Yes I agree this is a very nice pit and I also really like the APEX! The APEX is my 2022 pellet grill of the year because it fits so many people that want to do a little smoking but still want to be able to just lite up the gas grill. But I sooooooooo wish the APEX had the smoke box too!! I told them that has to be something they add in the APEX Gen 2!!! Thanks for watching and glad you are loving that Pro!!

Awesome review Ricer. I have the 36" Woodwind (non-Pro) and use a smoke tube since otherwise, meats don't get any smoke flavor. Glad Campchef added that smoke box. You cracked me up with the installation of the sidekick since it took me an hour to realize there wasn't a way to attach the side brackets to the grill.
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ Жыл бұрын
Hahahah ya we got both on the Pro but then tried to hang the grease pail and I was like wth there isn'y any other way to attach the sidekick!!! The Pro with that smoke box does add a tad more smoke flavor, not like my offset but still boosts it up especially if you use some oak chunks with a little charcoal!! Thanks for watching brother!!

Very much liked this review. Been doing lots of research on pellet grills. Because I have an offset and a barrel smoker, I was looking for something just like this in a pellet grill, one that I can still get smoke flavor out of my cooks with the convenience of a set it and forget it. I know this grill won’t last me forever but I’m okay with that.

As an owner of the 36" my only complaint is they use the same hopper and auger set up as the 24" I understand why, and it doesn't seem like a big deal initially. But the fire pot then is 6 inches from center and that's enough to notice a 10-18 degree temp swing from one side to the other of your pit.
@markowen7129
@markowen7129 Жыл бұрын
@Jace Higgs I completely understand. My first pit was the pitboss tailgater model and it was the same way. A very short auger that only came about a quarter of the way into the barrel. But I can say that controller ran MUCH better than the PID in my pitboss 1600 pro and my pitboss 1100 pro runs MUCH better than the PID controller.

Great review Ricer. Interesting design. With the help of the many accessories this pretty much becomes a all in one cooker. Very important for those who have limited floor space in their cooking area. But I agree with what you kept coming back to, the smoke box. That little gem I believe means you can actually call this pellet a smoker. Now though about those accessories. I've noticed over the years when someone makes a product that you can add accessories to the main unit ( like years ago when Troybuilt added accessories like generators, woodchipers,etc. to be attached to the tiller ) the accessories cost as much as a stand alone product. Thereby not making any reason to go that route. I'm wondering just how closely this applies here as far as the ability to be reasonable on overall value. This does not take away from them adding that smoke box. In fact I wonder if other manufacturers will in some way follow Camp Chefs lead on this design. I'm curious about what you're going to be cooking for this year's Supper Bowl? Hmmm, could it be Kansas city bbq sauce on chicken? 😂🤣😅😆😁 🏈🐓🍻👍 Have a great day. 🌤😀🔥

@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ Жыл бұрын
This is the closest to the LSG but hands down the LSG is still my best better grill I have ever ran to date. The LSG is a smoker that gets dang close to my offset flavor! Still running strong and zero issues with it other than I had to change out the felt gasket but I had a burr on the lid that cause that. So I used a dremel and filed it down. It still catches a tad but it is not tearing off. So with all that said my LSG will be a pit that my boys will have to fight over when I take a dirt nap but this Camp Chef will be made into recycled beer cans someday. Thanks for watching!

Meh----once you get a steel pit you just have to deal with the paint breaking down in time. But after you had it for a while you can add a little food safe mineral oil to it. Plus you will need some touch up paint but trust me this pit is a war machine!!! If you are keeping it outside get something to cover it up to keep the snow off it and in the summer keep the sun from beating on it! My LSG Santa Maria sit outside all year long and that pit is doing just fine but it is covered up with a tarp when I am not using it!

Honestly they are probably about the same. Most pellet grills all cook about the same but I always look at the features and lately the controller ease of use is also something I look at. River, I’m curious if yours leaks smoke from the ash bucket area during start up? My original woodwind did not. My new woodwind pro does. How about yours?
@DeadBrokeBBQ
@DeadBrokeBBQ Жыл бұрын
Ya this little pit leaks all over the bottom during the start up and a little during the actual cook around the smokebox and a tad through the grease port. But the more I have ran it the more it has kind of sealed up but during that start up you really need to make sure the lid is open because that much smoke could combust!! That is why I put that clip of all the smoke in the beginning because it certainly smolders a lot!! Thanks for watching Jabin!!!

Realize this video is 4 months old. I read a review about the hopper and some complaints about it. That the window telling you how full it is is misleading because of the design it feeds from the center. Also that the empty function isn't 100% and that they had to use a dowel to help because of the grate. Are this concerns of yours? Thanks in advance.

Both are great pits. But with the Sidekick I would lean towards the Woodwind. I love the griddle and eventually I will be doing the APEX review here on my channel. I did that review for Smoked BBQ Source and that should be posting soon. My favorite pellet grill I tested in 2022 was the APEX because of the gas option. But that is an expensive pit but honestly a one man show that I call Do All!!!! The Elite is still my 2022 box store pellet grill of the year though and I will be excited to see the Elite Gen 2 when it comes out!! As far as flavor you might get a tad more smoke with the smoke box on the Woodwind. Hope this helps!
