Dead Man's Hand - plastic gunfighters review

Hello everyone and welcome back to the channel and in this video I am going to be taking a look at the new plastic gunfighters box for Dead Man's Hand by Great Escape Games.
I am really pretty new to Dead Man's Hand and have only received my rulebook and a couple of boxes of the plastic gunfighters in the last few days. But I have been super impressed with this box that I thought I would do a quick review to show you what you get in the box, what the sprue looks like and also the first five lawmen that I have painted up.
I am really looking forward to playing Dead Man's Hand as the Wild West is not an era that I have really gamed or painted so this is all very to me! But I am confident that there will be lots more Dead Man's Hand content coming to the channel.

That's awesome, cheers Joe! I've said it before but kitbashing and conversions is definitely one of my favourite parts of the hobby. Whether it's Bolt Action, Dead Man's Hand or Turnip28, I really like the idea of creating models, units and whole armies that are unique and individual to me. It's a great inspiration and keeps me motivated to keep trying new things 🙂

I had never considered it until James asked me to see if I could do something with the greatcoat body. I was really surprised at just how well the two sets scaled. I'll definitely be making more 😀

Hey Dylan, they are really lovely figures to build and paint. DMH has been around a while but I'm only just getting into it. To see how the game plays I'd recommend checking out my buddy Martin's channel 7th Son and also Travis at Tabletop CP 😊

Great review of some great looking placcies! Especially like the 'chunky' 28mm style which will mix well with the extensive metal Wild West ranges by Artizan and the like. Loved the Bolt Action/Winter German kit-bash, easily painted to represent a blue union or grey rebel 'deserter's' uniform coat. (I'd carve/file off the ammo-pouches and maybe even add ''Greenstuff' epaulettes for extra detail?) Also, if gaming the later Wild West period, possible to add Colt 1911 automatic pistols and even Browning Automatic Rifles from BA USA kits for a 'Wild Bunch' type posse. Great an informative video as always, La! xx SF

Cheers Steve! They are a great scale and do work really well with the Bolt Action plastics. That in itself is going to be really pretty interesting for future kitbashing projects. I have some Artizan cowboys and bandito figures and they scale up well with these GEG plastics. Definitely a lot of options there and has really made me want to replay Red Dead Redemption again 😁

Cheers Drew! What I like about the kitbashing is that it seems like they are from the same kit. They scale really well with the Bolt Action kits. I'm definitely planning on using other bits and pieces on building future gangs. Definitely a lack of codpieces, this is true 😁

I just ordered a box of these in the hopes that I can kitbash with Stargrave or other 28mm kits to make crews and gangs for Stargrave and Five Parsecs from Home. I hadn't considered adding in Bolt Action bits! But I've of course got a TON of leftover bits from three armies there. I had wanted to use Wild West Exodus posses (Wayward Eight and Deadly Seven) but after getting them, I discovered that they are basically 1/48 scale!

I think a few other people have said they are going to use these with Stargrave. Having worked with two of these their versatility is excellent. I've used a few of the arms from the set on Bolt Action projects and they scale really well. Aye, I've painted up two posses for Wild West Exodus and they are a lot bigger than 28mm figures, I was surprised at just how big they are! 😄

Those models are beautiful, so detailed, and so many options, nice use of the olive drab, i like how the crotch of the pants is different color, from rideing, very good painting.

Lawman’s posse looks ready to ride. This seems like a perfect way to start the period with all the options in one box, but I should have expected some extra kit bashing - it worked well on these

Given the small number of figures needed for each gang a couple of boxes of these will be more than enough. I'm hoping to get three different gangs from these. I really couldn't resist a bit of kitbashing on these 😁

Great inspiration, Ste, as always! I'm going to paint up the starter set gangs first then use this set ti fill in gaps in my roster .....looks like shotguns are on the menu, boys!

Thanks Tony, I had a lot of fun painting these and they were really pretty quick to paint too, unlike my usual Bolt Action stuff there was no equipment or anything like that. I'm really looking forward to adding more and then getting around to getting some buildings and other Wild West related bits and pieces 😁

Great review! Do you know by any chance if they plan on making more plastic miniature sets? I started collecting the miniatures for using them in the deadlands pen and paper and I love their different gang boxes. However metal miniatures tend to get bent or damaged during transport and also have less customization. Also a tip if you want to create markers for ingame use. I clipped of the smaller bases at the feet and glued on weapons, dynamite or just the marshall stars to mark items or clues.

Cheers buddy! Great timing as a new plastic Gunfighter box is coming out soon, I think it's towards the end of April. Great Escape Games have sent me a sprue that I'm just waiting to arrive. I'm going to do a quick review video once it arrives and I have built and painted some of the miniatures. The first plastic Gunfighters box was definitely my favourite plastic kit of last year 🙂👍

That's awesome thank you and massive apologies for the delay in replying! I've had some issues with alerts. I don't really tend to make painting videos as I have some really bad painting habits! With these chaps it was just a case of applying the basic colours and hitting them with an Agrax Earthshade wash before adding the highlights. But it is a tremendous kit with some fantastic bits and pieces to make some really individual looking figures. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment and apologies for the long response time 😀👍

I would definitely recommend picking this up, it's still great set to work on with excellent scope for making some really unique looking gangs. Now that I know they work with Bolt Action figures I'll definitely be kitbashing a lot more of these 😁

Having read through the rules and watched quite a few batreps, it is definitely a fast paced game with an emphasis on shoot outs and gunfights rather than extensive list building and masses of rules. With each gang between 5-7 figures it shouldn't take any time at all to get quite a few gangs built 😀

So using Bolt Action bodies along with the spare heads and arms in the box, you can make more than ten per box.

Absolutely yes. Just using the box by itself allows you to build 10 figures but using the winter German greatcoat bodies will certainly increase that with all the spare bits and pieces you get on the sprue ☺

Definitely this! I painted quite a few miniatures last year and this was certainly the stand out plastic kit for me. Wonderful sculpts absolutely full of character, scores of different combinations and so much packed onto the sprues. A wonderful kit all round 😀

Having used that Bolt Acton German body to kitbash my gunslinger, I can definitely say they are the same height and they scale really pretty well. That would be a pretty awesome and unique looking partisan force 😀
