game today, I was surprised how well it runs on my by todys standart potato, i5-4460, amd rx570 8gb video and 16 gigs of ram, 1080p resolution. Game started with High preset automatically and I just turned off the bloom, looks good and plays smooth (for me at least).

I think it's because the map is divided into different smaller parts to decrease load times. And I guess the good optimization the game has.

I just started playing it and it's very fun. I'm at the Venice beach area now and I'm excited to play some more tomorrow. I do wish the map was more open though. It can get kinda annoying to play through sometimes because the areas are just too small. And idk if it's because I'm on the hardest difficulty or not (I don't remember which one I picked), the game is extremely difficult at times. There were points in the game were I just kept dying over and over, it can get really frustrating and unfair sometimes. I remember there was one time where I got hit once by a zombie and died instantly, wasn't one of those brute things either, it was just a regular tennis zombie.

everyone says it's so much more fun playing it online, but in my opinion, co-op kills the vibe of this game. it gets way too chaotic for me, and you often find yourself trying to explore some interesting areas while your friends are already way ahead, moving towards the main objective and clearing everything out of the way. this is just a frustrating experience because it gives you that feeling of missing out. i guess you need someone with a similar playstyle to enjoy this game in co-op mode because so far i've had more fun playing it solo

This was a great game to play. I played it on launch and it was very satisfying playing solo through the campaign. The one *massive* downfall I have with the game is that it advertises Endless replayability. After the campaign there is close to zero replayability. Unlike Dying Light, this game has no randomised side quests, no random events that occur on the map, no friendly NPC's you can find needing help. Once I finished the campaign it was quickly shelved, where in Dying Light 1 & 2 the open world still felt alive with many unpredictable random events occurring around you.

yeah but they could have turned down the difficulty slider and I only say this cause in dead island and dead island riptide if you get into a stuck spot it respawns you with weapons at the wear you started with the mission of same effectiveness but the infected you killed stays the same like how many you killed. In dead island 2 it will respawn you but it takes away anything you did aka they are all back but your weapon wear stays the same when you died.so you could come back into a "kill them all" parts of the game with completely broken weapons but the whole horde of infected has respawned and sometimes it feels helpless, then it gets worse when zombies keep spawning out of the grates or man holes all over.you think your done with 4 or 5 then start getting hit by 5 more behind you

I prefer this to DI1 and Riptide. It's also really funny that DI2 roasts DI1's escort quests every time the matter is brought up. I find the roasts funny because one late game escort mission in DI1 made me quit.

I played DI2 on launch and I enjoyed the game a lot (this was fully purchased on PC as well so no gamepass). I disagree about your take on the melee combat because if I wanted my weapon attacks to feel like paper weights I would play an anime game where I'm teenage girl is swing around a great sword like its a feather lol. In a first person game where I want to FEEL the impact of my attacks making them a little more cumbersome is a good thing and adds to the impact that this game offers compared to many other games that have terrible weightless first person melee combat. Its the reason I liked the original and I feel the first person combat in this game is some of the best, along with a gore system that not many games can touch atm. I feel the biggest short comings about the sequel was the smaller maps, the new card system replacing the traditional skill trees of the previous games, the cliffhanger ending, and lack of NG+ to keep growing your character or at least being able to take a maxed out character through the game again with a higher challenge. I feel given the game almost never came out due to it being thrown from 1 dev to another, this game came out hte best it possibly could have under those circumstances. I am excited to jump back in the game with the last DLC releasing in a few days.

Might want to not treat all anime aesthetic melee oriented games the same. There's a great variety. See soulstice, code vein, astral chain, but then you also have games like you said with genshin. There's meh games in every genre/ aesthetic.

@@morriganrenfield8240 I enjoyed soulstice (probably one of the best DMC clones on the market) and astral chain, however those are completely different style games. For a first person zombie game like DI2 the combat NEEDS to feel weighty and cumbersome to some extent otherwise the attacks would feel like crap, and impacting agasint a zombie would feel like paper. This is not a game where you will be juggling zombies in infinites, swapping between 3-4 different weapons mid air and things like that. It is a first person zombie hack and slash that focuses more on the that grounded face to face combat style then fast paced anime style combat. I see your point but I was not hating on anime style games in general I was simply saying that in the context of this game, weightless feeling weapons and fighting styles just would not work. As I personally feel that this game has one of the best first person combat systems on the market and thats including hit feedback, enemy reaction/feedback,...etc.

