The Dead Space remake is great, however I don't get the Nicole redesign. I just think it was a little odd to redesign her to wear a black trenchcoat and sunglasses. I also don't know why she's the new final boss and uses the zapping system to back flip over Issac's shots.

@@kenotacos The weapons are industrial grade, they ARE disgustingly powerful and that is clear since the original. You don't kill enemies, you destroy them until there is nothing left to move. I find it a little disappointing, because the node doors were basically always worth it. You'd usually find credits/circuit boards or even a straight up replacement node in them that would be equivalent of a node, plus ammo and health. With the security rooms (the optional ones that are just item rooms) they're often full of shit. Really disappointing to take the effort to loop back to a level 3 door to find a whopping 3 lockers to open with 100 credits each in them.

The endgame is that they remake 3 into a better full single player experience of course but what I want is what Dead Space 4 would have been which was a huge expanded version of the Lost Flotilla section of Dead Space 3 aka the best part about DS3. In this scrapped DS4 you go from derelict ship to derelict ship (not just mining or government ships but commerical, personal transportational, and a real variety of ship types etc) fighting necromorphs and the general plot of the game is that you're coming ship to ship getting parts to rebuild a planet cracker to fight brethren moons. The idea of going ship to ship, each there own Ishimura (some ships smaller and some bigger but as unique as the Ishimura is what I mean) sounds awesome. They could play so much with that variety of location in terms of mechanics and environmental storytelling.

The idea for those content warnings is that the game is known for dismembering monsters. Suicide probably isn't at the forefront of someone's mind when they play it and that can trigger a trauma response. The way these things work is that you don't have an aversion to every type of violence, but more specific triggers. Like in a slasher you expect there to be sex involved, but no so much in ghost horror things like the Ring. It's the act itself not the fact that you can see blood.

I agree with others in the comments that there can be a _drastic_ difference between blasting necromorphs which are obviously evil monster stereotypes, and a human character killing themselves. The context matters way more than how many gibs there are, particularly when PTSD can take very specific forms/have very specific triggers. Though I do agree with Pat that any intended effect of the visual censor bar is lessened if the audio is exactly the same. Still. It's easy to do, it's an optional setting that doesn't affect gameplay if you don't turn it on, so I think it's good it was included. It might help some, so why not include it.

My guesses as to the purposes of the CW features are: 1. The warnings are mainly in place for the benefit of anyone watching streams/LPs of the game. Or they'll let the people playing who have specific triggers turn the content filter on/off before certain scenes. 2. The content filter is applied to scenes where still-alive humans are getting done in, because people generally respond differently to seeing humans go through something horrible than when mindless, drooling monsters go through something horrible. I guess the ones that'll fall through the cracks of this accessibility system are the ones that *are* bothered by intense gore regardless of the subject that has violence inflicted upon them.

Milf Manor is disgusting and that particular decision feels like it was on purpose, if both of them were aged down, that would be one thing. But Nicole looks like she could be isaac's mom, and Isaac looks like a Diet Zuckerberg. The fact his face is the voice actors makes me respect him less, especially with how many times they take off the helmet for no reason. AND THE HELMET, that was the highlight of the OG series, seeing it pop up from out of the suit to incase his head was the best part, they fact the designers couldn't get that right while making it rounded off is a sin in my eyes.

the force gun is not useless in base, but it is so unreasonably hard to understand, that it took 8 playthroughs across 2 games and an instruction video (not in that order) before i understood how the force gun does damage. it scales damage with the enemies movement speed. so a basic necromorph that is stationary will take 6 unupgraded shots to kill. however, if the enemy is moving fast enough it will always kill them in one shot (always). in dead space 2 the elevator before you get the force gun which goes up VERY fast, and spawn a bunch of elite enemies that attack you through the windows. in NG+ you can just 1 shot them with an unupgraded force gun. if you want to use it on basic necros, you actually need to shoot them before they jump to attack you. they slow down a lot when the pounce (doesnt seem like it at first until you start looking for it). still crap at using it somehow... but i can see how it could be good (and some people even swear by it)

I think the sensitive content warning thing would make more sense if you could select the specific content type, as somebody can handle gore, but they could be horribly messed up by something in their past that some scenes can end up triggering. Also the sensitive content thing seems to just straight up remove the peeling system according to what I've read, so they did consider that.

Even in that hypothetical the censor doesn’t remove nearly enough context for a seventeen year old with a functioning IQ to realize what’s happening. So what’s the point? I mean, I get it. The human brain is really weird and arbitrary about what it can and cannot handle. Some people just cannot deal with this level of extreme violence, others can so long as it isn't to children, others still might be totally desensitized to human on human violence, but killing a dog comes off different to them. And even then, there are different kinds of violence and different contexts for them, and a person can just be able to deal with some and not others. Although, if you are playing Dead Space, a content warning, like, everytime you boot up the game be sufficient enough to mentally prepare for it. It really doesn't take long to figure out just what kind of game it is and it's pretty hard to forget.

So i fully understand the content warning system. Violence isnt just violence. Necromorphs are humanoid monsters, but theyre monsters. In the almost decade since the first game, if you've actually had someone commit suicide it can be highly upsetting especially now that the visuals are coming out of the uncanny valley in visual fidelity. For the most part, i think the content warning is for streamers especially low level ones because it would really suck if you go to stream the game and your buddy goes "Hey, jimmy's streaming that game he likes I should watch him" and Jimmy never told them about the medical murder suicide scene specifically because that person had a family die from medical malpractice.

What I always loved about the Dead Space franchise is that they didn't shy away from demonstrating how utterly pathetic the structural integrity of flesh was when it was subjected to the kinds of forces and mechanics of an industrial environment. You hear people describe the human skull has having the strength of a melon, but you don't truly understand what that means until you take force to it the wrong way. That the developers decided to shift the flesh in the remake from a simple erector-set of combined parts and broke it down into layers within the parts themselves seems like a master stroke of improvement.

I understand some light confusion about something like a blur filter or warning in something so violent. But keep in mind people who enjoy violent content still have mental anguish or very specific trauma-related instances tied to things like suicide or self-harm. It's totally reasonable that someone who thinks degloving a necromorph is super badass and loves Dead Space might I have to get up or look away from a suicide if they're lucky enough to see it coming, often times they don't. Frankly I think these systems are great. Anyone that's got a serious problem with them is just one of those assholes that has a problem with anything that helps other people.

Content warnings on survival horror games featuring a severed hand on the box art is like speaking in tongues at church. You're doing it to edify yourself. Also, the Playstation survival horror games were made in an era where violent games getting banned using state power was a legitimate fear--and the "violence and gore" warnings were trying to mitigate that. Now they're just hoping someone on Twitter will take a screenshot and talk about how "heckin' wholesome big chungus 100" it is that EA had their mental health in mind.
