I really enjoyed how the difficulty was handled. 1-3 zombies=ezpz 4-6 zombies=use your stamina wisely and kite and you should be fine 7+ zombies=run or use your special attack/explosives. Otherwise you dead as hell Seemed like the most realistic way to portray common infected to me.

@@baileyschmidt1896 What Riptide may not be fantastic, but it actually carries on the story of the main cast, pretty much _immediately_ after the events of the first game X3 That's as much a sequel as a sequel could _be!_ The trailers for the game actually called Dead Island 2 don't show any trace of the cast we'd been playing as, instead introducing a few totally original characters ;p If anything is spiritual, it's probably that one. And if any of them are "just kinda there," I'd say that's maybe Retro Revenge. Even Escape Dead Island and those other spinoffs seem to get more attention :v Heck, a different video I watched recently even forgot to _mention_ Retro Revenge because it wasn't included in the wiki at the time :p

@@Toby_Kat I will admit, I was wrong in my first comment. Riptide is, by all definitions, a sequel. I just don't think it deserved to be. IMO, it could have been shortened into an incredible DLC, adding John into the main game as the only one crashing into the island on a boat. Rest of the crew instead of taking the heli to the military destroyer, take a boat to the new island. Small boat crash, but keep all items and bam. Throw in a mission early on where you get kidnapped if you want to keep the "use their blood as cure" thing I much prefer it honestly, but the story is pretty much the exact same and so is the way you progress through the game. Small group saves you from beach, takes you to camp, you traverse area and go into a slightly more populated survivor camp (lighthouse in DI1, little fishing village in 2) to find more help for thing the original group needed and then help both groups, travel to city, and so on. The stories are very similar. And Dead Island 2 will/would be a great successor in replacement of Riptide because it doesn't have the OG crew, they would be the cause of the new outbreak and need someone to kill them. They will be the progression bosses and good world building pieces, essentially. Because honestly, I'm so sick of the basic ass stereotypes they all fill. This is assuming that it ever comes out of course

It takes years to create a game, not 6 weeks, so a lot of times in order to meet the expectations set by the marketing department they'd have to shelve the release date and start over. This one is an exception, but public reaction in the form of video game journalists is the main reason the game was redesigned. Don't hate the developer, hate the journalists who made a big deal about children being in the game.

when you titled this "what happened" i expected you'd explain the controversies that led to that "FaLsE aDvErTiSeMeNt" That trailer got the devs into alot of trouble, because games journalists started a major fuss about how horrifying it was that in the game you'd "have a chance to kill kids" so they were forced to rework the game to not include kids (this is actually somehing that impacted interactions. 'teddy bear girl' is an example of this. one of the characters, who is after their teddy, who is like a 25 year old woman. It is obvious she was meant to be a child, but due to the controversies, was removed. In early development they thought they could get away with just removing children zombies, but late in development they were told ALL children had to leave, thus why they "aged up" many of the characters, and thus why some characters act weird as fuck at times. Some other development 'lies" had to do with a dynamic skin system, and a belief the game would be "hardcore" in it's design. Early development blogs include a system where, once you are infected, you can't cure it, and thus will eventually die. The game's tone at the time was significantly darker, it was single player, pc only, and there were absolutely no RPG elements. Why do all those things matter? because the game was announced around seven years before it's release. The trailer led to legal trouble which delayed the game's development. this was then followed by having to restart the project due to generational switches. this THEN was followed by the "zombie boom" in which alot of zombie games had to pop up, most of which involved an emphasis on action gameplay and roleplay mechanics in one form of another. Keeping that in mind it becomes obvious that, due to the long development cycle, the controversy that blew up in it's face, and the inclusion to move it onto consoles mid development meant deep silver were wanting a return on this investment, and it needed to reach the widest audience. Again, at the same time as his is going on co-op was a trendy thing as well. (you might be guessing where this is going) The game was significantly complete when alot of these elements were added. this is why much of it ends up being somewhat awkard and shoehorned. It's why the game's systems seem to be based around one or two or three zombies and not massive hordes. it's why the RPG system seems tacked on and it's why drop in drop out co-op is a bit janky and also has very little connection to the whole thing. Since deep silver were the ones fronting it, this stuff had to be changed, or the game would have been cancelled outright. Notice as well this can actually be seen in the gameplay we have seen for dead island 2. The game emphasized the more action-heavy light-hearted aspects, compared to dead island 1, where even in the actiony game we got, they still keep a very dower tone the entire way through.

I finished dead Island years ago several times too, though I played riptide more I still remember the whole dead island 1 story, the map areas, hotel, light House, beach, the city, and the game secrets like the secret blueprints from the skull easter eggs around the map and other details, ironically I don't remember much of anything about riptide other than it was a swampy shethole with a laboratory. Really tells how much better dead island was compared to riptide imo, but loved the games either way.

Personally, I'm glad they went with Dying Light over DI2. The fluid movement and combat, immersive and interactive environment, interesting infected designs, and amazing soundtrack all ended up better than I ever imagined DI2 would've been. I understand the disappointment but I think it's better this way. At this point any new Dead Island game would just be a dumbed down Dying Light game. And if it had come out on time, the games most likely would've eventually developed into something similar to Dying Light anyway. It'd be cool to have, if only to see what the full game would've been like compared to the first game, but I'd prefer to see the devs keep letting their imaginations go wild with Dying Light.

Dead Island was the FIRST game I ever bought myself back when I was a teenager. I made so many memories on that game both by myself and playing online with others. I had replayed it an embarrassing amount of times. People joke about and talk shit about it nowadays, but that game (and riptide) will always be a fond memory. I remember seeing the Dead Island 2 trailer back in high school and being so excited I checked news on it daily. I'm now graduating college. It's sad honestly.

What Yager dropped as Alpha looked pretty decent and I would definitily played it. However, Techland did a good Job giving DS the Middlefinger and doing their own Thing. I think I got 1000h in Dying Light and you made me wanna go back rn. Techland is one of the few Developers I want to support and I buy almost all DLCs. I actually played dead island epidemic a good bit. It was surprisingly solid for how bad its premise was. What dragged it down was it was extremely grindy to unlock new characters. So while those characters were fun and unique, you never got a chance to play them without pulling out the credit card.

The only thing that was ever able to kill me was shooting the invisible grenade launcher while in a car… because it crashed the game

Dying lights virals are just BS, they literally come out of the walls even if you're nowhere around any zombie. They wanted there to be consequences for making noise I understand but that's not how you do it, look at state of decay if there isn't a zombie around you can make all the noise in the world they don't just spawn them on top of you to then be like "seeee you shouldn't make noise" SOD is more realistic in that sense if they're out of range they can't hear it dying light wants to act like a 9mm pistol is so loud every zombie in a 5 mile radius would hear it and know exactly where it came from despite it echoing off buildings.