I absolutely love this game but it does lack difficulty and replay ability once you’ve pretty much done the game 100%. Once you hit level 10 the game gets easier due to weapons, modifications and even the assault rifle makes specials feel like normal zombies. I wish they implemented a difficulty, I understand Dead Island has never been a difficult series, but if Dying Light has difficulties then I think this game would benefit from a difficulty selection. The lack of NG+ is the biggest upset especially the fact we’re in 2024 and most games that base around you vs the AI has NG+! That could be there biggest difficulty spike and introduce more levels and unique weapons. I don’t like playing one playthrough then I have to start fresh in order to restart the game. I don’t know if you’re trying to be funny but majority of your complaints aren’t the reason to why this game has its flaws. Melee combat is excellent in this game. The special infections are borderline easy once you start getting unique weapons (you can get one literally less than 45 minutes playing). When you’re versing them as a low level character and they’re higher than you of course it’ll be difficult because you’re meant to come back once you required enough levels. You can beat them as a low level which for any new players do not do it. The NPC are literally there for story purposes, YOU as the player are the one who’s supposed to take the fight and not watch the NPC do it for you. The game isn’t meant to be taken seriously it’s supposed to be a hack and slash zombie game. Even the previous dead island games don’t even have an interesting story but the gameplay is why many players kept on playing. I feel like you played this for 12 hours and gave your opinion and I highly recommend to players to play this game because it’s fun.

I picked this up on Steam after waiting a year for the timed exclusive deal to be done. The melee combat feels good. Heavy weapons are slow but pack the stopping power to keep going. Light weapons are fast and give time to block. The story is nothing more than a reason to go from one place to another, and that is perfectly fine. How the story is told is what I find wrong with it. It takes control away from the player too often while still being in first person. Why not have choices in how to do some things also. How much would have it hurt to have a choice to watch the movie with Patton? What about personal quests lines to work on based on the slayer? The biggest issues I have seen are the zombie spawn radius for phasing in from nowhere. I have no problem if it is from close grates or sand, but just teleporting in a few feet close to me is is bad. At least make sure it happens behind a wall or something that I don't line of sight on. I get the devs want to be done with the game after the development hell this game went through.

Dead Island 2 is a pretty simple game, but what it offers it does it pretty well. Bashing zombies in the face with golf clubs and pipe wrenches never felt so good. The feedback on the hits and the damage model just feels/looks incredible. Sure it can get repetitive, but this game is meant to wind down and have a blast with friends, to relax at night, turn your brain off and just smash things in the face for a bit. There is a bit of suspense and tenseness too. I noticed playing alone at night, going from room to room searching houses can get a bit scary because the graphics/atmosphere and the zombies themselves are done so well. There's just nothing quite like it on the market despite its simplicity. It's like a delicious bowl of velveeta mac and cheese. Tasty and satisfying, but nothing sophisticated.

The "slow swinging sword" statement can be debunked with skills and perks lol, it sucks at FIRST but you get the perks its fine, that old bastard comment took me out 🤣🤣💯 thanks for that laugh. Story is awesome, playing with jacob and his jokes/fucked sense of humor is hilarious and i haven't had a jump scare since the og xbox game Run Like Hell and it was 2 parts so far that made me be like wtf out loud lol, the butcher zombie intro was awesome better than the first game butcher intro imo(now that i think about it look up the special zombie intro comparison i think dead island 2 wins that by a landslide)You can literally upgrade weapons i dont see why you keep bringing that up in the vid lol maybe the most frustrating thing to me so far is the zombie parts to find for certain perks, like rn i need regen tissue can't find a butcher to save my life, but maybe that's because i just did his first intro and I'd say how zombies are resistant to stats like a FIREFIGHTER should only be immune to fire idk why caustic damage dont work and also a bullet is a bullet incendiary or not they coulda just did bullet damage and made the fire immune instead of making the weapon completely useless in that sense. It does suck not being able to drive vehicles this time, but i only played dead island 1 1 and a half times. I was disappointed to see Sam B wasn't playable but i think that's personal. Also not to big on reading, but some of the things you find are actually worth the time, like a document explains why the bus caught on fire in the intro which makes complete sense now

Barely started it with my boyfriend, and already I don’t like it, it’s quite different from previous games, having just played the first 2 games together and loved them, seems the combat is lackluster so far and relies more on kicks and the environment (shock,acid, fire) plus they left off the ending of the last game weird. Also find the stomping to not be as good or efficient like previously and same with dismemberments, though it has more detail, I’m not a fan of the kicking and don’t think it makes sense it does more damage than the weapons so far. Also you can’t close doors and the spawns are even faster than riptide, so I’m usually have to be quick when searching an area. I miss the feeling of the first one where you are still human just immune and only at the end do you get strong from the mutagen, in this one you start strong and mainly rely on your strength instead of weapons as regular survivors Also different weapons should feel different, which I don’t get as much in this one, especially as in the last one characters specialized in certain attributes

Killing zombies is super ez, each zombie has there own weaknesses. Different mods make different zombies a cake walk. The only one ive seen is not good to fight in melee is the mutator cause its insane damage and wide range of attacks r murderous.

I love reading comments from people who hated it cause there will always be ineptoids that have horrible taste & it's fun to laugh at them. So recent review (just finished the game yesterday) the story feels too short, you dont have much of side quest or deviations for the main ones, there is what? Only five leyendaries? It feels meh, lack luster, the game looks good but to me its the only thing going for it. Im not going to buy the dlc dont really care about that, it dosent have to do with the story so meh.

Dead island 1 had clunky fighting and it's crazy so much time passed and dead island 2 still has the same copy paste ass melee. Any other positive shit is cope nostalgia.
