A new Dead Space is in development? But do you know what - the original is still a brilliant game and holds up very well indeed today. John Linneman, Alex Battaglia and Audi Sorlie revisit the game, playing it on Xbox 360 and a period appropriate gaming PC with an Intel Q6600 quad-core processor paired with the clasic Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT.

@CYB3R2K30 From a technical perspective, maybe. I liked Dead Space better in an overall sense. All aspects of design and concept were so consistent and well directed. Everything was considered - the curated lighting, the rusty industrial ship design and accompanying atmosphere, the heavy and deliberate pacing and movement. It's kind of the whole Alien vs Aliens movie thing. There's no real wrong answer.

I was crashing at a buddy's house when DS was still fairly new. We worked different hours. So, when he was gone I'd play (and vice versa). He also had his elderly mother living w/him. But, she digged horror. So, she enjoyed watching us play and really getting into the jump scares. We'd pass the controller around even inviting her to play (which she always declined :). I can still hear her saying "don't go in there!", "shoot it's legs off!", and "It's gonna cut off your head!"😆

It *IS* survival horror, let's not get too cute with the naming of nonsencial sub genres there lads. Certainly took the genre into the next generation and clearly inspired the RE2 remake easily, very interesting as RE was the IP that inspired Dead Space. An intriguing loop of inspiration. For those who want to know more about the development of this excellent survival horror title straight from the horse's mouth so to speak watch the Ars Technica interview with the creator Glen Schofield and Neo Gamer the making of Dead Space. Cheers.

Indeed, the Ars Technica "War Stories" interview of Glen Schofield is super interesting and speaks volumes to what good design can mean to a videogame, no matter how old it may be. Yet since Dead Space was on that cusp of what tech improvements could bring, it melds together tech capabilities with game design, artistic direction and atmosphere, it's truly memorable to be as a game set in space with horror elements - a realization of what movies like Alien, Aliens, Event Horizon represent into the video game form. IMHO truly a milestone in videogames.

Similar to a GPU control panel override on PC, *Microsoft is able to remove frame-rate caps* at the DirectX API layer while at the same time, the firm can enforce v-sync and engage other enhancements, such as enforced 16x anisotropic filtering. The end result is an increase to frame-rate that allows 30fps games to run at 60fps, or 60fps titles to hit 120fps. In rare cases, FPS Boost can see a game that used to run at 30fps on Xbox One hit 120fps on Series X - as we see with Avalanche's Mad Max and select Lego titles in the latest update."

I generally agree but it depends how you define a coat of paint Remaster is a term taken from the music industry and so is mastering for that matter. In the game world, if you change assets, engines, or drastically change the games visual makeup, you're going way beyond what a remaster is. Hence why saints row 3 remastered is a total lie. @@HugoStiglitz88 Saints Row 3 remastered still is using most of the same game code. Was never really remade from the ground up. They just added new lighting, graphical techniques, textures and rebuild some of the character models of the main cast. But the map was still the same (models of small objects and buildings being a good example), the audio was still the same (albiet not compressed anymore), etc. The fact tht a good portion of the mods for the original SR3 still works in the remaster is a definite sign tht it is one. Bc if it was a true remake, then none of the mods from the original wuld work on it since its a different code base. So the game engine was still pretty much the same.

@@juliet4093 Just take your reply and apply it to your favorite movie from the past 15 years or so, and you'll see my point. Videogames are a media that tends to be forgotten very quickly due to it's rely on constantly evolving hardware. Yet they're a form of media, they're cultural expressions and they deserve to be experienced in it's originally intended form by current an future generations. So, if this remake gets to be a succes, then most people will forget the original and newcomers likely won't ever experience it. If it fails, well, knowing the way EA handle it's IPs, for sure they'll bury the franchise and 4 or 5 years from now you won't have a clean and direct way to play it. They said it in the video, the game holds up very well. You could just improve the lighting, the textures, update the physics and some animations, some tweak here and there and the game will be enjoyable at it's 100% in 4k 60fps on current hardware.
